“Good.” Wang Jinhe nodded, instructing Su Yu to contact Su Jiu.
Five days later, Su Jiu received a message from Su Yu. As he read the contents of the letter, a smile appeared on his face. This was indeed his younger brother knowing that there was something good and thinking of him.
Putting away the letter, Su Jiu went to find the Emperor. When he arrived, Xie Chen had just come out of the imperial study.
Seeing Su Jiu, Xie Chen snorted and left without a word.
Su Jiu narrowed his eyes. What could make Xie Chen so angry? Probably something related to Xie Yang?
The people outside the imperial study, upon seeing Su Jiu, quickly let him in. The Emperor had said that whenever Su Jiu came, he should be allowed in.
“See the Emperor.”
“Rise, why do you have time to come to me today?” the Emperor asked with some curiosity.
“Xiao Yu sent a letter to me. The strong liquor over there is ready. I’m here to ask if Your Majesty would like some. One hundred taels per catty.” Su Jiu looked at the Emperor and inquired.
“Yes, buy a hundred barrels and bring them back. The New Year is approaching, and we can use them then.” After considering for a moment, the Emperor directly instructed Su Jiu to buy a hundred barrels.
“Understood.”
“By the way, Xie Chen was here just now. You should have encountered him on your way here, right? As you guessed, he came to request that I grant a marriage between Su Yu and Xie Yang.” The Emperor looked at Su Jiu and asked.
Although Su Jiu had already guessed the purpose of Xie Chen’s visit when he saw him, he didn’t expect him to actually bring it up.
“I saw it, but his expression didn’t look very good. It seems he’s been wronged here in Your Majesty’s presence.” Su Jiu said thoughtfully.
This Xie Chen lost face here. Ling Gui would be coming later.
The Emperor’s eyes showed impatience, and he coldly snorted, saying, “What I have decided doesn’t need her objections.”
“Your Majesty, be cautious. After all, there is still Ling Gui to consider.” Su Jiu said with concern.
Over the years, Ling Gui had become quite arrogant, relying on giving birth to the legitimate eldest son. She had used her status to carry out various actions, known to the Emperor, though not publicly disclosed.
The Emperor rubbed his temples, displaying impatience. “Indeed, quite displeasing.”
“How much longer will Your Majesty tolerate Ling Gui’s actions?” Once or twice is enough, isn’t it?
The Emperor shook his head lightly. “It’s not yet the time to take action. They haven’t made significant mistakes. If we act now, the courtiers will have something to say. After all, they are elders of two dynasties.”
“That may be true, but recently, they have become more audacious. There are already thoughts of having Your Majesty name a crown prince.” Su Jiu expressed his concern.
As long as a crown prince is not named, the Xie family won’t be at ease, especially when the Empress hasn’t been seen for several months. Continuing like this might lead to suspicion.
What Su Jiu thought of, the Emperor naturally thought of as well. He furrowed his brows and said with some concern, “I will have someone handle this matter. You don’t need to worry. As for the Empress, she is due to give birth in a month. During this time, no one must know.”
He would inform everyone after the child was born.
They want him to name a crown prince, right? As long as the Empress gives birth to a son, he would name him the crown prince on that day.
Looking at the Emperor’s malicious expression, Su Jiu knew that he was going to scheme again.
“By the way, tell that boy, Su Yu, that his family’s situation probably won’t stay hidden much longer.” The Emperor looked at Su Jiu and said.
“That’s not a problem. Except for those two, everyone in our family knows. Now, everyone at home is waiting for the return of the young master of the next generation. Even if they find out, it doesn’t matter. Besides… Xiao He’s father is not someone easy to provoke.” Su Jiu said with a half-smile.
The Emperor raised an eyebrow, looking at Su Jiu. “Oh? They’re not just simple villagers?”
“Does Your Majesty know Yu Qingfeng?”
Yue Qingfeng? That name…
The Emperor looked at Su Jiu with sharp eyes. “Are you suggesting that Wang Jinhe’s father is Yu Qingfeng?”
“How is that possible? Wasn’t he missing over twenty years ago?”
“Yes, it’s Yu Qingfeng.” Su Jiu explained the situation of the Yue family to the Emperor.
After listening, the Emperor sneered and sarcastically said, “The Yu family deserves it. If they hadn’t suppressed the line of Yu Bailin, the Yu family would have thrived instead of ending up like this.”
The Emperor did know about the Yu family. Yu Bailin, back when he was the young master of the Yu family, had led efforts to assist the people during a national disaster, contributing money and food when the national treasury was empty.
Now, mentioning the name Yu Bailin, the older generation still remembered him.
He remembered that his father had wanted to reward Yu Bailin at that time, but Yu Bailin hadn’t asked for anything.
Now that his granddaughter had helped them so much, the Emperor was naturally pleased. “So, it’s his granddaughter. No wonder. Su Jiu, tell Su Yu that as long as I’m here, no one would be allowed to interfere with his marriage.”
“Yes.” Su Jiu was happy for Su Yu. With this assurance, whatever Yang Shanshan and the others wanted to do wouldn’t matter.
“Emperor, I’ll go back and inform Xiao Yu about the situation here.”
“Go ahead.”
Su Jiu returned home and saw Xie Yang coming out of the house, his eyes slightly cold.
Xie Yang stopped when he saw Su Jiu. “Do you think hiding that woman will be effective? Aunt and the others already know. I want to see how you’ll handle this.”
“Miss Xie, even if they know about it, it doesn’t matter because you’re not worthy.” Su Jiu looked at the person at the door and coldly said, “In the future, when Miss Xie come over, don’t let her in. A high and mighty young lady like her is beyond our family’s reach.”
“Yes, Young Master.”
Xie Yang’s expression soured, and she looked at Su Jiu. “Do you think your words carry any weight?”
“If what Xiao Jiu says doesn’t count, does what I say count?”
Xie Yang and Su Jiu both turned to look at Su Long, who had just gotten off the carriage.
“Is the head of the Su family trying to cut off all ties with the Xie family?” Xie Yang asked Su Long bluntly, her expression unpleasant.
Su Long chuckled softly, “Xie Yang, in what capacity are you speaking to me?”
“I…”
“You and Xiao Yu are impossible, and we won’t agree. Even if Yang Shanshan and the others like you, without my father’s approval, you can’t enter this family. The way you are now is just bringing disgrace upon yourself.” Su Long looked at Xie Yang calmly. “Seeing Xiao Yu should make it clear to you. With our family’s ancestral principles, there’s nothing you can achieve. If Su Qin and the others dare to violate the ancestral principles, they’ll face expulsion from the family.”
Xie Yang looked at Su Long in disbelief, her eyes filled with anger and unwillingness. “She’s just a girl from a farming family. Why right does she have?”
“Just because she risked everything to give birth to Xiao Yu’s child, just because she raised the child well despite the gossip, and just because Xiao Yu likes her and wants to spend his life with her.”
