Chapter 19: The Man Who Always Wants to Buy You Things
Sitting in the back seat, blowing the cool breeze.
Bai Ruojiao tilted her head slightly, her eyes narrowed, her bangs swaying in the wind, and her lightly tapping feet, revealing her joyful and relaxed mood.
As if infected by her emotions, Zhao Sihai’s lips also curved into a smile that wouldn’t go away.
Bai Ruojiao suddenly opened her eyes.
“Right, Sihai, when are you going to have the housewarming party?”
Today’s meal was just a reward.
The housewarming party needed to be planned separately, and they couldn’t just invite the people from today.
Zhao Sihai thought for a moment, “Tomorrow night.”
“Okay, I’ll make the guest list. Then you can add anyone else you want?”
The village might seem simple, but the interpersonal relationships were actually quite complex.
Especially when it came to inviting guests, it was easy to offend people.
She wasn’t afraid of offending people herself.
But it wasn’t worth it to attract trouble for such a small matter.
“Okay, you make the list.” Zhao Sihai chuckled.
Bai Ruojiao pinched the tip of her braid and poked his back, “So obedient. You’re the head of the family.”
Zhao Sihai shrunk his back, answering without hesitation, “I don’t know about others, but in my family, the head of the family is my wife.”
Bai Ruojiao’s lips curled up, and she snorted, “Others don’t know, but I thought I was very fierce.”
They soon arrived at the commune.
They bought two large iron pots, ten porcelain bowls, and ten pairs of chopsticks at the local products department store.
As for the clay pots and earthenware jars, they could just go to the kiln in the village and exchange them.
The two of them pushed their bicycles and chatted as they walked. When they passed the supply and marketing cooperative, Zhao Sihai suddenly stopped.
Bai Ruojiao was startled. Seeing him pushing the bicycle to the consignment point, she asked, “Do you need to buy anything else?”
Zhao Sihai parked the bicycle and didn’t answer. He just smiled and pulled her into the supply and marketing cooperative.
As soon as they entered, he looked around, then pulled her towards the daily necessities counter.
Then he pointed to something on one of the shelves.
“Comrade, please give me one of each of these.”
Bai Ruojiao’s eyes widened as she looked at the row of Friendship Snow Cream, Golden Phoenix Face Powder, Clam Oil, and Thousands of Colors…
“Wait!” She quickly grabbed his arm, “Why are you buying these?”
She suddenly had a bad feeling about this.
The female saleswoman also looked at them with suspicion.
Seeing that they were both covered in dust, she thought they were just looking and not buying. She didn’t want to take things for them to look at and stood there, not moving.
Zhao Sihai chuckled softly, “Of course, it’s for you.”
Then he looked helpless and heartbroken, “You don’t have to save money. It’s worth spending it on you. If we don’t have enough money, we can earn more. People are the most important thing. Besides, I earn money to spend on you and our daughter. Otherwise, it’s meaningless.”
Bai Ruojiao opened her mouth, speechless.
She felt touched, but also a little helpless and speechless.
“Comrade, please get them for me.” Zhao Sihai finished speaking and then turned to look at the saleswoman, taking out a wad of money from his canvas bag.
The female saleswoman’s eyes widened when she saw the wad of money.
Her gaze suddenly became hot when she looked at Zhao Sihai.
But seeing his dusty clothes, she immediately dismissed the thought.
Maybe he had saved it for years.
But she still envied Bai Ruojiao.
At least her man was willing to spend money on her.
“Wait, comrade.” Bai Ruojiao quickly spoke when she saw the saleswoman was about to get the items.
The female saleswoman was immediately impatient, “Are you buying or not? If you’re not buying, then leave. Don’t cause trouble.”
Zhao Sihai frowned and his face turned serious, “Qiaoqiao.”
Bai Ruojiao took a deep breath and then forced a smile.
“Sihai, I’m touched by your thoughtfulness, but I don’t need a lot of these things. Buying them would just be a waste.”
Before he could say anything, she turned to the saleswoman and smiled brightly.
“Please give me two jars of Friendship Cream, two boxes of Thousands of Colors, a mirror, and a comb. That’s all.”
She could secretly replace the contents of these items.
Then, she gently persuaded Zhao Sihai, who was clearly unhappy, “That’s enough. Besides, it’s easy to attract gossip if you dress up too much in the village.”
Zhao Sihai frowned, but he was eventually persuaded by her.
The saleswoman, with a sour face, quickly wrapped the items and then gave them a big, cold stare as she sent them away.
She thought to herself: It’s not like she’s that good-looking.
Bai Ruojiao thought that was the end of it.
But she was wrong.
When a man gets excited about buying things for you, it’s not easy to stop him.
Clothes, shoes, pants, handkerchiefs, scarves, gloves, and even feminine hygiene products were bought.
Watching Zhao Sihai stand by the grocery counter, like a big CEO about to swipe his black card.
Bai Ruojiao had already given up and decided to just go with the flow.
After all, her husband was willing to spend money on her, so she should enjoy it.
Be happy, why worry so much?
As for the money, she never worried about it.
Zhao Sihai wasn’t someone who didn’t know how to manage money.
Since he dared to spend so much, it meant he had his own way of making money.
And she, too, had planned how to make her first pot of gold.
When they returned to the village, they were loaded down with things, attracting a lot of gossip.
But the topic quickly shifted to the Zhao family.
It could only be said that too many things had happened at the Zhao family today, and each one was more exciting than the last.
Bai Ruojiao was going to Fang Chunsheng’s house to pick up An’an, and she learned from Aunt Fang what had happened in the afternoon.
It turned out that after Zhao Pozi heard Zhao Dani’s parroting in the afternoon, she immediately went to the intellectual’s courtyard.
She grabbed Lin Qianqian by the hair and beat her up.
As Bai Ruojiao had said, Zhao Pozi was in the late stages of mommy-son syndrome.
Why hadn’t Zhao Lao San married at the age of 26?
One reason was that he was still thinking about Bai Ruojiao.
The other reason was that Zhao Pozi had her eyes set high and didn’t want her son to just find any woman.
She thought no woman was good enough for her precious son.
After the rumors about Lin Qianqian and Zhao Lao San came out.
After confirming with her son that he didn’t have that kind of relationship with Lin Qianqian.
Zhao Pozi thought that Lin Qianqian was deliberately seducing her son, wanting to marry into the Zhao family and harm her precious son, so she naturally didn’t want it.
If the people in the intellectual’s courtyard hadn’t helped, Lin Qianqian would probably have been bedridden for a few days.
Then, in the afternoon, Zhao Pozi went around the village like a patrol.
She got into fights with several people who were gossiping, like a fighting cock.
Aunt Fang couldn’t help but remind her, “You should be careful too. Maybe she’ll come looking for trouble with you.”
Bai Ruojiao smiled gently, “I know.”
But she wasn’t worried. At least within Zhao Chengzu’s three-day “recovery period,” Zhao Pozi wouldn’t dare to come looking for trouble.
On their way home, the mother and son also met many village women chatting outside.
They were polite to her and greeted her with smiles. They also wanted to chat with her about the gossip about the Zhao family.
Bai Ruojiao politely declined, saying she had to take An’an home to rest.
When they saw An’an, who was covered in a blanket, they sighed and said a few words before letting her go.
