Jiang Cheng raised her arm and shouted, “Let’s do it!”
“Alright!”
Zhao Chengde was the first to respond, raising his fist with a look of excitement, as if he had been injected with adrenaline.
“Let’s go!”
Principal Wang was all about support. Whether they could finish or do it well, moral support had to be there.
“Let’s crush it!”
The bespectacled man was even more excited than Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng was the first person to see this mountain of documents and not retreat or complain. Instead, she passionately declared, “Let’s do it!”
The cold workshop instantly became a place of fiery enthusiasm.
Director Sun and Manager Guo had at least met Jiang Cheng once before, and that one meeting had left a deep impression on them, so they remained relatively calm.
If it weren’t for the need to maintain their dignity, they might have joined in the excitement.
The only one completely baffled was the older translator, Zhang Junde, who had come along.
He had spent the entire journey advising Zhao Chengde, who was on his first translation assignment, to remain composed and maintain a sense of decorum.
But now…
This was the result!
It seemed like Zhao Chengde had completely ignored his advice!
And who exactly was this girl???
“Ahem… Very good. Let me say a few words.”
Director Sun had just started speaking when Manager Guo cut him off.
“Enough with the formalities! You’re rambling without getting to the point.”
Manager Guo turned directly to Jiang Cheng and asked, “Jiang Cheng, aren’t you a Russian translator?”
“The labels on this machine are all in English. What are you doing here?”
Having calmed down, Manager Guo pointed at the English words on the machine, waiting for Jiang Cheng’s response.
Jiang Cheng, however, countered, “Did I say I don’t know English?”
Manager Guo walked over to Jiang Cheng, his expression serious.
“Comrade Jiang Cheng, I admit your Russian translation yesterday was stunning. Your Russian skills are exceptional. But translation is no small matter. It’s not something to be taken lightly. Do you understand?”
Jiang Cheng dropped her playful demeanor and replied with equal seriousness, “Manager Guo, I never joke about translation.”
“I learned English from Mr. Xu Changping.”
As she spoke, Jiang Cheng took out a document from her bag and unfolded it.
“Manager Guo, this is my foreign language book ownership certificate. It lists English, Russian, and Japanese. If I weren’t proficient in these three languages, why would I legally own books in all three?”
Manager Guo was genuinely surprised.
He had a similar certificate himself.
He knew it was authentic.
After a few seconds, Manager Guo slapped Director Sun on the back with a loud thud.
“Great! This is fantastic!”
Manager Guo was genuinely pleased.
He was happy that Xinhua Bookstore had gained a multilingual translator and that he could help his old friend out of this predicament.
“I told you I found you a great helper! And you didn’t believe me!”
Director Sun stepped in to mediate, rubbing his back as he said, “Your hand is too heavy.”
Manager Guo rolled his eyes. “That’s because you’ve been sitting in your office for too long and have gone soft.”
After saying this, Manager Guo walked over to the older translator, Mr. Zhang.
“Uncle Zhang, could you please review Jiang Cheng’s translation skills later? If she meets your standards, I’ll feel more at ease.”
Manager Guo gave Mr. Zhang enough face and also helped clear up his confusion.
“Of course, of course.”
At Manager Guo’s introduction, Jiang Cheng politely greeted Mr. Zhang.
Mr. Zhang responded with a reserved and somewhat cold “Hmm,” adding with a tone of authority, “My standards are very high.”
Jiang Cheng immediately flashed a bright smile and said, “What a coincidence! I love high standards.”
Mr. Zhang locked eyes with Jiang Cheng, who neither flinched nor backed down, remaining calm and composed.
With someone like Mr. Zhang, if she had retreated or been overly modest, it would have backfired.
“I hope you can live up to your words.”
After Mr. Zhang spoke, Manager Guo quickly interjected, “Let’s get started. The task is heavy, and time is tight. Every day we delay, they can’t start production.”
“Right, right, right!”
The bespectacled man finally found a gap to chime in. He was truly anxious!
The group walked over to the documents, and the bespectacled man explained, “When we imported this equipment from abroad, not only were we given a hard time during negotiations, but we also received no technical guidance. They dumped a pile of documents on us, saying everything was in there, and told us to figure it out ourselves.”
“Actually, we know that more than half of this is useless, but we can’t afford to miss anything.”
The bespectacled man’s words filled the others with a sense of helpless anger.
On the international stage, they were behind.
Being behind meant being bullied.
They had won the war, but invisible battles and oppression still existed.
This production line was something the foreigners had discarded, yet they had to pay a hefty price to buy it back and still endure their harassment.
The mountain of boxes before them was proof.
“Those foreigners only know how to play these underhanded, childish tricks!”
“Are we Chinese afraid of such childish means?”
“Don’t make me laugh! The more they want us to fail, the more determined we are to succeed!”
“Not only will we succeed, but we’ll do it better!”
“When it comes to slapping them in the face, no matter how far, we’ll get there!”
Jiang Cheng’s voice grew louder with each sentence.
As her volume increased, Jiang Cheng was the first to pick up a box and calmly open it.
She looked up, smiled faintly, and asked with confidence, “Everyone, how about we crush them completely?”
How about it?
Of course, let’s do it!
“Come on, let’s crush the bastards!”
The bespectacled man was the first to step forward, grabbing a box and getting to work.
Zhao Chengde, once again feeling the adrenaline rush Jiang Cheng had given him before, walked over with high morale, picked up a box, and got to work.
Manager Guo and Mr. Zhang were more shocked than anything, but they also felt a sense of relief.
They might be old, but the next generation had already risen.
Director Sun watched as Jiang Cheng’s words ignited the enthusiasm of the group. He had only one thought: it wouldn’t be bad if his youngest son could at least be a follower.
Jiang Cheng was the first to pull out a document and approach Mr. Zhang.
In front of Mr. Zhang, she demonstrated fluent speech, standard pronunciation, and precise translation.
When an expert makes a move, you know immediately if they’re the real deal.
Mr. Zhang was so shocked he forgot to speak.
“Mr. Zhang, have I passed your review?”
“Yes! You’ve passed!”
After receiving confirmation, Jiang Cheng took the document, stepped back a few paces, and continued reading.
After his initial surprise, Mr. Zhang nudged Manager Guo and whispered, “Was her Russian at this level yesterday too?”
Manager Guo, who was looking down at the documents, shook his head.
“I don’t know. All I know is that she gave me a Russian lesson.”
“Why?”
Mr. Zhang didn’t understand how delivering a translation had turned into a lesson.
Manager Guo sighed as he recalled, “I just casually said her translation was decent, and she wasn’t having it. She insisted on asking me which parts were just ‘decent.’”
“In the end, she made me analyze each sentence with her, and the conclusion was that her translation was excellent.”
Mr. Zhang understood now.
In short, Manager Guo had tried to play it cool but ended up hitting a brick wall.
“Not only did I get a lesson, but she also squeezed an extra thirty yuan out of me for the translation fee!”
Manager Guo said this with a look of despair, still feeling the sting.
But what could he do? He had been left speechless, and he had personally admitted that Jiang Cheng’s translation was outstanding.
He had thought she was just a meticulous scholar of translation, but it turned out she was both meticulous and money-savvy!
