Chapter 9: Old Lady SunĀ
The next day, Ji Xiaoyue and her family had just gotten up when people came to their house to inquire about what happened last night.
Ji Xiaoyue immediately brought out the broad beans her aunt had dried, poured them water, and told them about what they saw at the warehouse last night.
So, under Ji Xiaoyue’s vivid description, the whole village knew about the exciting process of Old Lady Sun and Old Man Wang being caught in the act.
It was said that Aunt Wang packed her things and went back to her parents’ house the next day, and Old Man Wang, either because he was ashamed or because he was afraid that his wife would really run away, immediately chased after her to her parents’ house.
Only Old Lady Sun was lying in bed, covered in injuries.
The villagers who came to watch the fun all maliciously told Sun Erqiang to find a barefoot doctor to treat his mother, saying that she was old and shouldn’t let her injuries worsen.
Sun Erqiang was so embarrassed that he didn’t dare to go out.
His precious son, Abao, was also pointed at and scolded by the children in the village: “Fatty from the slut’s family.”
He cried and went back to scold Old Lady Sun, “Grandma, why did you have an affair? Now no one wants to play with me, they make fun of me, what should I do?”
Old Lady Sun was furious, knowing that it was Ji Xiaoyue’s fault, she had Abao get a stick and went to question Ji Xiaoyue.
When Old Lady Sun arrived, Ji Xiaoyue had just sent off a group of aunties who came to inquire.
She saw Old Lady Sun and smiled, “Grandma, your body is quite strong. You can get out of bed after being beaten like that. You’d better stop having affairs, or you won’t stop until you’re beaten to death.”
Old Lady Sun gritted her teeth and pointed at Ji Xiaoyue, cursing, “You little slut, you were the one who snitched, weren’t you? I’m like this because of you, right?”
Ji Xiaoyue sneered, “You had an affair with half the village’s old men, if you don’t want people to know, you shouldn’t do it. But, Grandma, you’re old, you should take it easy, your body can’t withstand being beaten so many times.”
Old Lady Sun coughed uncontrollably in anger.
She wanted to call Abao, but her good, filial grandson had already run away.
“Ji Xiaoyue, I’ve fed you well all these years, and I even helped you get into college, this is how you repay me?” Old Lady Sun gritted her teeth.
Ji Xiaoyue burst out laughing, “The food I eat and the clothes I wear come from my uncle and aunt’s hard-earned money.
When I was five years old, you wanted to get rid of me, this burden, so you pushed me into the river by the mountain in the middle of winter when it was below zero.
When I was eight years old, you asked for Old Man Wang, the one you had an affair with last night, to take advantage of me.
When I was twelve, you took advantage of my aunt and uncle going out and sold me to Wang Mazui, who had a disease, in the next village.
When I was sixteen, for your son to get married, you tied me to the bed and let five old men sleep with me!”
Ji Xiaoyue wasn’t attacking indiscriminately.
It was Old Man Wang who almost molested the original Ji Xiaoyue, so she chose to catch the old woman and Old Man Wang in the act when they were having an affair.
Ji Xiaoyue’s parents knew all along that she was their real daughter, but they never came to take her away, they just gave her a few yuan a month for living expenses.
This old woman didn’t kick her out because of those few yuan.
But over the years, she had tormented Ji Xiaoyue in countless ways.
“Ji Xiaoyue, why don’t your parents want you? You’re a slut. Your parents don’t want you, who can you blame?” Old Lady Sun sneered viciously, “They’d rather raise someone else’s good-for-nothing than their own, you see how lowly and worthless you are.”
Ji Xiaoyue didn’t get angry, she smiled at her, “Oh, Grandma, it seems like Aunt Wang didn’t beat you hard enough last night.
I have to go tell Aunt Hong, Aunt Li, and Aunt Liu, their husbands have also rolled in the haystack with you, I’ve seen it with my own eyes.”
Old Lady Sun’s face flushed red when she heard this, and she gritted her teeth, “You little slut, you dare to talk nonsense.”
Ji Xiaoyue raised an eyebrow and asked her, “Do you know if I’m talking nonsense or not?”
Old Lady Sun looked at Ji Xiaoyue’s arrogant sneer and was a little scared.
Because the men of those people she mentioned were all involved with her.
She had been a widow for many years, and her son was getting married, she couldn’t afford to get money from men without having affairs, where would she get so much money?
“Grandma, you’d better come to our place less often. We’ve already split the family. If you come, I can’t help but expose your dirty secrets.
Every time you come, I’ll expose some. And about your son, Sun Erqiang, and Liu Widow. How much money did your daughter-in-law cost to marry?
If this gets out, your daughter-in-law will be gone, and your grandson might be taken away. You’ll have to sleep with them again.
Before, you had my uncle, the sucker, to make money for you, but now he’s gone, I wonder how many times you’ll have to sleep with them to get another wife.”
Every word Ji Xiaoyue said stabbed Old Lady Sun in the heart. But every word was true.
Old Lady Sun cared about her reputation, she stamped her foot, turned around, and walked away shakily.
Ji Xiaoyue clapped her hands and went inside.
Sun Dahua finally dared to come out, “Xiaoyue, we’ve really offended Grandma, she’s going to come and make trouble again.”
Ji Xiaoyue took a deep breath and said to Sun Dahua, “Cousin, we don’t start trouble, but we can’t be bullied either. After this incident, she’ll calm down.”
After dealing with Old Lady Sun, it was Sun Erqiang’s turn.
When Liu Widow came to their door, they would be too busy dealing with their own affairs to come and provoke them.
…
In the afternoon, Ji Xiaoyue went to the county town and bought some vegetables, pig heads, and pig offal.
They had planted some in their own field, and she bought some more, the pig offal was bought from the pig farm in the county town, half-sold and half-given.
She carried them back home, blanched them,
Then she made a sauce and mixed it with the pig head and pig offal.
She gave Sun Dahua a taste.
“Cousin, this is delicious!” Sun Dahua ate several bites, “Where did you learn this?”
Ji Xiaoyue smiled mysteriously at her, “A god told me. He said this is the secret to our wealth.”
Sun Dahua didn’t ask further, but instead held Ji Xiaoyue’s hand and said, “Xiaoyue, you used to be even more timid than me, you didn’t dare to say anything.
You were taken back to the Ji family for three months, and when you came back, you were completely different.”
Ji Xiaoyue turned her head and asked her, “Then do you like me better before or now?”
Sun Dahua grinned, “Of course I like you now. I want to be like you, getting better and better.”
She said, hesitating for a moment, and pulled Ji Xiaoyue, “Xiaoyue, I want to go to school too, can I?”
Ji Xiaoyue’s eyes lit up when she heard this, “Of course! We’ll catch up slowly, you can go to college then.”
She said, holding Sun Dahua’s hand, and said seriously, “Cousin, education changes destiny. The only ones who can change us are ourselves. Men are not our reliance, the only ones we can rely on are ourselves.”
Sun Dahua nodded vigorously, “Okay!”
Ji Xiaoyue held Sun Dahua’s hand and said softly, “I’m going to check on the uncles and grandfathers in the bullpen over there, and when I come back, I’ll organize my books for you.”
Sun Dahua nodded again, “Okay! Are they going back to the city?”
Ji Xiaoyue nodded, “They were all big shots, they’ll go back sooner or later.
They are all talents of the country, their downfall is only temporary, I’ll send them some cold dishes and pig head meat.”
“Okay!”
