Chapter 11: Signing and Sealing
“I have something to tell you. I’m so angry with her. Look at the kind of daughter-in-law you married. She doesn’t even respect me, her mother-in-law.”
Yunzhi couldn’t help but chuckle. Even at this point, the old lady was still complaining. She was about to divorce An Xiuyuan, how could she possibly listen to him?
An Xiuyuan, hearing that his mother had been wronged by Yunzhi, became even more annoyed. He looked at Yunzhi coldly and said, “Yun, what’s going on?”
“What’s going on?” Yunzhi glanced at An Xiuyuan indifferently, handed him the divorce papers, and said, “You sign this divorce paper, and I’ll tell you.”
“No, this? Mother?” An Xiuyuan turned to the old lady, his face full of confusion. This wasn’t what they had agreed on.
Earlier, his mother had said that Yunzhi couldn’t be let go, that they would rather kill her than let her keep her dowry. But in just half a day, how did she change her mind?
“Yuan’er, sign it! A heart that isn’t with you, can’t be kept.” The old lady spoke with a double meaning.
An Xiuyuan didn’t catch on, but divorce was naturally something he desired. As long as he could make his beloved woman the Marquis’s wife and their child a legitimate heir, that was all that mattered.
After An Xiuyuan signed his name on the divorce papers, a smile finally appeared on Yunzhi’s face. She glanced at the old lady indifferently and said, “Old Lady, farewell.”
With that, she walked away. As for explaining things to An Xiuyuan, she would leave that to the old lady.
Back at the Fangfei Courtyard, Yunzhi gathered her people and instructed them to pack up everything that belonged to her. Whether it was dowry or anything else, as long as it was hers, even a small trinket, it had to be taken away.
Yunzhi’s people were highly efficient. Plus, she had only been married to the Marquis for a month, so her dowry hadn’t been touched much. It was simply loaded onto carriages and taken away.
Wang Yuzhen, upon learning that An Xiuyuan had divorced Yunzhi, was overjoyed. She quietly went to the Fangfei Courtyard and saw Yunzhi’s people carrying away her dowry, her face turning ugly.
She wanted to keep those things for herself, but she had no reason. She could only watch helplessly, because it was Yunzhi’s dowry.
But when she saw Yunzhi packing up some of the ornaments and valuables from the Fangfei Courtyard and taking them away, she couldn’t help but jump out and say to An Xiuyuan, “Brother Xiuyuan, it’s fine that Yunzhi is taking her dowry, that’s her own. But the things in the Fangfei Courtyard belong to the Marquisate, how can she take them?”
An Xiuyuan, upon hearing this, thought Wang Yuzhen’s words made sense. So, he went directly to the Fangfei Courtyard, trying to stop Yunzhi’s people from moving the things.
Yunzhi was resting in the room when she heard An Xiuyuan’s voice. She frowned, then walked out.
Seeing him blocking her people from moving the things, her face darkened, and she asked, “An Xiuyuan, what are you trying to do?”
“Yun, shouldn’t I be asking you that? These things in the courtyard belong to my Marquisate, why are you taking them away?”
Upon hearing this, Yunzhi immediately sneered and said, “An Xiuyuan, you don’t think that just because these things are in the Marquisate, they belong to the Marquisate, do you?”
Then, she gestured to Rulan, “Show him the list, tell him who these things belong to.”
