Chapter 267: Returning with the Child

Wang Jinhe originally thought that Su Xi might be blaming Su Yu, but unexpectedly, he was concerned about whether Su Jiu was implicated.

“Grandpa…”

“Xiao He, they brought this upon themselves. They may spend their entire lives in prison and never get out,” Su Yu didn’t wish for their lives, just that they wouldn’t continue appearing before him.

“Xiao He, Xiao Yu has suffered too much. Let it go,” Su Xi had experienced too much hardship, and while he harbored resentment towards the two, he understood Su Yu’s actions. He didn’t blame Su Yu; he was just worried that Su Yu would dwell on these things and eventually drive himself into madness.

That wasn’t something he and Old Man Yang wanted to see.

Wang Jinhe sighed in relief, realizing that Su Yu had informed the elders about the rebirth matter.

Seeing that the elders had no intention of pursuing the matter further, she felt at ease.

“It’s okay for the children to come. With so many of us, we can certainly take care of two kids,” Yang Zhenwei waved his hand, not even considering the matter of Yang Jiapu.

“Grandpa is right. With so many of us, we can definitely take good care of the children.”

“You go and prepare. Since Su Yu has already sent a letter back, the young master should be returning soon.”

Wang Jinhe sighed in relief and went to prepare small items like clothes for the children.

Xiao Bao finished writing and came out to see Wang Jinhe busy making small clothes. Perplexed, he asked, “Mommy, why are you making small clothes? Brother and I can’t wear them.”

“Your Daddy is bringing the children from your Uncle Emperor’s family here to stay for a while. Mom needs to prepare things for them,” Wang Jinhe explained briefly to Xiao Bao.

After hearing this, Xiao Bao was still somewhat unhappy, “Why do they have to be brought here?”

Wang Jinhe didn’t treat Xiao Bao like a child and told him everything he needed to know, “Your little brother will be in danger following your Uncle Emperor. He will bring him here to stay for a while. When he learns enough skills and no one dares to talk about him, he will go back.”

Upon hearing that there were so many dangers around the little brother, Xiao Bao, surprised, said, “Then, Mommy, you better prepare a lot.”

“Why? Feeling jealous of your little brother?” Wang Jinhe looked at Xiao Bao with a teasing expression, smiling as she asked.

Wide-eyed, Xiao Bao retorted, ” Xiao Bao is not jealous.”

Wang Jinhe laughed but didn’t say anything. Typically, those who were jealous wouldn’t admit it.

“Alright, not jealous. Xiao Bao will soon be a big brother. You have to take care of your little brother just like how Xiao Zhi takes care of you, okay?” Wang Jinhe did some psychological preparation for the two children in advance. Seeing both children nodding earnestly, she felt relieved.

Wang Jinhe reached out and rubbed Xiao Bao’s head, “You are the most important treasure to Mommy and Daddy.”

Hearing Wang Jinhe’s words, Xiao Bao nodded shyly, “I’m going to play with my brother.”

Wang Jinhe watched the two children leave hand in hand with a smile in her eyes—these two little ones.

While Wang Jinhe and her family were preparing, Su Yu’s side had also made the necessary preparations.

After the Grand Minister of Justice resolved the issues concerning Su Qin and his wife, Su Yu did not inquire further and began preparations to return to Xie family Village.

Once the empress handled the departure of the child, she focused on dealing with Ling Gu. After several consecutive days of taking action against Ling Gui, even the most foolish person could tell that the empress and Ling Gui were at odds, and the empress seemed to be seeking Ling Gui’s life.

Returning to her own palace after the confrontations, Ling Gui vented her frustration by smashing a set of her favorite porcelain, trembling with anger.

That vile empress dared to take advantage of the emperor’s sentiments toward her and treat her with such disdain. Ling Gui was determined to make her pay. So what if she gave birth to a son? It seemed she needed to hasten her plans with her father.

When Su Yu left, both the emperor and the empress came secretly.

They looked at the child sleeping soundly in their arms, feeling a complex mix of emotions. However, for the safety of the child, they could only endure the reluctance and send the child away.

“After this, I’ll trouble you and Xiao He for the next few years,” the empress handed the child to Su Yu, who held the baby and said earnestly, “Rest assured, I’ll bring the child back every Chinese New Year.”

“Alright.”

Su Yu left with a considerable entourage, and the emperor and empress watched him go before finally departing themselves.

The child, once considered a substitute, was handed over to others by Su Yu after leaving the capital. He instructed them to take good care of the child.

With a nursing mother accompanying them, Su Yu’s progress was slow. It took him almost a month to reach home.

Seeing the house not far away, Su Yu reached out and touched the little one’s face, saying, “Hong Yi, we’re home. This is where you’ll be living for the next eight years.”

Eight years was sufficient time for Su Yu.

Carrying the child off the carriage and into the house, Wang Jinhe saw him return with a smile on his face. Walking over and looking at the child in his arms, she asked, “Is this the child mentioned in the letter?”

“Yes, it’s him. I’ll rely on you in the future,” Su Yu said to Wang Jinhe with a hint of helplessness in his eyes.

“What does it matter? With so many people at home, it’s evident that this child is easy to handle, accompanying you all the way here,” Wang Jinhe looked at the child sleeping peacefully in Su Yu’s arms, a smile in her eyes.

Su Yu lowered his head to look at Hong Yi. Indeed, this child was easy to handle; he wouldn’t cry except when hungry or needing a diaper change.

“With so many people at home, can’t they take care of one child?” Wang Jinhe saw that Su Yu was still somewhat self-blaming, reached out, and patted his shoulder, comforting him, “Right now, what you should be thinking about isn’t this child, but how to comfort your son when you go back.”

Su Yu’s eyes carried a smile. Yes, he still had a son to take care of.

“I miss my son.” Thinking of Xiao Bao, Su Yu put the child into Wang Jinhe’s arms and ran back, leaving Wang Jinhe staring at the sleeping child, feeling somewhat strange no matter how she looked at it.

This guy, Su Yu, was really unreliable.

Returning with the child, Su Yu saw Su Xi holding Xiao Bao, the two of them being affectionate on the side. As for Xiao Zhi, he didn’t participate at all; instead, he was in the room reading.

“Daddy, why did you only just come back? I missed you so much,” Xiao Bao asked unhappily with a pouted mouth.

“Daddy came back only after finishing things. Don’t worry, Daddy’s here now,” Su Yu held his son with satisfaction.

It would be even better if he could hold his wife, but now wasn’t the time.

When Xiao Bao and Su Yu were being affectionate, they saw Wang Jinhe holding a child in his arms. Curiously tilting his head, Xiao Bao asked, “Is this the little brother that Daddy brought back?”

“Yeah.”

Xiao Bao got off Su Yu’s lap and ran to Wang Jinhe, asking curiously, “Mommy, is little brother cute?”

Wang Jinhe sat in a chair and said, “Come over and see for yourself if the little brother is cute or not.”

Xiaobao hurriedly walked over and saw Hong Yi sleeping with joy in his eyes.
