Chapter 84: Bai Shaofeng’s Confession
Bai Juntao gritted his teeth, wiped away his tears, took a deep breath, and tried to calm himself down.
“Dad, it’s been five years now, hasn’t there been any progress? When will my sister be able to come back? And is her safety guaranteed?”
They knew that they couldn’t interfere with national security matters, even their grandfather couldn’t.
But their father wouldn’t just sit back and watch their sister suffer so much, watch her… get married.
Thinking about this, his eyes turned cold again.
“And what about Zhao Sihai, the one who married my sister?”
There was too much information, five years’ worth of daily records, and they had only read half of it, many things they didn’t fully understand.
They only knew that their sister was forced to marry Zhao Sihai, and they didn’t know how their relationship was now.
But just thinking about how Zhao Sihai had been away from home all these years, leaving his sister and child to be bullied by his family, a surge of anger rose up in his heart.
Even though he knew that the other party was away from home, just like his older sister, doing things for the country.
But he couldn’t help but be angry.
He was angry at Zhao Sihai’s irresponsibility, and he was also angry at his own incompetence as an older brother.
This misplaced anger made him feel even more embarrassed and uncomfortable.
Hearing his son mention this, Liao Shiyun also remembered, she immediately stood up and looked down at her husband.
“I can ignore other things for now, but this is about Qiao Qiao’s whole life, you have to tell me the truth, don’t hide anything!”
Thinking about her daughter suffering in such a remote and backward place, and having a child, her heart ached.
She now wished she could fly to her daughter’s side immediately and make up for all the neglect and care over the years.
But thinking about how her daughter might hate her more than she imagined, her heart felt like it had a hole in it, and the hatred in her eyes grew stronger.
“And what role did your second brother’s family play in all this? What about Bai Yunyun’s letters all these years? And… what about the Bai Ru Qiao in Binshi County?”
Bai Shaofeng took a deep breath.
He reached out to pull her down to sit.
But she slapped his hand away.
Bai Juntao, very perceptive, pulled over an office chair.
After his mother sat down, he stood behind her, also staring at his father.
Bai Ruoyan also walked over and stood on the other side.
Six pairs of eyes stared at him, giving off a sense of a three-way interrogation.
Bai Shaofeng sighed, he had already said the most important things, and he didn’t intend to hide anything else.
“When Qiao Qiao went to the countryside, it was Binshi County, but it was secretly changed to Qingyang County in An Province. To cover up the truth and prevent us from going to investigate, they arranged a fake to take her place.”
Bai Juntao furrowed his brow, “If my sister isn’t in Binshi County, then the letters sent back…”
“They were all fake, your second brother and his family were indeed involved, but they were truly unaware, they were used by those people. Of course, I’m not trying to excuse them, once they are caught, they will be punished accordingly.”
Seeing his wife’s face darken, Bai Shaofeng quickly explained.
The things his second brother had done, plus his little actions over the years, had already worn away the little brotherly love they had.
Even for his daughter, he couldn’t forgive that whole family.
He continued, “To prevent us from discovering that Qiao Qiao’s destination had been changed, they directly controlled the post offices in those areas and instructed Bai Yunyun to imitate Qiao Qiao’s handwriting to write a suicide note, threatening that if we went to find her, she would kill herself, to prevent us from looking for her.”
Hearing this, the three of them clenched their fists tightly. Bai Ruoyan’s eyes were full of ferocity, her lips moved slightly, silently reciting Bai Yunyun’s name.
“Bai Yunyun wrote many letters to provoke us, so that Qiao Qiao wouldn’t look for us. During that time, the letters Qiao Qiao sent back were destroyed by Bai Yunyun, so… now, in Qiao Qiao’s heart, we have completely abandoned her, and she has cut off all ties with us.”
As he spoke, Bai Shaofeng’s voice became hoarse, his throat choked.
Although he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he had carefully read the records of every day for all these years.
He watched helplessly as his most beloved daughter went from disappointment and resentment to despair, and finally to indifference.
That final emotional shift made him understand that his daughter had completely given up on them, and she might not even want to be a stranger to them anymore.
Liao Shiyun slumped back in her chair, her hand supporting her forehead, she shook her head gently, and her suppressed sobs started again.
Bai Juntao and Bai Ruoyan couldn’t help but bite their tongues, just imagining it, they could clearly feel that suffocating despair and pain.
Bai Shaofeng paused, then let out a sigh and changed the subject.
“But the marriage isn’t too bad. Although the Zhao family’s character isn’t good, Zhao Sihai is a good person. He used to work in the Ministry of National Defense, and he’s very capable. He originally had the opportunity to rise, but he chose to retire, partly because of Qiao Qiao and An An.”
Liao Shiyun paused, raising her head, “An An, is that the child?”
Thinking about the description of the child in the report, Bai Shaofeng’s eyes softened unconsciously, “Yes, he’s a very well-behaved and cute child, but he was premature, so he’s a bit weak and often gets sick.”
His fingernails dug into his palm, Bai Shaofeng smiled, but his eyes were bloodshot.
When she heard about the premature birth, Liao Shiyun’s face turned pale again, she unconsciously clutched at her chest, feeling a suffocating pain.
Bai Ruoyan hugged her mother, clenching her fist tightly, “Why was he premature?”
“It was because of the Zhao family…”
“I don’t agree with them being together, no matter what Zhao Sihai is like, with a family like that, he doesn’t deserve to be with Qiao Qiao. Those who bullied Qiao Qiao, I won’t let any of them go!”
Liao Shiyun’s eyes were red.
In those records, the Zhao family appeared most often, and it was all about their bullying of her daughter.
Bai Shaofeng sighed, “I’m afraid we don’t have the right to interfere, and Qiao Qiao seems to have feelings for him. Besides, Zhao Sihai is a man of courage and responsibility, he came back and immediately separated from his family, and now he lives in the county town.”
Liao Shiyun’s eyes dimmed completely, leaving only bitterness and loneliness.
Yes, Qiao Qiao hated them now, what right did they have to interfere in her life?
The room fell into a suffocating silence.
Everyone’s heart felt like it was being silently tortured.
After a while, Bai Ruoyan said in a hoarse voice, “Dad, I want to go see my sister…”
“No.” Bai Shaofeng raised his hand and forcefully pinched his brow, he didn’t even think before rejecting her.
When she was about to speak again, he said coldly, “If you want your sister’s suffering all these years to be in vain, then go.”
Hearing this, Bai Juntao, who was about to speak, closed his mouth, both unwilling and helpless.
Liao Shiyun took a deep breath, “I want to know, when will my daughter be completely out of danger? It’s been five years, are they all just eating for free?”
“I gave Zhao Cheng a deadline, if it doesn’t work by the end of the year, I will use my own methods, no matter what, I will rescue Qiao Qiao.”
The three of them were stunned.
Liao Shiyun unconsciously clutched at her clothes, “You, what are you going to do?”
