“Jiang Tiantian, you shameless wretch!”
“I’m going to kill you!”
Jiang Hongmei suddenly erupted in fury, screaming as she charged toward the people behind Cha Jiuzhang.
It turned out that Jiang Tiantian had silently slipped out of the bridal chamber and was now standing under the eaves, watching the drama unfold.
Seeing Jiang Tiantian’s face without the thick bangs covering it, revealing an even more alluring and captivating charm, Jiang Hongmei felt a surge of jealousy.
Had she been spoiled by a man?
She really was a shameless woman.
In fact, after secretly seeing Cha Jiuzhang’s appearance yesterday, Jiang Hongmei had felt a little regret. Who had told her that he was rough, bulky, and unattractive?
In all her years, she had never seen such a handsome man.
But Du Yulan had quickly talked her out of it:
“Are you stupid? What’s the use of a man being handsome? Without any prospects, he’ll be stuck in this remote mountain village for life.”
“With your conditions, you can totally find someone well-matched in the provincial city and live a life of comfort and prestige.”
“Do you really want to stay here, working the land under the scorching sun, never being able to shop, watch movies, or dance again? Are you sure you can live like that?”
Jiang Hongmei’s brief regret disappeared instantly.
Her mother was right.
No matter how good-looking Cha Jiuzhang was, she could never accept spending the rest of her life in this isolated village, living in hardship.
Even going to the nearest town would take half a day.
That made her even more determined to leave Jiang Tiantian behind.
As long as she was sent into the bridal chamber and everything was set in stone, Grandpa wouldn’t have anything to say.
The Cha family would still get a bride, whether it was her or Jiang Tiantian. Either way, they were both daughters of the Jiang family, so they wouldn’t object.
However, she couldn’t let Jiang Tiantian have it easy.
Today, she was going to completely ruin Jiang Tiantian’s reputation so that even if she stayed in this poor village, she wouldn’t have a peaceful life.
Jiang Hongmei charged at Jiang Tiantian, gritting her teeth as she raised her hand, swinging it with full force. She even made sure to show off her sharp nails, hoping to scratch that little vixen’s face.
Cha Jiuzhang had just reacted, but it was too late to stop her—the slap was about to land on Jiang Tiantian’s face.
But in the next second, a small hand firmly caught Jiang Hongmei’s wrist.
Jiang Tiantian stood straight, looking down at Jiang Hongmei with an icy gaze.
“Playing the victim while being the culprit? And you think you’re in the right?”
“Who was it that drugged me with sleeping pills last night?”
Her voice was soft and delicate, completely lacking any intimidation.
Jiang Tiantian rolled her eyes. If there was one thing she disliked about this body, it was the voice—too weak, no authority at all.
Forget it. If words wouldn’t do, she’d let her hands do the talking.
She flung Jiang Hongmei’s arm aside and immediately swung her own hand in return.
Slap!
A loud smack echoed as Jiang Hongmei’s face turned bright red from the impact.
Jiang Tiantian shook her hand, admiring her work with satisfaction before exhaling in relief.
That felt good.
Damn, she had wanted to do this countless times while watching Jiang Hongmei bully Jiang Tiantian in her dreams.
Jiang Hongmei was completely stunned.
Since childhood, she had always been the one bullying Jiang Tiantian. When did this girl dare to fight back?
Du Yulan, seeing her beloved eldest daughter being slapped, shrieked and lunged at Jiang Tiantian.
She slapped at her while cursing:
“You little wench!”
“After doing such a shameless thing, you still dare to hit your sister?”
“This is outrageous!”
“I should’ve never given birth to you! Watch me beat you to death today!”
But Jiang Tiantian was no longer the old Jiang Tiantian.
In the past, every time Du Yulan beat her, she would lower her head, not resisting at all.
This time, she grabbed Jiang Hongmei’s arm and used her as a shield, dodging left and right.
As a result, Jiang Hongmei ended up taking several hard slaps, yelping in pain, while Du Yulan panted from exhaustion.
“Ow! Mom, stop! You’re hitting me!”
Jiang Hongmei struggled to break free, but her strength was nothing compared to Jiang Tiantian’s, who had been doing housework her whole life.
—
Ignoring the chaos in the courtyard, two elderly women standing at the entrance had already begun whispering.
Compared to the full-scale fights they were used to, this little spat was nothing.
“If I had to pick a daughter-in-law, I’d choose the younger one.”
“Me too. Look at her—she’s taller than her sister, more developed, with a great figure. Look at those hips—she’s definitely good for childbirth.”
“Exactly. The older one is short and skinny, doesn’t look lucky at all.”
Others who overheard their conversation started to notice as well—Jiang Tiantian really was half a head taller than Jiang Hongmei and had a more mature figure.
That was awkward.
If they didn’t look at their faces, just judging by their height and build, anyone would mistake the younger sister for the older one.
People began murmuring among themselves.
“Did they mix up the bride last night?”
“Wait, who took the bride into the room?”
“Not us. As soon as their car arrived, those three rushed straight into the bridal chamber. I didn’t even get a clear look at them, just remember both sisters were dressed festively.”
“We wanted to see the bride yesterday, but her mother blocked the door, saying she was carsick and needed to rest.”
“Yeah, yeah. Even when Cha Jiuzhang’s family wanted to greet her, they were turned away, saying she wanted to keep the mystery alive for the wedding night. I thought, wow, city people sure have strange customs.”
“But this doesn’t make sense. How could the older sister not realize the mistake until now? She spent the whole night somewhere else?”
“Shh, didn’t you hear? The younger sister said she was drugged last night.”
“I think the older sister just didn’t want to get married and tricked her into it.”
“Cha Jiuzhang is so handsome, and she still didn’t want him? She must have really high standards.”
“Shh, she’s from the city…”
—
While the villagers whispered among themselves, a loud voice suddenly rang out from the courtyard entrance.
“Enough!”
Jiang Gannian and Cha Jizu had just returned from a walk.
Hearing the gossip outside and then seeing the chaotic scene inside, their faces turned dark with fury.
Jiang Gannian was someone the Jiang women wouldn’t dare disobey.
As soon as he spoke, Du Yulan immediately stopped, lowering her head and pretending to wipe her tears with a handkerchief.
“Father, this disgraceful girl has gone too far! How could she steal her own sister’s fiancé?”
“Not only does she refuse to admit her mistake, but she even dared to hit her sister!”
“She’s completely shamed our Jiang family!”
Jiang Hongmei glanced at her grandfather’s stern face, then clutched her cheek and shrank behind Du Yulan, tugging at her sleeve.
Du Yulan quickly turned around and hugged her.
“Hongmei, my poor daughter, how will you face the world after this?”
