Chapter 11
Zhu Suisui looked over.
The person who came was about twenty years old. She was Lu Xueke, the daughter of Lu’s fourth son.
Since she was a member of the Lu family, she was naturally beautiful. She was about five feet four inches tall and dressed very fashionably.
She was the only child of her father and mother, and she was a late-in-life child, so she was spoiled and had a spoiled personality.
In her previous life, Lu Xueke had always disliked her. She was jealous because Zhu Suisui’s presence had taken away everyone’s attention, and Lu’s old man, as the head of the family, doted on Zhu Suisui to the extreme.
She didn’t understand why a country girl deserved such treatment. What right did she have?
Driven by jealousy, Lu Xueke would always taunt her whenever she saw her.
In her previous life, Zhu Suisui had always swallowed her anger. She didn’t want to argue with anyone in the Lu family. She was afraid of their disapproval, and because of this, she had emboldened them, making them think she was weak and easy to bully.
But this time, she didn’t need to put up with it anymore.
Don’t mess with me unless I mess with you.
This was Lu Xueke’s own fault.
Thinking about this, Zhu Suisui smiled at Lu Xueke, her demeanor composed and confident, “Xueke, how do you know I was scammed? Do you know something about this seal? If you do, tell me how I was scammed.”
This was the first time Lu Xueke had seen the timid Zhu Suisui actively fight back against her.
And she didn’t know if it was her imagination, but she felt that Zhu Suisui was much prettier than before. She was radiant and charming.
She was five feet six inches tall, with a slender waist that could be grasped with one hand, a pair of full breasts, and a pair of long legs that were the envy of many.
Her already beautiful face, with a face as small as a palm, had a complexion like jade, skin as white as snow, soft and plump lips that were a delicate pink, and a pair of lake-like eyes that were slightly upturned, with a natural charm, beautiful enough to captivate the heart.
Actually, this kind of beauty was very aggressive and flamboyant. Even in the capital city, it was hard to find someone prettier than Zhu Suisui.
In terms of appearance alone, she was a perfect match for Lu Lanxu, like a pair of beautiful jade ornaments.
But in the past, Zhu Suisui always liked to speak with her head lowered, and her voice was as thin as a mosquito’s whine. You couldn’t hear it unless you listened carefully. She wasn’t elegant or confident enough. Even the most beautiful face would be diminished.
But now it was different.
She stood straight, her former timidity seemed to have disappeared, leaving only a calm expression in her eyes. She had a feeling of “a light boat has crossed ten thousand mountains,” and at first glance, she even had a bit of Lu Lanxu’s shadow.
This realization shocked Lu Xueke.
She immediately snapped out of it, realizing that Zhu Suisui was refuting her. She sneered, “Didn’t you hear what Uncle said? This seal is only worth a few dozen yuan at most. Even if I don’t know, surely Uncle doesn’t know either?
He’s in this business. You were scammed, you were scammed. Two hundred yuan isn’t much to our Lu family, but it’s quite boring that you were scammed and still have this attitude.”
After saying this,
Lu Xueke looked at Lu Taiping, demanding that he answer.
“Uncle, don’t you think this thing is not worth that much?”
Lu Taiping scratched his nose. He knew he shouldn’t have said anything. One was his own niece, and the other was the old man’s favorite granddaughter-in-law. He didn’t want to offend either of them.
He chose to smooth things over, “Let’s do this. I’ll take this seal for five hundred yuan. Value is all relative, right? Xueke, don’t be so relentless. Sui Sui is your sister-in-law.”
On the surface, it sounded like he was helping Zhu Suisui, but in reality, he thought Zhu Suisui had been scammed and bought something that wasn’t worth the price.
Lu Xueke naturally understood. She looked at Zhu Suisui with disdain, her tone sarcastic.
“Sister-in-law, you’re so lucky. You got to marry into our Lu family. Lanxu Gege’s salary isn’t low, so he can afford for you to buy these junk. Now, you have Uncle and Grandpa to back you up. I really have nothing to say.”
Lu’s old man was about to say something, but he saw that Zhu Suisui seemed to want to handle it herself. He thought for a moment and didn’t speak.
He knew that Zhu Suisui was a good girl. He liked her from the bottom of his heart, but she had been raised in the countryside and was too timid. He had helped her a few times, but it had only made the children in the family resent her.
If Zhu Suisui could really handle these relationships herself, he was willing to give her the opportunity.
Zhu Suisui also understood what Lu’s old man meant.
He was encouraging her to be bold.
In her previous life, she wouldn’t have dared to argue about this kind of thing. But this time, she wasn’t willing to let Lu Xueke belittle her like this.
She said she was lucky.
But she had never thought that if it weren’t for her grandfather, Lu’s old man might not be alive. Would the Lu family still be in this situation? And if her grandfather had lived a good life, he might have had a bright future.
Zhu Suisui didn’t want to talk about what could have been in the previous generation. After all, it was already a fact. Lu’s old man had been very kind to her, and there was no point in hypotheticals about things that had already happened.
But her lack of concern wasn’t a reason for Lu Xueke to attack her.
Zhu Suisui first looked at Lu Taiping and asked, “Uncle, have you ever collected this kind of seal before?”
This question made Lu Taiping pause for a moment before he understood what Zhu Suisui meant. He suppressed his displeasure and said, “Although I haven’t collected it before, I know a little bit about it. If this seal had a provenance, it would be worth investigating.
But this seal is so small, it doesn’t use much material. It’s probably just a small trinket that a Qing Dynasty noble carved for fun. It’s already good enough to sell for a few dozen yuan.”
The Qing Dynasty was divided into different periods.
If it was from the late Qing Dynasty, then it wouldn’t be worth much.
Even if he didn’t have a deep understanding, he was still in this business and had seen many good things. He was definitely better than Zhu Suisui.
Lu Taiping thought Zhu Suisui was really petty. She didn’t deserve Lu Lanxu at all.
He had already given her a way out, but she was still pushing her advantage, questioning his expertise, which made Lu Taiping dislike her.
But he had to give her some face in front of Lu’s old man. He didn’t need to argue with a junior.
Seeing this, Lu Xueke became even more proud. She looked at Zhu Suisui with disdain, her tone cold, “Sister-in-law, don’t be so smug. Uncle said he’s willing to pay five hundred yuan. Don’t make a fool of yourself here.”
She was getting out of line.
“Xueke.” Lu’s old man’s voice deepened, and he looked displeased.
Seeing this,
Lu Xueke, although she was unconvinced, didn’t dare to disobey the old man. She could only shut her mouth angrily.
But Zhu Suisui ignored her.
Instead, she looked at Lu Taiping and said, “Uncle, since you can’t tell the origin of this seal, you can’t determine its true value. Now you’re saying it’s worthless, but that’s completely unreasonable.”
