After the meal, everyone was stuffed. Wang Jinhe was fine, but the two younger ones lay on the chairs without moving.
Wang Jinhe glared at the two kids and said, “You’re already full, why force yourselves?”
“Mommy’s cooking is too delicious,” Xiao Bao said embarrassedly.
Moreover, Mommy made so many delicious dishes today; they naturally wanted to eat more.
Wang Jinhe’s mouth twitched, and she didn’t feel like talking to the two kids.
Although she was angry, Wang Jinhe still went to make some digestive tea for everyone.
Soon, the day for the celebration arrived. The servants had cleaned the house thoroughly, and everyone was in high spirits.
On the day the young master passed the civil examination, the young miss gave them five hundred coins each in red envelopes.
While everyone was busy, they heard a knock on the door.
The bustling family turned to look at the door, wondering, “Who would come to our house so early?”
As Wang Jinhe walked to the door and opened it, her good mood vanished when she saw who was outside.
Just as Wang Jinhe was about to close the door, the person outside wedged their foot in to prevent her from shutting it.
“Xiao He, I know I was wrong. Can you forgive me?” The person outside pushed against the door anxiously.
The visitor was none other than Wu Xinlin, who had abandoned the original owner of the body before.
When Wang Jingyu passed the examination for a student scholar and secured the top spot for the scholar, Wu Xinlin knew that his only chance to pass the imperial examination relied on Wang Jingyu. Therefore, his only opportunity was to seek forgiveness from Wang Jinhe, especially after learning that Su Yu was not present. He came early in the morning, hoping that Wang Jinhe would forgive him.
“I don’t care if you’re married or have a son. Just say the word, and I can take you away,” pleaded Wu Xinlin, looking at Wang Jinhe earnestly.
Wang Jinhe stared at Wu Xinlin as if he were a strange creature. Where did this confidence come from to say such things?
“Wu Xinlin, you are both ordinary and overly confident. Roll back away from my doorstep as far as you can. You are not welcome here,” Wang Jinhe said with a cold expression.
“I really like you, and you…”
“Who’s here, Xiao He?” Wang Jingyu walked over and asked.
With his sister not returning for a while and not letting the guest inside, Wang Jingyu came to check.
“It’s Wu Xinlin. He’s saying he regrets and likes me. He also mentioned not minding if I’m married with a child. He even talked about taking me away. Is there something wrong with his brain?” Wang Jinhe pointed to her head, asking with disgust.
Wang Jingyu’s gaze turned slightly cold, looking at Wu Xinlin with anger. “Xiao He, I’ll handle this matter. Go back inside.”
“Okay.” With Wang Jingyu taking care of this person, Wang Jinhe naturally felt relieved. She walked back with her hands behind her back.
Wu Xinlin wanted to say something to stop Wang Jinhe, but before he could, Wang Jingyu had already grabbed his collar and fiercely punched him.
“Wu Xinlin, haven’t I told you not to harass my sister?” This time, Wang Jingyu was truly angry.
Wu Xinlin valued himself too highly. Trying to compete with Su Yu for Xiao He—he should be grateful that Su Yu wasn’t here; otherwise, he would have deserved whatever beating he got.
“If they value each other for their wealth, just marry off Xiao He. She won’t be happy or fulfilled with him.” Only he could bring happiness to Wang Jinhe; everyone else would only hurt her.
Why couldn’t Wang Jingyu understand?
Hearing this, Wang Jingyu couldn’t help but laugh. It seemed that his sister was right—ordinary-looking with extraordinary confidence.
“Wu Xinlin, for the sake of our past friendship, I won’t hold it against you if you leave now. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being ruthless,” Wang Jingyu said. He still had to study at the academy, and they would frequently encounter each other. He didn’t want to escalate the situation too much.
“Since you know we were classmates, why would you help that man? What benefit did he give you?” Wu Xinlin stared at Wang Jingyu and questioned.
This statement made Wang Jingyu realize that this person’s mind was not in the right place.
“Qi Feng, give him a good beating and throw him out. As far as possible,” Wang Jingyu ordered, not wanting to engage with Wu Xinlin any further.
“Yes.”
Qi Feng’s punches were effective and direct, more than enough to deal with a scholar like Wu Xinlin. After the beating, Qi Feng tossed him outside. Looking at Wu Xinlin’s miserable appearance, Qi Feng mocked, “Trying to steal our young master’s wife? Are you tired of living?”
Madam usually exchanged a few words with them, and the young master would get jealous. Now, someone dared to come and directly compete for the young master’s wife. This person must have grown tired of living, especially since the young master wasn’t at home.
Wu Xinlin wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, stood up, and declared, “I won’t give up.”
He wanted an official career, he could only rely on Wang Jingyu. He wouldn’t let himself lose this opportunity.
“Wang Jingyu, what is this person really here for?” Wang Jinhe looked at Wang Jingyu, expressing her dislike for Wu Xinlin. Every encounter with him felt like trying to shake off sticky candy.
“Seeing that I topped the list in the scholar exam, he probably has ideas about me, wanting me to help him in the imperial examination,” Wang Jingyu replied, easily guessing Wu Xinlin’s intentions.
“When you were at the academy, did Wu Xinlin often come to bother you?” Wang Jinhe frowned and asked.
“He didn’t bother me too much, just said some things about wanting to be brothers. Does he think I’m that kind of person? Bullying my sister and still wanting to be my brother, expecting me to help him? Simply naive,” Wang Jingyu scoffed.
Wang Jinhe was surprised by Wu Xinlin’s shamelessness. “It’s been several years since he last passed the imperial examination. Does his family have the money to support him?”
Studying required a significant amount of money, and Wang Jinhe wondered how Wu Xinlin’s family managed to afford it.
“I’m not sure about that. I haven’t really thought about it,” Wang Jingyu said, furrowing his brows.
“Wu Xinlin should have been advised to leave the academy long ago, but he has stayed. What could be the reason for that?” Wang Jinhui pondered.
“Let me look into this matter,” Wang Jingyu suggested. He didn’t want to be put in a disadvantageous situation later because of this person. That wasn’t what he wanted.
“Sure, let me know when you have any updates.” Currently, they were using people connected to Su Yu, so it wasn’t suitable for him to directly inquire.
“Big brother, rest assured. Also, be careful at the academy. Don’t let others take advantage of you,” Wang Jinhe advised, expressing her concern.
Wang Jingyu looked at his worried sister and wondered where he had given her the impression that he was easy to bully.
“Xiao He, your brother isn’t that fragile. I’m not that easy to be manipulated,” he reassured.
“I just feel that Wu Xinlin is unscrupulous. If he can’t get any benefits from us, he’ll surely resort to other means. Regardless, big brother, please be careful,” Wang Jinhui expressed her concerns about Wu Xinlin resorting to underhanded methods.
Wang Jingyu nodded with a smile, “Alright, I’ll listen to you. You can relax now, okay?”
