Chapter 18: Is the Female Lead Trying to Steal the Male Lead’s Mother’s Script?
On the fifth day, Jin Yue was woken up by the ringing of her phone.
She looked at the number displayed on her phone, waited for the ringtone to continue for a while, and only answered when it was almost about to hang up automatically.
“Yue Yue, are you free today?”
Jin Yue didn’t respond, and the voice on the other end continued: “The matter you told me about last time has made some progress. Can you come out? We’ll talk in detail when we meet.”
Jin Yue glanced at the time on her phone and replied casually: “11 o’clock, at the café across from the school gate.”
Without waiting for a response, she hung up the phone.
It seemed like everything was progressing just as she had hoped.
Qi Bei, oh Qi Bei, after all, we’ve been together before. Isn’t it just a small thing to use your name to act like I have some powers?
Jin Yue changed into a white dress, had a light breakfast, and then drove to the agreed-upon café.
As she drove, she saw Su Chenxi sitting by the window in a red dress, her delicate face still adorned with that familiar smile.
She really is the female lead, isn’t she? In just a few minutes, several guys had already approached her to strike up a conversation.
Looking at the time, it was only 10:50, so it seemed like the female lead was really in a hurry.
Jin Yue turned off her car and got out, heading toward the café.
“Yue Yue, you’re here! Would you like something to drink?” Su Chenxi asked with a smile as Jin Yue sat down across from her, as if she had completely forgotten about the tension from their last confrontation.
“I’m not drinking anything. And stop pretending, you know exactly what we talked about last time,” Jin Yue replied coldly, not bothered by the awkwardness on Su Chenxi’s face. After a pause, she continued: “So, what do you want?”
“Yue Yue, I thought about what you said last time, and I think you’re right. After all, you were once Qi Bei’s girlfriend, and we do know each other. Even though you two broke up, I know that Qi Bei is a loyal and righteous person. If you go to find him, even if he has no feelings for you anymore, he will still care about what happened between you two. So, I think there’s no need for us to keep fighting like this. Qi Bei would be caught in the middle, and that would be hard for him, right?”
Oh, so now she’s acting all sweet, huh? She’s really trying to play both sides.
Jin Yue couldn’t stand it, so she decided to play her own game. “No, Qi Bei won’t feel bad. He’s never had feelings for you. Su Chenxi, maybe you should go see a doctor? Could it be delusional disorder?”
Jin Yue sarcastically mocked her, even making a gesture by tapping her head when mentioning the hospital.
“Thanks to you, I’ve thought it over, and Qi Bei really has been good to me. Maybe I should think carefully about whether I want to go back to him.”
If one fire wasn’t enough, Jin Yue added more fuel to the flames.
Su Chenxi’s expression stiffened for a moment, and a flash of anger flickered in her eyes, but she still smiled and said, “Yue Yue, look at you. I know you must be saying these things out of anger, right? It’s okay, I understand. Let’s not talk about this anymore. Let’s talk about something else. I’ve already spoken to my dad, and I’ve told him that the Qian family can apply for the loan from the bank as planned. My family won’t be holding it up anymore, so you don’t need to waste your energy trying to find Qi Bei, right?”
After thinking for a moment, Su Chenxi continued: “Yue Yue, I won’t hide it from you anymore. I’ve liked Qi Bei since I was young, and I’ve decided to pursue him. So, can you please stay away from him in the future?”
“Even though you and Qi Bei have been together in the past, you two have already broken up. Moreover, your family background is not a match for his. You should understand this clearly, especially considering the situation with the Qian family. We can bankrupt your family with just a few words. Only I am truly the most suitable for him.”
“So, if you don’t want to see both of us hurt, and if you don’t want the Qian family to face trouble again, I suggest you stay away from Qi Bei and me.”
Is the female lead trying to steal the script of the male lead’s mother? Is she threatening me now?
“Where’s the check?”
“What?”
“I thought you were going for the evil mother-in-law trope. After all, on TV, evil mothers-in-law always hand out checks to get rid of people. You’re not just planning on talking, are you?”
Jin Yue mocked her. Even though she had already planned on staying away from the main couple, she didn’t intend to let them treat her like this.
Jin Yue’s response was totally unexpected. Su Chenxi gritted her teeth. After all these years, she thought she had kept her mask well, but it always seemed to slip in front of Jin Yue. “How much do you want?” she asked, her tone harsh.
Jin Yue snorted coldly. “It’s just a joke. I don’t need your money, and I don’t want any more connections with you two. But I especially don’t like being threatened. So, let’s keep our distance in the future.”
After saying that, Jin Yue grabbed her bag and walked away. She had no time to bicker with the female lead. She had to hurry and tell the Qian family the good news.
After the issue with the Qian family had been resolved, Mr. and Mrs. Qian were back to being polite and grateful to Jin Yue, constantly thanking her.
Unfortunately, after the previous confrontation, Jin Yue had realized that the Qian parents only cared about their own benefits, and perhaps also about Qian Shasha’s brother.
As long as she didn’t interfere with their profits, they treated her well, but once she did, their faces would change in an instant.
Jin Yue didn’t want to linger with them any longer. After greeting them, she went upstairs to find Qian Shasha.
Outside, the weather was bright and sunny, but Qian Shasha’s room had the curtains closed, making it pitch black inside.
Jin Yue frowned, walked over to the window, and pulled open the curtains. Sunshine flooded the room, making it bright immediately.
Only then did Jin Yue take a good look at Qian Shasha. She was sitting on the bed with her head down, staring blankly. Her once plump figure had rapidly slimmed down.
Jin Yue felt a pang of heartache and couldn’t find the words to comfort her. She had been focused on resolving the issue but hadn’t considered how Qian Shasha might feel.
Her once loving father, suddenly so indifferent to her in pursuit of profit, was something Jin Yue could understand. If she were in Qian Shasha’s shoes, she would probably be devastated too.
Jin Yue walked up and hugged Qian Shasha. Her voice choked as she said, “Shasha, how did you lose so much weight? Don’t worry, everything has been resolved. If you’re feeling sad, you can talk to me, okay? Don’t keep it all inside.”
Qian Shasha still didn’t react, so Jin Yue continued, “Shasha, I know you’re upset because of what your dad did. Don’t be like this. If you’re sad, you can cry it out. I’ll always be here for you.”
After a long while of comforting, Qian Shasha finally broke down and cried. After letting it all out, she hoarsely said, “Yue Yue, let’s go drink. If we get drunk, we won’t think about anything anymore.”
Seeing Qian Shasha like this, how could Jin Yue refuse? She quickly agreed.
Jin Yue took Qian Shasha to a quiet bar, not the usual Jingjue Bar, since that was where the main couple often appeared.
However, Jin Yue didn’t know that tonight, at this very place, she would run into the person she wanted to avoid. Moreover, her life would undergo a dramatic change. Had she known, she would never have come here.
