Chapter 39: Zhao Sihai’s Unease
“No need,” Bai Ruojiao smiled, “My grandfather cleared his name long ago, but he’s still staying at the farm to help with construction. He doesn’t want to come back.”
Bai Ruojiao’s grandfather was named Liao Yunhe. After being framed and sent to the farm, he cleared his name through his own abilities.
Later, he joined the army and rose to the rank of division commander. Then, he suddenly chose to retire and went back to his old profession.
Now, he was the director of the First Military Hospital in Xinjiang Province.
Later, her grandfather retired and came back about two years later. But by then, she had already been sent abroad.
She saw him again four years later. At that time, he was re-employed and became colleagues with Qin Lao.
She had always risked her life to help her grandfather and grandmother in the labor camp, and it was partly because of her grandfather.
Zhao Sihai breathed a sigh of relief, then frowned again, “What about your cousin…”
Bai Ruojiao pulled his hand and played with it, a slight smile on her lips. “Don’t worry. I’ll settle the score with her slowly.”
Now that she was reborn, it was just right. She always felt that the suffering she had made Bai Yunyun’s family endure wasn’t enough in her previous life.
This time…
She chuckled.
Zhao Sihai knew that she already had a plan, so he didn’t ask anymore. He just said, “If you need me, just say the word.”
“Of course. You’re my husband. Who else would I ask for help?”
Hearing her words, Zhao Sihai’s heart felt warm, but also a little uneasy.
As for the rest of what he was thinking…
He looked at her and sat down on the other side.
Bai Ruojiao saw him flipping through the book, glancing at her from time to time.
His eyes were a clear indication.
She was amused by his awkward expression. “What else do you want to ask?”
Zhao Sihai could only speak with a hint of awkwardness and anxiety.
“Our marriage… did you tell your family?”
It was an expected question. Bai Ruojiao suppressed a smile and shook her head directly, “No.”
Zhao Sihai’s hand suddenly tightened, and his heart sank.
Seeing this, Bai Ruojiao didn’t tease him anymore.
She reached out and held his clenched fist. “If I tell them now, they’ll definitely come here. The transportation and communication are inconvenient, and my father’s position is special. Don’t let them cause any trouble.”
Zhao Sihai frowned, but his muscles slowly relaxed.
Bai Ruojiao looked at him, her lips curled into a smile. She added, “So, I want to find a chance to take you and An’an home later.”
Zhao Sihai was stunned. His muscles instantly tensed up, but his eyes lit up. “Us? Me and An’an?”
Bai Ruojiao laughed, “Who else would it be? Who else is there?”
Zhao Sihai felt his hand tighten around hers. “No, no. Just the three of us.”
Bai Ruojiao chuckled, pulled her hand back, and then tapped the pages of the book. “So, now that we have this, how confident are you?”
She didn’t really think that just having this book would guarantee success.
They had to try it to know.
If it really didn’t work, she would have to find a way to send a letter to her family.
But it wasn’t easy to explain. She couldn’t just say,
“Dad, don’t buy machine tools from R-country. They’re all refurbished scrap.”
Then, her father would suspect that something was wrong with her.
Zhao Sihai flipped to the textile machinery series and looked at a few pages. He pursed his lips.
“I still can’t guarantee anything. But if it’s just a repair, not replacing any parts or components that can’t be manufactured domestically, if you give me time, the possibility might be higher.”
Bai Ruojiao was surprised.
Zhao Sihai was always meticulous, always saying eight out of ten things.
Since he said so, it meant he was confident.
All that was left was to hope that the lathe didn’t need to replace any parts that couldn’t be made domestically.
Although she had a stockpile of high-tech materials from the system in her space, she couldn’t take them out at this time.
She had to think of an excuse beforehand, how to avoid the country becoming a sucker.
As she was thinking, she heard Zhao Sihai suddenly say, “Don’t worry, I’ll try my best to repair it in time. Even if we need to replace parts, buying parts is always cheaper than buying a whole machine.”
She looked up and saw the reassurance in his eyes. She smiled, “Thank you.”
Zhao Sihai smiled, “Why thank me? This is something I took on. If I have the ability, I have to do my best.”
Bai Ruojiao tilted her head slightly, “Actually, I hope you can fix it because I have a selfish reason.”
Zhao Sihai frowned and looked at her in confusion.
She sighed, “My father is the deputy minister of the Ministry of Finance. Right now, the country is in a situation where every penny counts. If we really have to buy a lathe, he’ll have a lot to worry about.”
Zhao Sihai’s expression changed slightly, “You’re saying your father-in-law is…”
He had known that her family background was not simple when he heard her say it before.
But he didn’t expect it to be so high.
Suddenly, the unease that he had just managed to suppress came back up.
Bai Ruojiao saw this and knew he was thinking wildly again.
She couldn’t help but laugh and pinch his tense cheek, “Don’t worry. My parents always respect my choices. They’re not the kind of people who would force their will on their children. I think as long as I’m happy, they shouldn’t have any objections.”
But Zhao Sihai’s heart couldn’t settle down. A rare sense of urgency surged through him.
He unconsciously tightened his fingers around the pages of the book.
Seeing that he was still uneasy, Bai Ruojiao couldn’t help him.
He probably wouldn’t be able to rest easy until he saw it with his own eyes.
She had wanted to tell him more about her family situation.
But it seemed like it was better to talk about it later. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to sleep.
But to lighten the mood, she added, “My parents should be fine. But I have two older sisters and a brother. They all spoil me, so…”
She smiled, full of implication, and with a hint of schadenfreude, “You know, and my eldest sister is also in the army. She always believes in action over words.”
Zhao Sihai laughed, took her hand, “I’m tough. As long as you don’t leave me, I’m fine with anything. And it’s only right to be beaten. After all, I stole their most beloved sister.”
Seeing the gentle smile in her eyes when she mentioned her siblings, he knew she was truly loved by her family.
Bai Ruojiao glanced at him, and with a haughty snort.
That sound stirred up the restless thoughts that Zhao Sihai had just suppressed.
Seeing her playful smile, his heart felt like it was being tickled by a feather.
His Adam’s apple bobbed involuntarily. He suddenly stood up.
Bai Ruojiao was startled. She instinctively looked up, but before she could see clearly, he picked her up by the waist.
“Hey? What are you doing?” She quickly reached out to wrap her arms around his neck.
But that action made Zhao Sihai’s heart even hotter.
His breath was like a hook, full of implication, “Qiaoqiao, there’s still some time before dinner. An’an isn’t here. I…”
Bai Ruojiao couldn’t help but understand. She widened her eyes in disbelief.
When did this guy become so unstable and unrestrained? He was just talking about business.
