Chapter 48
The storm raged on, rain pelting against the windows with relentless force. Lin Si swung his legs off the couch, pushing against the floor with his feet. “I… I’ll just sleep here.”
“The couch is too short for you,” Lu Wei pointed out.
Lin Si sat up and looked out the window. The rain was so dense that the outside world was nothing but a blur, droplets bursting against the glass like tiny, glistening fireworks.
“It’s fine. Just one night. If it gets too uncomfortable, I’ll go sleep in the dance studio next door.” Lin Si said.
Guangguang padded over and curled up at his feet before lying down completely. Lin Si picked up the cat and buried his face in its fur, rubbing it gently.
“If you don’t mind, you can sleep in my room.” Lu Wei said.
Lin Si’s hand froze mid-motion. Through the sound of the rain, he looked at Lu Wei.
The sleeves of Lu Wei’s dress shirt were rolled up to his forearms, the edges tucked in hastily, giving him a casual and rushed appearance, lacking his usual precision.
It was hard to read anything from Lu Wei’s face, but Lin Si could feel something different—something warm, something gentle. He was no longer the sharp-edged person who had once looked down on him.
“Do you feel awkward about the temporary mark?” Lin Si tried to ease the tension, “You don’t have to. I used to think it was embarrassing too, but Liao Ji was right—if we have a clear conscience, then it doesn’t matter.”
The ceiling light cast a shadow of Lu Wei onto the floor, its shape distorted and uncertain, much like his current expression.
“It’s not about the mark,” Lu Wei said. “I just want you to sleep in a bed tonight.”
The sound of the rain became a drumbeat, hammering against Lin Si’s chest. He tightened his arms around the cat. “Then where will you sleep?”
“The couch.” Lu Wei replied.
Lin Si frowned. “Then it’s the same thing—one of us still has to sleep on the couch.”
“I’ll take it.” Lu Wei said without hesitation.
Lin Si wasn’t sure why Lu Wei was being so insistent. It wasn’t like Omegas were that fragile compared to Alphas. He could handle sleeping on the couch.
“Really, it’s fine. I can sleep anywhere.” Lin Si said. “Back when I was doing commercial performances, I’d crash backstage, wherever I could find a spot. I’m not picky.”
Since Lin Si was firm about it, Lu Wei didn’t press further. He only asked, “Do you have extra pillows and blankets?”
Lin Si went back to his room and rummaged through his bedding. The only blanket left was a thin summer quilt. The typhoon had brought a damp chill, so he folded the quilt in half, making it barely enough to keep warm.
“This will do for now,” Lin Si clapped his hands together and got up, heading to the kitchen.
With the storm raging outside, ordering groceries wasn’t an option. Lin Si checked the fridge for whatever ingredients were left and decided on egg fried rice and vegetable soup. Knowing Lu Wei preferred something less plain, he pan-seared a chicken breast, finely chopped it, and mixed it into Lu Wei’s fried rice.
The television droned on in the background, discussing the unexpected typhoon and what message it might hold for humanity. In between the noise, Lin Si caught an expert talking about galaxies and planets.
“Are they reliable?” Lin Si asked.
Lu Wei glanced at the screen. “Not really. Mostly nonsense.”
On the TV, a meteorologist predicted, “The rain is expected to gradually subside the day after tomorrow as warm air flows back in…”
Lin Si perked up. The day after tomorrow!
If the weather cleared, he could reschedule his meeting with Y.
After dinner, he grabbed his clothes, lost in thought. Even as he made his way to the bathroom, he was still planning how to meet Y.
The hot water cascaded down, filling the air with steam. Lin Si thought to himself—when he finally met Y, if Y was okay with his identity and his job, maybe he could introduce him to Li Jicheng and see if Y’s pheromones had any effect on him.
The typhoon showed no sign of letting up. Even after Lin Si finished his shower, dried his hair, and lay down, the wind still howled outside. Fortunately, the windows were sturdy, keeping out any unsettling noises.
Lin Si lay curled up on the sofa, sending a message to Y.
Earlier, he had hurriedly urged Y to get home safely while sitting in the car. After receiving Y’s reply, he got busy dealing with his soaked bed and hadn’t had a chance to chat properly.
Lin Si: [What are you up to?]
Y replied instantly: [Reading emails.]
Lin Si: [Still working? Didn’t you say you were already home?]
Y: [Work still needs to be done. I don’t have much time lately.]
Lin Si: [Don’t overwork yourself. Health comes first!]
Lin Si: [Mwah~.jpg]
A soft “meow” sounded—“Y just kissed baby~!”
