Chapter 21: Comforting You
Jiang Yu watched as Jiang Qingqing disappeared before his eyes. Although shocked, his expression remained unchanged.
Wuwei said, “Don’t know.”
Liu Xubai smiled and nodded. “Oh, don’t know? I’d like to see whether you’ll still not know when facing torture devices.”
—
After pushing open the door, Jiang Qingqing entered a new bedroom.
At a glance, everything was luxurious. The pure black tones, blended with a touch of metallic color, appeared both elegant and noble.
For some reason, the arrangement of the room suddenly reminded Jiang Qingqing of that cold, lazy voice.
Is this… the house of a god?
Jiang Qingqing slowly walked inside. The vast bedroom was empty.
Fu Zhengnan saw Jiang Qingqing walk in. Seeing that she had no visible wounds, his eyes calmed slightly.
He did not immediately ask what had happened but simply asked, “Hungry? Want milk with bird’s nest porridge or steamed buns?”
Jiang Qingqing found the nearest sofa and sat down.
Her mind was blank. Following Fu Zhengnan’s choices, she softly replied, “Milk and steamed buns.”
“Mm.”
Fu Zhengnan responded lightly and placed an order from the mall.
When he set the breakfast on the small table in front of the sofa and saw Jiang Qingqing still looking dazed, he sighed and, with a coaxing tone, said, “With me here, you won’t have any trouble.”
Jiang Qingqing stared blankly at a corner of the room and shook her head. Deep down, she did not believe Fu Zhengnan’s words.
A god may have divine power, but only within this house.
But she would not spend the rest of her life in this room.
Her voice was distant:
“I want to return to the palace to find my father. I want to uncover the truth behind the Jiang family’s treason, save Jiang Yu, save the Jiang family. And that hellish land of Yingzhou—I want it to return to how it was before. But that’s just wishful thinking.”
“In the face of these disasters and chaos, I am just useless.”
“You can’t help me. No one can help me.”
Jiang Qingqing’s eyes turned red. She quickly lowered her head, allowing her tears to fall onto the carpet.
If, in her childhood, she had not studied the arts—music, chess, painting, poetry—but instead learned swordsmanship like a man, perhaps today she would be of some use.
Suddenly, a soft, plush sensation surrounded her, growing in number.
Jiang Qingqing turned her head in confusion.
The once empty room was now filled with plush toys—one after another, spreading all around her.
She reached out and hugged a half-human-sized plushie, squeezing it in her arms.
The fluffy texture made her instinctively knead it. “Why are there so many stuffed animals?”
She turned to Fu Zhengnan and asked.
Fu Zhengnan’s thin lips parted slightly, his voice deep and steady: “To comfort you.”
Comfort me?
Did he mean… that kind of comfort?
Jiang Qingqing’s tear-stained peach blossom eyes showed a hint of uncertainty.
In the past, only her father and mother would comfort her when she was upset.
Before she could respond, Fu Zhengnan continued:
“As long as you want, I will help you.”
Jiang Qingqing didn’t quite understand.
“Is this your mission?”
Otherwise…
Fu Zhengnan smiled faintly. “For now, yes.”
For now?
What about after that?
Jiang Qingqing patted the plush toy’s head, uncertainly asking, “Then can you take me back to the palace? I know a secret passage that leads directly from outside the city to my father’s study.”
When she was younger, her mother often used that passage to sneak her out of the palace.
“Of course.”
Fu Zhengnan answered with certainty.
“But first, you have to finish your breakfast.”
Jiang Qingqing nodded, sniffled, and picked up the glass of milk.
As she chewed on the meat bun, a sudden realization struck her—just moments ago, she had opened the door right in front of everyone!
She abruptly stood up and looked around.
Something wasn’t right.
Why was there no one here?
Did they not follow her in?
Fu Zhengnan had just stepped out of the corporate elevator when he saw Jiang Qingqing searching around through the surveillance screen.
“What are you looking for?”
Jiang Qingqing asked hesitantly, “Isn’t this house right behind a wooden door? Why didn’t they chase after me?”
“Oh, I set it so that outsiders can’t enter.”
Fu Zhengnan replied casually.
He did not realize how much shock this gave Jiang Qingqing.
She covered her mouth with both hands. Is he really that powerful?
A bold thought suddenly popped into her head. With a negotiating tone, she asked:
“Can a god turn the entire Daliang Kingdom into one big house?”
If so… wouldn’t that mean, as long as she didn’t allow it, the enemy troops could never invade?
Fu Zhengnan paused as he was about to open his laptop, his thin lips pressing together.
Jiang Qingqing’s question was the equivalent of asking him if he could buy all the land in China.
He considered it for a moment. Under Jiang Qingqing’s urging, he took a deep breath and replied slowly:
“I’ll do my best…”
Jiang Qingqing: !!!
She had already begun to see Fu Zhengnan’s words as her faith.
So!
If God Says It Can Be Done, Then It Must Be Possible!
Changing her previously dejected demeanor, she became enthusiastic and ambitious:
“So when can you start building the house? Tomorrow?”
“If it’s too troublesome, you can do it city by city. There are twelve cities in Daliang. If you do one per day, in twelve days, the entire Daliang will be covered!”
Jiang Qingqing excitedly hugged a stuffed toy and started counting the days on her fingers.
Fu Zhengnan: “……”
He really shouldn’t have said that.
Looking at the laptop on the table that had been locked after three consecutive incorrect password attempts…
Fu Zhengnan took the initiative to change the subject:
“Didn’t you want to return to the palace? Do you know how to drive a carriage?”
Jiang Qingqing was stunned.
Why was he talking about this now? Weren’t they discussing building houses?
But she still answered honestly:
“No, I don’t.”
So… he couldn’t just teleport her from this room to the palace?
The stories her mother used to tell always described it that way.
Fu Zhengnan: “Then how do you plan to go back?”
The question seemed reasonable, but Jiang Qingqing felt something was off. How to go back?
“I don’t know… Didn’t you say you’d help me with everything?”
Was he lying?
For once, Fu Zhengnan pressed his tongue lightly against the roof of his mouth.
Silence…
His fingertips scrolled through the latest Player’s Manual, searching for a way to make himself feel less awkward. In the end, he spent another 200,000 to unlock an external view of the house.
Jiang Qingqing couldn’t drive a carriage, but someone else could.
—
After personally searching the entire house, Liu Xubai left with Liu Mei.
Only a few guards remained at the scene, along with Jiang Yu, who had been beaten half to death and tied to a wooden rack.
Jiang Yu had been tortured for a long time but had not spoken a single word.
His teeth were clenched so tightly that blood was seeping from the corners of his lips. His breathing was shallow, and he was on the verge of passing out.
Seeing his state, the guard holding the torture device hesitated.
“The young master didn’t order us to kill him! Should we continue?”
The guard beside him shook his head.
“Let’s take a break. After all, he’s still a young general. Our master might have other uses for him in the future.”
“Come on, let’s find something to eat. It’s almost noon.”
“Leave two people here to keep watch.”
Before their conversation could end—
More than ten bricks fell from the sky like raindrops, hitting them squarely on the head with unerring precision.
The guards didn’t even have time to cry out before they passed out.
Jiang Yu, nailed to the wooden rack, watched the strange scene before him. A flicker of hope flashed in his eyes.
Could it be the princess?
But… he had just compromised like that…
She must be so disappointed in him.
In the next moment, a figure appeared before him.
The sunlight behind her was blinding, casting a golden glow around Jiang Qingqing.
In his dazed vision, Jiang Yu felt as if he had just seen a goddess.
