“Big brother.” After eating and drinking his fill, Gu Xuanhao wiped his mouth, looking both satisfied and admiring as he gazed at Gu Xuanze. “When did you secretly learn to cook? I didn’t know your cooking skills were this good. If it weren’t for the fact that it’s already midnight and Chef Fang and the others are asleep, I’d have thought it was him who made this.”
Gu Xuanze didn’t respond. In fact, when he initially asked Ye Xing to find a way to invite Chef Fang to their house, he had a small plan. He had secretly learned a few things from Chef Fang with the idea that, maybe one day, he could surprise someone or make someone smile while eating the food he made. After all, that person was very picky about food.
“Ah Hao, do you think it tastes good?” Gu Xuanze asked.
“It’s delicious, really delicious.” Gu Xuanhao immediately turned into a sycophant, lavishly praising his brother’s cooking. “Big brother, your cooking could rival a five-star chef’s!”
“Then do you think Youze would like it?” Gu Xuanze asked flatly. He had indeed not wanted Ah Hao to know that he liked Lu Youze. After all, before losing his memory, Lu Youze hated him deeply, and his feelings had no hope whatsoever. Plus, at that time, Ah Hao and Lu Youze were still in a bit of conflict over Yu Li, so he didn’t want to risk affecting their already fragile relationship. But things were different now; Lu Youze’s amnesia was a turning point, and he needed some help. Right now, there was a perfect candidate sitting in front of him.
Hearing Gu Xuanze’s words, Gu Xuanhao became excited, like a fan hearing their ship become canon. He leaned closer to Gu Xuanze, looking very much like he was about to gossip. “Big brother, why do you care if Lu Youze likes you? Do you… have feelings for him?”
Gu Xuanhao made a “liking” gesture and flashed an ambiguous smile.
“I like him,” Gu Xuanze said, but then quickly furrowed his brows. His expression didn’t change, but his mood seemed to drop. “But clearly, he doesn’t feel the same way about me.”
Seeing Gu Xuanze like this, Gu Xuanhao actually calmed down. He sat back in his chair, his expression serious as he looked at Gu Xuanze.
He wanted his brother to be happy, but he couldn’t bring himself to harm his friend. Considering that Lu Youze had stayed up late just to chat with him, he couldn’t betray his friendship for his brother.
“Bro, are you really serious about Lu Youze?”
“Of course, I am,” Gu Xuanze replied. “Ah Hao, do you think I’d go through all this effort if I was just playing around? I even learned these dishes specifically from Chef Fang.”
When talking about the person he liked, Gu Xuanze’s expression remained unchanged. Fortunately, Gu Xuanhao understood that this was just the way his brother was; if anyone else had said it, they probably wouldn’t have believed it.
“Big brother, I’ll help you.” Gu Xuanhao stood up, resolutely patting his chest. “Don’t worry, you’re so amazing, and with me helping, Lu Youze would have to be blind not to like you.”
“It’s getting late, go to bed,” Gu Xuanze said, having gotten the answer he wanted, or perhaps feeling a bit shy, he quickly urged Gu Xuanhao to leave.
Gu Xuanze was about to clean up the table when he was startled by Gu Xuanhao’s sudden loud exclamation. He frowned disapprovingly, looking at Gu Xuanhao. “Ah Hao, everyone’s asleep. Don’t be so dramatic and wake them up.”
“Big brother, weren’t you worried that Lu Youze wouldn’t like these dishes you made?”
“What are you trying to do?” Gu Xuanze had a bad feeling. His brother was always the type to turn small things into big ones, always acting first.
“Well, if he likes them, he’ll just have to try them!” Gu Xuanhao became more and more convinced that his idea was great. He almost immediately picked up his phone to call Lu Youze.
As expected.
Looking at his idiotic younger brother, Gu Xuanze began to question his earlier decision. Could this clueless fool really be a good wingman?
“Ah Hao, do you know what time it is? Youze is probably asleep already, let’s not disturb him. There will always be a chance in the future.”
“He’s not asleep.” Gu Xuanhao was so excited he could hardly sit still. He couldn’t wait to lock both of them in a room together, doing who knows what. “I’ll drive over and pick him up. He can sleep at our place, and then tomorrow we can go to the set together. It’s no trouble at all.”
Seeing that Gu Xuanze was about to say something, Gu Xuanhao quickly interrupted him. “Big brother, who knows how long you’ll be at the set? You won’t have the chance to cook yourself. It’s better to take this chance before you leave and let him taste your cooking, win his favor. Look, it’s already past five, if I go get him now, by the time he arrives it’ll be morning, perfect for breakfast.”
Gu Xuanze hesitated a little; this was indeed tempting, but more than that, he was worried about Lu Youze’s health. Ensuring he got enough sleep was very important.
“Big brother, stop hesitating,” Gu Xuanhao said, already heading toward the door. “I’m going to pick him up now.”
Before Gu Xuanze could say anything, Gu Xuanhao’s figure had already disappeared.
Gu Xuanze didn’t call him back. He still had a little bit of hope in his heart. Looking at the food on the table, he thought for a moment, then decided to go back into the kitchen and make a couple more dishes. Ah Hao was right, he should take this chance to leave a good impression, even if he felt that calling someone over in the early morning for breakfast didn’t seem like the best way to win favor.
But the fact that he could make food for the person himself was already enough. In the past, he never even dared to think about it.
