Chapter 88: Poison for Poison
“Mother, I’m fine. That person has already left.”
“Left? What about your poison?” Xu looked at her daughter, trying to discern something from her face. But she couldn’t see anything, and she didn’t know if the poison had been cured.
“It’s not cured yet.” Yunzhu said, revealing the small porcelain bottle in her hand. “The antidote is here.”
“If this is the antidote, why are you still hesitating? Take it quickly.” Xu was anxious. This poison was no joke. The sooner the antidote was taken, the sooner they could rest easy.
However, Yunzhu didn’t rush to take the antidote. Instead, she looked at Xu with a serious expression and said, “Mother, this is indeed the antidote, but the person who gave it to me said it’s also a poison.”
“What do you mean?” Xu’s face changed immediately. She didn’t understand what it meant to be both an antidote and a poison.
Yunzhu looked deeply at Xu and said, “It means that the poison I’ve been given can only be cured by using poison to counteract the poison.”
“What? How can that be?” Xu’s face turned pale. “Can we still take this antidote? What if we take it and get poisoned again?”
Yunzhu had the same worry, which was why she didn’t take the antidote immediately. Now, she didn’t know how to answer her mother.
However, holding this poison, she had a new idea.
But she was conflicted, unsure whether she should do it. Because if she did, and there wasn’t a second antidote, then she would also face death.
“Zhu’er, maybe we should hold off on taking this antidote.” Xu looked at her daughter and asked tentatively. She had decided to write a letter back to Jiangnan to see if the Xu family could help her find someone from the Medicine King Valley.
She knew that the Xu family had always had connections with the Medicine King Valley. If they could find someone from there, then the poison in her daughter’s body shouldn’t be a problem.
Of course, there was one condition: Yunzhi couldn’t tell anyone. As long as Yunzhi didn’t speak, the Xu family wouldn’t stand idly by. After all, she was a daughter of the Xu family, and Zhu’er was their granddaughter.
Hearing Xu’s words, Yunzhu looked at her in surprise and asked, “Why?”
This was a hard-won antidote. She wondered if her mother didn’t want her to take it because she had the same idea, to use it on Yunzhi.
“Didn’t you say it’s a poison? What if it’s bad for your health? It’s better to wait. Mother is thinking of a way.”
“Mother, can you really think of a way?” Yunzhu was skeptical. If she could really think of a way, why didn’t she say it earlier? Why did she go to seek out that so-called divine doctor?
“Yes!” Xu nodded seriously. In her heart, she thought that if the Xu family didn’t help, she would have to threaten them with that matter.
She believed they wouldn’t want Yunzhi to know about it.
Seeing Xu’s certainty, a smile finally appeared on Yunzhu’s face. “Alright, I’ll listen to Mother.”
Then, she touched the small porcelain bottle in her hand and said, “But we can’t waste this thing. After all, it cost a lot of money.”
A mother knows her daughter best.
Hearing this, Xu immediately asked, “What do you want to do with it?”
“Naturally, I want to let Big Sister taste the poison too.”
“But…” Xu opened her mouth, wanting to say something. But the words got stuck in her throat. She knew her daughter had been holding back her anger. If she didn’t let it out, something would happen sooner or later.
Forget it. Since she wanted to poison Yunzhi, she would help her.