Lin Si grinned brightly. This was the first time Y had used that feature.
On the screen, two small animated balls stuck together for a kiss, wiggling back and forth as pink hearts floated up.
Lin Si: [Our intimacy level went up! They can kiss even longer now!]
Y: [Mhm.]
Lin Si flipped over onto his back, about to discuss their next meeting, when a deafening thunderclap suddenly roared outside. His heart jolted, and his phone nearly slipped from his hand.
Y: [Will you be able to sleep well tonight?]
Lin Si took a deep breath, trying to steady himself: [That thunder just now… I swear the ground shook.]
He glanced toward Lu Wei’s room, then called Y. When the call connected, he whispered, “Stay on the phone with me for a while. The rain’s too loud—I’m afraid I won’t be able to sleep.”
Y hummed in response, then fell silent for a few seconds before saying, “Once the rain stops, let’s meet.”
Lin Si beamed and snuggled into the sofa. “Okay!”
Y: “If I’m not the person you expect to see, will you be disappointed?”
Lin Si blinked. He recognized every word in that sentence, but somehow, put together, he couldn’t understand what Y meant.
“What do you mean, not the person I expect?” he asked.
Y: “If I turn out to be someone you don’t like, will you be upset?”
“You’re the one I like,” Lin Si said, feeling an inexplicable nervousness. “I like you. Who said I wouldn’t?” His heart clenched. “Don’t say things that make me anxious. I’m already nervous about our meeting.”
“…Sorry.” Y’s apology was sincere. Lin Si immediately felt guilty for snapping, and hurriedly reassured him, “Let’s talk about it when we meet, okay? I have a lot to say too, and the phone isn’t the best place for it.”
“…Alright.”
Lin Si let out a relieved breath. His heartbeat steadied, and drowsiness crept in. He yawned. “I’m getting sleepy. I think I’ll go to bed.”
“Sleep,” Y said softly. “Goodnight.”
For someone as tall as Lin Si—nearly 1.8 meters—the sofa was too small. He curled onto his side, tucking his legs in. “Don’t hang up, okay? The wind is too strong. I keep worrying the glass windows at my feet will shatter. It’s making me a little scared.”
“Go to sleep. I’m here.” Y’s voice was soothing.
Lin Si closed his eyes. “Goodnight.”
The typhoon showed no sign of weakening. As the night deepened, the storm outside grew fiercer. Lu Wei glanced at the time—Lin Si had been asleep for forty-seven minutes.
Setting his phone down, Lu Wei stepped silently into the living room.
Lin Si had squeezed himself into the narrow space of the sofa. His legs were too long, forcing him to curl up uncomfortably.
A forked bolt of violet lightning split the sky outside. As soon as the thunder rumbled, Lin Si furrowed his brows in his sleep. Lu Wei crouched beside him, gently smoothing out the crease between his brows with his fingers.
Lin Si shifted restlessly, rolling over. His earphones slipped out, and Lu Wei reached to catch them, his arm instinctively blocking Lin Si’s shoulder to keep him from falling off the sofa.
After a while, the torrential downpour outside softened to a steady drizzle. Lu Wei waited until Lin Si’s breathing evened out, then bent his arm, which had been acting as a makeshift barrier. With just a slight nudge, he pulled Lin Si into his embrace.
The transition from the sofa to being lifted into the air was cushioned enough that Lin Si didn’t wake immediately. He merely frowned, his arm twitching slightly in discomfort.
Lu Wei halted, waiting for him to settle back into sleep.
A small, dark figure trotted over, its tiny head tilting up to look at Lu Wei and the boy in his arms.
The cat bit down on Lu Wei’s slipper.
Lu Wei had originally intended to glance at Guangguang, but his gaze instead landed on Lin Si’s fair, slender ankle and the delicate arch of his foot.
He knew that aside from Lin Si’s face, fans loved to fawn over his hands and ankles. To them, Lin Si was the embodiment of human perfection—silent, reserved, but impossibly beautiful.
In the past, Lu Wei had thought those fans were ridiculous, unable to see through Lin Si’s facade. But now, at this very moment, he realized—more than anyone in the world—he wanted to kiss every inch of the perfection that Lin Si had been blessed with.
He glanced at Guangguang one last time before carrying Lin Si into his bedroom.
The bed was already prepared, blankets turned down neatly. Lu Wei laid Lin Si onto the mattress, ensuring his head rested against his pillow. The moment Lin Si’s body touched the soft fabric, he instinctively relaxed, stretching out his arms and shoulders in comfort.
