Chapter 13
Military District.
Lu Lanxu finished dealing with everything and glanced at the time.
It was only five o’clock.
Dinner usually started at six.
There was enough time to get there from here.
Lu Lanxu went downstairs and got into a Hongqi sedan.
The driver asked for the address.
Lu Lanxu said, “Go to the Nanluo old house.”
The car started.
The bustling streets were filled with bicycles, trams, and pedestrians.
Lu Lanxu hadn’t slept all night. He wanted to take a nap in the car, but his mind was filled with the passion of Zhu Suisui from yesterday.
Her skin was like snow, and her body, nourished for over a year, had become much plumper. Her slender waist was captivating, her breasts alluring, every inch as delicate as porcelain. Her breath was fragrant, and her eyes held a newfound charm.
Her voice was seductive.
She moaned in rhythm with him.
Intertwined, rising and falling.
She was like a seductive temptress, a soul-stealing enchantress, making it impossible to resist.
If not for this, with Lu Lanxu’s self-control, how could he have lost control for the first time?
His Adam’s apple bobbed, and then he looked out the window.
An old shop came into view – Fude Run.
Lu Lanxu suddenly spoke.
“Stop.”
After getting out of the car, the driver waited outside.
The temperature after the snow was very low. Unlike the warmth inside the car, outside, Lu Lanxu felt the biting wind.
He walked inside.
Fude Run was founded in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties and was a true advocate for the jade culture.
Here, you could find a wide variety of jade ornaments and have them customized with inlays.
It was renowned throughout the capital with the saying, “Fude Run in the capital, exquisite jade for three hundred years.”
Naturally, the interior lived up to its reputation. The decor was antique and elegant, likely newly renovated. Some goods were displayed on the counters, divided by area.
A salesperson approached him, noticing his elegant appearance and cool demeanor, and became more attentive.
“Sir, what are you looking for? A gift or for yourself?”
Lu Lanxu’s eyes fell on a pair of earrings made of purple gemstones.
The craftsman’s hands were skilled, directly shaping the gemstone into a pair of spread-winged butterflies, shimmering with dazzling brilliance, conveying a sense of yearning for freedom.
He suddenly felt that these earrings would be perfect for Zhu Suisui.
The purple charm, the butterfly’s allure, the gemstone’s brilliance, all came together in a breathtaking masterpiece.
It was like Zhu Suisui last night, her slender waist, her soft red lips, the faint sweat on her forehead.
Her arms, like white lotus roots, wrapped around his back.
When she looked at him, her watery almond eyes, with a hint of red at the corners, were captivating.
Lu Lanxu’s eyes darkened slightly, “I’ll take these.”
After they were packaged, Lu Lanxu paid and realized he didn’t have much money left.
He hadn’t brought much money back this time. Most of his salary had gone to Zhu Suisui, some to support the families of his comrades, and the rest was borrowed from a friend.
Who would have thought that Lu Zhengwei, the most brilliant and talented political commissar in the capital, would be so broke, making him laugh and cry at the same time.
He had emptied his pockets to buy a gift for his wife.
The only thing Lu Lanxu was grateful for was that he could still afford this gift.
With the gift in hand, Lu Lanxu couldn’t help but think.
Would she smile when she saw this gift?
Would she look at him with those sparkling, alluring eyes?
Their long separation had made him anticipate their reunion even more.
Just as he was about to leave.
Before Lu Lanxu could get into the car, he heard hurried footsteps behind him, calling out to him.
“Lu Zhengwei—”
His long legs, which were about to step into the car, stopped. Lu Lanxu turned around and saw it was Xiao Pan.
He was naturally surprised and his brow furrowed slightly.
A bad feeling arose in his heart.
Xiao Pan ran up to him, out of breath. He had ridden his bicycle here and thought he wouldn’t make it in time, but luckily he had.
Seeing Lu Lanxu’s car parked by the side of the road, he parked his bicycle and rushed over, just in time to stop Lu Lanxu from getting in.
When he reached Lu Lanxu, Xiao Pan looked anxious, “Urgent notice, you need to return to the military district now, there’s an emergency meeting.”
Upon hearing this.
Lu Lanxu’s expression turned serious, his face immediately becoming solemn. He instinctively wanted to leave.
But for some reason, the image of Zhu Suisui’s slightly mocking eyes from earlier today suddenly flashed in his mind, as if she had anticipated his absence.
He also remembered that she was sick and didn’t know how she was doing now.
Lu Lanxu stopped, his eyes dark and deep. He asked, “What time is the meeting?”
Xiao Pan: “Five forty.”
It was now five twenty.
Twenty minutes was not enough time to reach Nanluo Alley.
Xiao Pan didn’t know what Lu Lanxu was thinking, and he was naturally anxious, “Lu Zhengwei, hurry up, I think this meeting is about the Y country incident, the higher-ups are taking it very seriously, otherwise they wouldn’t have called a meeting at the last minute. I know it’s Family Reunion Day, and you should be back to have dinner with your wife, but you can have dinner any day, you can’t disobey orders.”
After the incident in 1979, although things had calmed down for now, the other side had not given up and had been trying to harass them, the situation was extremely serious.
Now, with such an urgent meeting, it must be about deploying measures against this harassment.
Lu Lanxu clenched the gift box in his hand, his eyes dark and deep.
He stood tall and silent for a long time.
Lu Lanxu handed the box to the driver, his voice low.
“Take this to my wife, just say… forget it, don’t say anything.”
He didn’t know how long the meeting would last, and it was possible that he would be sent on a mission at any time.
Military orders were paramount, and he had no choice.
He had long since dedicated himself to the country.
Zhu Suisui followed the crowd out.
The living room was lively, almost everyone who could come was there.
She couldn’t see Lu Lanxu.
Lu’s mother was talking to her elder sister-in-law, and when she saw Zhu Suisui, she called her to a quiet corner.
Lu’s mother said, “Lanxu’s driver came by just now, there’s an emergency meeting, Lanxu can’t make it.”
Upon hearing this.
Zhu Suisui was not surprised at all.
She knew it.
He wouldn’t come.
Zhu Suisui didn’t feel anything in her heart. Perhaps she had been disappointed enough times that she no longer had any expectations.
It was like stagnant water.
She mockedly curled her lips.
If he couldn’t keep his promise, why give others hope?
Zhu Suisui felt even more foolish. She had been reborn once, yet she was still so easily fooled by a man’s promises.
This further strengthened Zhu Suisui’s resolve to get a divorce.
She replied coldly, “I know, mother.”
Although Lu’s mother didn’t think much of Zhu Suisui, she knew that on such occasions, everyone else was in pairs, while Zhu Suisui was alone, which was indeed unfair to her.
Thinking of the gift the driver had brought, Lu’s mother was about to take out the box and try to comfort her, but someone called out to her from behind.
“Third Aunt, what are you whispering about with your niece-in-law?”
