Even when Yao Yao was at her sickest, it wasn’t as severe as this. She had spat up a lot of blood on the snowy white hospital bed, nearly making Mom almost faint in tears and Dad age ten years in an instant.
And now, seeing Chong Yan’s red-stained nostrils twitching, she somehow understood their feelings.
But Chong Yan clenched his fist.
Why not escape? Why?
That’s when—
Yao Yao couldn’t bear it any longer. “Why?” she exclaimed and quickly leaned down, grabbing him. “Why are you still coughing up blood with that hand injury? Is it that severe?”
Her little mischief-maker was too fragile. A three-centimeter wound was enough to be lethal.
The myriad ice blades behind Chong Yan suddenly paused.
Yao Yao was deeply distressed, sobbing, “Is there anywhere else that hurts? Do you need something to help? I’ll go buy it, okay?”
This time, even the raging snowstorm seemed to come to a halt.
In the eyes of the ferocious demon, an indescribable confusion finally emerged.
“Please, quiet down,” he said slowly.
Yao Yao sniffled for a while, then remembered she didn’t have money to buy anything and started crying even louder.
So poor.
However, within her tiny consciousness, a small area suddenly opened up, shaped like a multi-layered treasure chest. Sniffling, Yao Yao unexpectedly accessed it within her consciousness and found herself inside a game marketplace.
Starting from the bottom layer of the chest were medicines and clothes she had bought before. As the chest ascended, the tiers grew higher in quality until the topmost layer displayed numerous mystical artifacts popular among the cultivators from Lingzhou, all exhibited here.
Yet, all these items were currently grayed out, still locked. The unlocking criterion wasn’t money but rather droplet-shaped spirit pearls. For instance, an ordinary piece of clothing might require a quarter droplet, while the divine weapons at the top tiers demanded several rows of countless droplets.
Yao Yao blinked rapidly, her emotions swiftly recovering. Once she figured out this chest, she could not only gift Chong Yan new things but also arm herself, becoming an extraordinary powerhouse.
Wow.
But then, a cold, stern voice sounded beside her.
“Run now, you still have time.”
Yao Yao exited her consciousness and found Chong Yan had sat down against an ice wall, wrapped in a somewhat familiar but now tattered blanket, its pattern barely recognizable.
Leaning against it, Chong Yan felt a bit of warmth, gazing quietly into the distance.
The wind within the abyss had ceased.
Dusk slowly settled in, and the moon etched out a blood-red edge.
At least tens of thousands of demonic creatures had crawled out of the depths of the abyss.
Countless grotesque and eerie beings lay prostrate on the icy ground, their gazes filled with greed.
The reason they were biding their time was that Chong Yan hadn’t yet had the seventh soul anchoring nail chiseled out, still possessing a force that made them wary.
But the oppressive presence of the ferocious demon had significantly diminished after countless millennia.
All the creatures knew that he was severely wounded.
No one would save him. All they needed to do was exhaust him until he was spent, take a bite of the demon’s flesh and blood, and these creatures could transcend their current form right on the spot.
Chong Yan sat down, his body laden with injuries.
He pulled out the blanket given to him by that person. He had always used it with utmost care, secretly protecting it with his divine power, yet it was still worn out. Normally, he was reluctant to use it.
But Chong Yan was tired.
He had fought for a day and night, driven in six soul anchoring nails, his divine body almost completely shattered. All the creatures in the frigid abyss were waiting to feast upon his body.
Rose hadn’t come.
Forget it.
“Why should I run?”
Yao Yao followed his gaze and suddenly noticed an uncountable number of demonic creatures on the moonlit ice surface. Some were covered in eyes, some had razor-sharp mouthparts, appearing extremely terrifying.
However, they seemed restless in the darkness, hesitant to approach directly, obviously fearing something.
Yao Yao chuckled softly.
In Chong Yan’s gaze, she shook her head and laughed as she stood up.
It was surprising that she hadn’t even shed blood, yet her presence alone was deterring these creatures from getting close.
“I’m really powerful.”
Yao Yao slowly rose, feeling as though a resounding background track was playing, making her feel incredibly cool.
In the original plot, the male lead had to rely on her blood to repel a multitude of demons, although that storyline was rubbish, it undeniably proved the potency of Yao Yao’s bloodline.
Taking a step in front of Chong Yan, Yao Yao turned back to him with a reassuring expression. “Don’t be afraid.”
Chong Yan tilted his head slightly.
His expression in that moment was indescribable.
Yao Yao quickly turned back, standing confidently in front of the demonic horde, trying hard to intimidate them, “Ah!”
The creatures at the forefront showed signs of consciousness.
As they saw that the ancient demon was so weakened that he needed a fragile girl to stand in front of him, the restless creatures tentatively extended their claws, marking the ice surface.
The seated demon didn’t move.
Then, the entire horde surged forward, finally overcoming the fear they held for the ruler of the demon realm after countless years, rushing madly toward them.
“Oh!” Yao Yao exclaimed in shock.
“They’re so brave, overcoming their fear of me.”
Touching her flushed cheeks, she sighed, “I guess I have to use blood then.”
She turned around hesitantly and saw the handsome little demon slowly closing his eyes, exuding a sense of self-abandonment and melancholic beauty.
As he tilted his head, the neckline of his clothing loosened slightly, revealing a bit of his sturdy and fair chest.
Yao Yao’s heart raced; she felt hot all over, admiring the lines from his jaw to his neck, finding them all so beautiful.
Chong Yan thought, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to die like this.
Wrapped in that blanket, it felt like he could die in her embrace.
After death, he wouldn’t long for her attention or wish for her to appear and touch his head.
“I don’t want it to be like this either.”
The girl beside him squatted down, covering her nose, speaking softly.
Chong Yan remained silent with his eyes closed, indifferent to it all. Would she plunge the seventh soul nail into his heart?
But she extended her finger, gently poking at his cold chest, and in a surprisingly innocent voice, asked him, “Can I see your abs?”