Lu Wei pulled the blanket over him, then went back to the living room to retrieve Lin Si’s thin quilt for himself. He lay down on the other side of the bed.
Guangguang waddled over, stepping onto Lu Wei’s legs before settling itself comfortably between them.
The bed was large enough that, even with Guangguang nestled between them, there was still space for two more people to sleep side by side.
If someone were to witness this scene from an outsider’s perspective, they might think it looked exactly like a pair of parents who had just had a fight—while a small child trembled in the middle, caught in the tension.
Lu Wei shifted, circling an arm around Guangguang, pulling it lower so that he could easily glance over and see Lin Si’s face.
He wanted to feel his presence, as if, in this moment, Lin Si truly belonged to him.
It was a stormy and restless night, yet it was also the most peaceful night between them.
Morning light seeped in from the bottom of the curtains, scattering across the marble floor. Lin Si was woken up by Guangguang stepping on his face.
He had a terrible habit of waking up—especially when disturbed, which put him in an even worse mood. Frowning, he refused to open his eyes, letting out a few grumbles before finally giving in and pushing Guangguang, who was still stomping on his arm, to the side.
But not even a second later, Guangguang came back, rubbing against his face. This time, however, it was quickly picked up by someone—someone who accidentally brushed against Lin Si’s collarbone.
Lin Si jolted awake completely. With a sigh, he rubbed his eyes, his vision still adjusting. At first, nothing felt out of place, but as his gaze lowered and he took in the cool gray furnishings around him, his still-groggy mind finally started functioning.
The mattress on his left dipped slightly. Lin Si immediately turned his head and saw Lu Wei sitting up, holding Guangguang in his arms.
Lu Wei!
Why was he in Lu Wei’s room?!
“Me?” Lin Si pointed at himself. “Why am I here?”
Lu Wei had just woken up as well, his voice carrying a husky, sleep-laden rasp. “The wind was too strong last night. The sofa is too close to the windows, and I was worried the glass might break and fall on you, so I let you sleep here.”
Lin Si silently complained in his head—You own a real estate company, and yet you don’t even trust your own windows?!
“…Then how did I get here?” Lin Si asked.
Lu Yan’s lips curved slightly—so faint it was barely noticeable—but his voice remained composed and proper. “I carried you over.”
Lin Si instantly felt embarrassed. “…You could’ve just woken me up.”
“I tried. You didn’t wake up,” Lu Wei replied.
“….” Okay, that’s on me, Lin Si thought.
But oddly enough, he didn’t feel uncomfortable about sharing a bed with Lu Wei. Probably because there was so much space between them—it was like sleeping on two single beds pushed together.
He thanked Lu Wei and then added, “I’ll remind the housekeeper to wash your sheets and bedding once she arrives.”
Lu Wei stared at him for a moment. He suddenly realized that Lin Si’s sense of romance was even more lacking than his own. In fact, he was practically the amoeba of the dating world—completely oblivious to subtle hints and affectionate gestures. But when he pursued love himself, he charged forward recklessly, with a kind of fierce and unwavering determination.
There was something inexplicably adorable about that.
Lin Si climbed out of Lu Wei’s bed on his own, his loose collar slipping slightly to reveal his delicate collarbone. He ruffled his own hair and said, “Should I just wash your sheets too? Mine need washing anyway. If you don’t mind, we can throw them in together.”
“No need. I don’t mind,” Lu Wei replied.
Lin Si absentmindedly tugged at his hair, wondering if Lu Wei’s attitude had changed because of the temporary marking. Otherwise, why would he suddenly not care about sharing his bed?
“I’ll go brush my teeth and wash my face first,” Lin Si said.
“Okay.”
Still a little groggy from sleep, Lin Si went about his morning routine, chatting with Y for a bit before breakfast. After eating, he settled down with his script, diving into writing character backstories.
Surprisingly, the weather forecast—previously dismissed by Lu Wei as “mostly nonsense”—was accurate for once. Lin Si spent the entire day on a call with Lin Zisong discussing the script, and by the next morning, the skies had cleared.
He woke up once again in Lu Wei’s bed.
The second time felt far less awkward. They had both slept on the outer edges of the bed, with a cat nestled safely between them. In Lin Si’s mind, that was as innocent as it could possibly get—so why torture himself by sleeping on the sofa?
Last night, he had arranged to meet Y at 10 a.m. today at the North City Museum, in front of a painting by Qi Baishi in Hall B.
Lin Si carefully applied a scent-blocking patch to suppress his pheromones, put on a low-profile black hoodie and a black baseball jacket, then covered his face with a mask before sneaking out like a guilty suspect.
