Chapter 51
Hei Jing watched the luxury car drive away, then turned to glance at the man sitting in the back seat, unwilling to show his face, Lu Fengfeng. “What should we do about this kid?”
Their people had already gotten out of the car, and the vehicles squeezed between the wall and their car were surrounded, making it impossible for anyone inside to get out.
Lu Fengfeng’s eyes, as dark as a starless night, looked at the man in the car, his gaze cold and distant. His tone was equally indifferent: “Once we get what we want, we pull out. It’s not the time to move against him yet.”
It was that man again. Even with someone watching, he had almost caused trouble for her. Lu Fengfeng felt a slight fear in her heart.
Hei Jing looked up at the rearview mirror, observing Lu Fengfeng’s expression through it. “Alright, I’ll leave two people to handle the aftermath. But I’m a bit surprised. I thought after almost losing her, you would act without thinking. Or are you treating her differently because it’s just more convenient to turn down other women?”
Lu Fengfeng lowered her gaze, the darkness in her eyes swirling. “Those who owe her must repay. I just don’t like acting impulsively. Since we’re doing this, we’ll find the right opportunity and wipe everything out.”
“Heh, not acting impulsively? When you heard someone was going to deal with her, you immediately rushed over and pinned the person to the roadside?” Hei Jing couldn’t help but laugh in frustration.
“It won’t happen again,” Lu Fengfeng said, her expression resolute as she stared ahead.
By the time the traffic police arrived, Lu Fengfeng and Hei Jing had already left. Siyue and the people Hei Jing had left behind were taken away, and the incident was handled as a traffic accident.

After Uncle Zheng sent Tang Minrou and Yan Ning back home, he called Yan Zhengjun and then hurriedly left.
Tang Minrou’s face was pale, clearly still shaken, but after a moment, she recovered. She reached out to gently touch Yan Ning’s head, speaking in a soothing tone: “Ningning, don’t be afraid. If anything happens, your dad and Uncle Zheng will handle it.”
Yan Ning glanced at her without surprise or any emotion of being spoiled. She obediently responded, “Alright, I understand, Mom. If there’s nothing else, I’ll go upstairs.”
She returned to her room, changed into loose pajamas, took a shower, and came out of the bathroom just as her phone buzzed.
Walking over to the bed, she picked it up. There was a new message from Lu Fengfeng.
【Why didn’t you come to school today? Did something happen?】
Yan Ning thought for a moment.
【Nothing serious. My little sister at home got sick and was hospitalized, so I went to visit her.】
She didn’t need to explain in such detail, but after some consideration, she didn’t hide anything from him.
Lu Fengfeng had just finished showering as well, his hair still dripping wet.
He was drying his hair with a towel when he received her reply and blinked in surprise.
【Just got home?】
【Are you tired?】
Yan Ning looked at the two short messages, only six words in total.
Suddenly, her heart softened. The corners of her mouth curved upward, and she didn’t even notice that a smile had spread across her face.
【Mm, just returned to my room. I just went to check on her and got a check-up while I was at it.】
【Check-up? Are you not feeling well?】
The reply came almost immediately.
Yan Ning kicked off her shoes, pulled the blanket over herself, and settled into bed, propping herself up with a pillow behind her.
After reading the message, she paused for a few seconds to think.
【I’m not unwell. Mom just said I should get a check-up so she’d feel reassured.】
When Lu Fengfeng saw her reply, the tension in his heart eased slightly, but the next second, he furrowed his brows.
Why did Yan Ning’s mother suddenly want her to get a check-up?
There was something about it that felt off, but he didn’t dwell on it at the moment.
【How were the results of the check-up?】
【No issues.】
【Mm, that’s good. By the way, do you want to have lunch together tomorrow?】
He pressed send, his gaze fixed on the phone screen, his heartbeat picking up slightly.
【Sure.】
Just two simple words, yet he could imagine her expression as she typed them—eyes slightly squinted, her expression gentle.
He didn’t dare to imagine more and quickly typed a reply.
【You don’t need to get up early or prepare anything. Just come to school like usual after you wake up.】
Was he planning to personally prepare a lunch box?
He still had that deep wound on his hand. Although, given his recovery ability, it was likely already healed.
But he didn’t know that she already knew his identity. Wouldn’t it be better to ask her about it now?
Yan Ning felt inexplicably guilty.
【Are you going to cook? Otherwise, we can go to the cafeteria. With your hand injury, you shouldn’t exert yourself.】
Lu Fengfeng raised his arm. The wound from that night had already healed, and there wasn’t even a scar left.
But he would still wrap it in a bandage tomorrow just for show.
Her words still made him very happy.
【Don’t worry, I’m not cooking. I’ve just ordered a really good lunch box from a place I like. I wanted to let you try it too.】
Yan Ning felt relieved, then yawned, feeling suddenly sleepy.
【Okay, see you tomorrow. I’m a little tired, good night.】
【Good night.】
After waiting a few minutes and not receiving another reply, Lu Fengfeng guessed she had probably already fallen asleep.
He exited the chat page and called Hei Jing.
“What’s up?” Hei Jing’s side sounded noisy.
Lu Fengfeng could tell he was out, so he directly said, “Help me prepare some things for tomorrow morning. It needs to be fresh.”
“What things?”
Lu Fengfeng listed a few ingredients.
