Chapter 16 Injection of the “R Virus”
In just a moment, the zombies that had gathered together once again frantically slammed against the door.
Lin Mu put down the machete, dragged his sore arms and legs, and moved a sofa to block the door.
Fu Jingmo pointed upstairs, and the two of them went up the stairs.
The first floor of Zhang Qiang’s house was a living room, and the second floor was where people lived, with two rooms on the left and right. The doors were wide open, and the clothes inside were thrown on the bed in a mess, obviously indicating a hasty departure.
Fu Jingmo walked straight into the room near the street, opened the window, snorted coldly, and threw a crystal at the door of the opposite house.
With a bang, the already precarious door collapsed, and the zombies gathered downstairs hesitated for two seconds before rushing over.
Fu Jingmo turned around and shook his hand, his face indifferent, “Eliminating harm for the people.”
Lin Mu stood by the door, not saying anything. These people did not mutate into zombies, but their hearts had all changed!
The two of them saw Zhang Qiang’s small truck behind the house. The truck was not big, just an ordinary one with a cargo compartment at the back and space for two people in the front.
Most of the zombies were lured to the opposite side; it was estimated that they had already found those few people. There were only three or four zombies left behind, standing still and swaying in place.
The second-floor bathroom window was open, providing a convenient way down. The two of them landed lightly on the roof and used their abilities to easily deal with the remaining zombies.
Lin Mu took out the keys and unlocked the car door, preparing to go to the driver’s seat, but Fu Jingmo reached out and pulled him back, “I’ll drive.”
Lin Mu nodded, “If you’re tired, you can switch with me.”
The car started and turned onto the street, crushing the scattered limbs and fragments on the ground. Lin Mu felt a chill in his heart. If it weren’t for Fu Jingmo, it could have been him lying on the ground now.
The car was quiet, and the two of them remained silent for a while without speaking.
The zombies in the rearview mirror tirelessly and grotesquely pursued fresh flesh and blood, until the car drove onto the highway, gradually disappearing from view.
The journey from the small town to the city takes just over an hour. With only a few hundred inhabitants, the town has become so terrifying after the mutation. Lin Mu couldn’t help but imagine that the situation in the city would be even worse.
Fu Jingmo turned his head to look at him and said, “I’m thirsty.”
He felt a little uneasy when he noticed that Lin Mu didn’t speak for a while.
Upon hearing this, Lin Mu took out some water from his bag, unscrewed the cap, and handed it over. Fu Jingmo took it with one hand and took a sip.
Lin Mu looked at him, recalling the scene just now, feeling incredible, “Your black mist is like a wind blade, very powerful, but does it consume a lot of your energy?”
Fu Jingmo nodded and handed the water back, “The abilities have many functions, all of which can be explored by oneself. As long as you learn to control it, it is more powerful than we imagine.”
“Is your ability also fused with something?”
Since they were companions, Lin Mu would be frank with him and ask directly if he wanted to know.
“It’s not exactly fusion. Abilities are now initially divided into three categories: genetic mutation, elemental mutation, and biological mutation. Genetic mutation refers to a certain skill gene passed down through generations on the body of the mutant, and this skill mutation becomes an ability.”
“Elemental mutation involves the natural elements such as wind, rain, thunder, lightning, metal, wood, water, fire, and earth – all the elements you can imagine. As for biological mutation, it’s similar to yours, merging with a certain type of life form and acquiring their characteristics,”
Fu Jingmo’s voice was pleasant, with a slight difference from his often casual laughter, it was mellow and soothing to listen to.
This was the message he received from the black box this morning, which happened to inform Lin Mu.
“Similar? Then isn’t mine a biological mutation?” Lin asked in confusion.
“After merging with a life form, the mutant will exhibit obvious biological features after a fever, just like some people growing animal ears, and some people having part of their skin transformed into plants, but you don’t have that, do you?”
He glanced at Lin Mu.
“…”
Rubbing his arm, Lin Mu didn’t want to turn into tree bark. “What about you?”
Fu Jingmo casually said, “I was injected with the ‘R virus’.”
“!!!”
Lin Mu was shocked, “How could you…”
This news was too horrifying. He didn’t mean to pry into Fu Jingmo’s experiences, but couldn’t help blurting it out.
His reaction was obviously expected by Fu Jingmo, “The energy of mutants has a capacity, it’s not limitless. In the state of no energy consumption, I can only use the black mist attack like just now twice, and it takes time to recover after use.”
Lin Mu nodded in understanding, but he still couldn’t feel the ability on his own body…
“Get some sleep, it’s still a long way to the city.”
Fu Jingmo ended the conversation.
“Okay…”
Lin Mu thought he wouldn’t be able to sleep after what happened in the town, but surprisingly, after hearing Fu Jingmo’s words, he inexplicably fell asleep quickly.
In Lin Mu’s sleep, the white truck gradually approached Yichang City…