“Bro, what are you up to? Don’t tell me you’re planning to turn into the little snail girl and cook for your Ningning? Trying to win her heart by first winning her stomach?”
“None of your business. Deliver it to my apartment at five o’clock tomorrow morning.”
He hung up the phone. Hei Jing was left listening to the beeping sound of an empty line, speechless.
“Having a woman, but no humanity. So heartless.”
Yan Wan stood by the window, and when she saw Yan Ning, fully dressed, getting out of the car, a strong hatred burst in her eyes.
Qiao Siyue actually messed up.
Among all her pieces, Qiao Siyue was the only one who had never disappointed her.
But he had failed twice. The first time could be blamed on an unexpected incident and lack of preparation.
But what was the reason this time?
She picked up her phone and called him to demand an explanation. The phone rang with the message “The other party is on another call.”
Yan Wan forced herself to suppress the urge to run next door and confront Yan Ning, patiently waiting a few minutes before calling again. This time, the call was answered.
Qiao Siyue’s pleasant voice came through: “Baby, what’s wrong?”
Yan Wan suppressed her anger and spoke in a sweet, honeyed voice: “Brother Siyue, where are you now? Nothing happened, right?”
“What could happen to me? But, baby, it makes me happy that you’re so concerned about me.” Qiao Siyue had just come out of the police station and was walking alone on the street. The streetlights illuminated his face, casting a faint, twisted smile.
Yan Wan sat at the desk, her fingers gripping the edge of the table. She spoke softly: “As long as you’re fine, I can rest easy.”
“Don’t worry, baby. As long as it’s something you want, Siyue will get it for you. It was just a small accident this time. Give it a couple of days, and her good days will be over.”
Yan Wan’s heart lifted. Qiao Siyue wouldn’t let her down after all. Her voice softened even more: “Brother Siyue, you’re the best to me. You’re the only one I can rely on.”
Through the phone came his gentle, seductive voice: “Silly girl, if I don’t treat you well, who will I treat well?”
After finishing the call with Qiao Siyue, Yan Wan’s mood gradually calmed.
As long as she had Qiao Siyue, she didn’t need to do anything.
—
On the other side of the second floor was the master bedroom, where Yan Zhengjun and Tang Minrou’s room was located.
Yan Zhengjun hadn’t come home for a long time. After Tang Minrou finished washing up, she sat down at the vanity, pulling out a chair. The table was covered with various luxurious skincare products.
She picked up a bottle, twisted off the cap, and was about to apply it to her face when her phone rang. Seeing the caller, a trace of impatience appeared on her calm face. She let the phone ring for a while before answering.
“Hello, Sister Qing. It’s so late, is something wrong?”
On the other end of the phone, Zhang Qing’s face was grim. Her tone remained controlled but clearly unfriendly: “Minrou, you’re really a busy person. It’s one thing to be busy on a regular day, but something as big as this happens, and you didn’t even inform us?”
Tang Minrou felt a sudden sense of unease: “Sister Qing, what are you talking about? I don’t quite understand.”
Zhang Qing’s tone grew more aggressive: “The matter of your biological daughter being found. If I hadn’t heard that she appeared at the Tang family’s banquet, I wouldn’t have known at all. Now that she’s back, originally, Yan Wan was supposed to be engaged to our Siyue in her own right. Since she’s back, you should at least let us meet her.” Zhang Qing’s tone was pressing, leaving out the fact that she had personally attended the banquet and omitted the events involving Qiao Siyue from a few days ago.
She dared to speak like this because she understood Tang Minrou well.
The person Tang Minrou cared about most was always Yan Zhengjun. Everyone else in her eyes could be used as a tool, especially that daughter who had been mistakenly swapped and was only now found after many years.
Zhang Qing was sure that Tang Minrou didn’t yet know that the situation between her biological and adopted daughters had reached the point of irreconcilable conflict.
Upon hearing this, Tang Minrou furrowed her brow tightly, and her dislike for Yan Ning deepened: “I don’t understand what you mean. Isn’t Wanwan and Siyue doing well? Why are we suddenly talking about Ningning?”
“So, it’s fine if Yan Ning didn’t come back, but now that she has, you want to marry the imposter into our family? Isn’t that a little unreasonable? Even if in the end, it’s still Yan Wan who marries into our family, Yan Ning should at least come out and let everyone see her.”
What Zhang Qing meant was that they needed to choose between Yan Ning and Yan Wan.
The expression on Tang Minrou’s face could only be described as fierce, but her voice was still soft and sweet: “Sister Qing, we also want Ningning to come out and interact more. It’s just that recently, her health hasn’t been very good. How about we wait until she’s better, and then set up a time to have tea together?”
“What time? Give me a firm answer. And you’re so busy, there’s no need for you to specifically accompany her. Let Yan Wan take her out, that works just as well.”
Tang Minrou thought for a moment: “She’s quite sick, and it might take some time for her to get better. I think perhaps Saturday, two o’clock in the afternoon, how does that sound?”
“Alright, let Yan Wan bring her over then.”
—
The next day.
Lu Fengfeng woke up early and spent two hours in the kitchen. He packed a three-tier lunch box and headed to school.
But he didn’t meet Yan Ning—she had taken sick leave.
—
Liuhuang Star.
A little penguin was running deep into the forest, holding a black box in its tiny hand, shouting as it ran: “Boss, boss, Sese and Tutu just sent a message back from Blue Star. They said they found her!”
