Chapter 54
Jiang Tiantian changed out of the dress and stepped out from behind the curtain.
Xiaofang took the dress from her, neatly folded it on the counter, and handed it back.
“The other dress will be ready in three days. Make sure to come and pick it up.”
Jiang Tiantian nodded, took the dress, and stuffed it into her cloth bag.
“I’m not sure if I’ll come to town in three days. If not, I’ll have someone from the village bring it back for me.”
Xiaofang smiled lightly. “That’s fine. Do whatever’s convenient for you.”
Cha Jiuzhang, standing nearby, cautiously suggested, “Sister-in-law, why don’t I take Chunni back to the village so she can stay with her grandma for a few days? You’re already busy making clothes and taking care of the child. It would give you some time to rest.”
Xiaofang was momentarily stunned but nodded. “That’s a good idea. Mom must miss her, too. Let me ask Chunni.”
She walked over to the small bed and picked up Chunni. “Chunni, Uncle Jiuzhang is going back to the village. Do you want to go with him to see Grandma?”
“Grandma?”
Chunni tilted her little head in thought, then suddenly teared up and whimpered, “I miss Grandma. I want Grandma.”
Xiaofang’s eyes turned red as she looked at Cha Jiuzhang. “Give me a moment to pack her things.”
Both men nodded in unison.
Cha Jiuzhang took Chunni in his arms. “Don’t cry, Chunni. We’ll be home soon, and you can play with Grandma.”
Chunni hugged her cloth doll, rested her head on his shoulder, and dozed off.
Xiaofang packed a cloth bag with clothes and milk powder. Jiang Tiantian reached out to take it. “Give it to me.”
“She usually naps around this time, so you don’t have to worry too much. She’ll probably sleep all the way to the village.”
As Cha Jiuzhang carried Chunni toward the door, he turned back to Xiaofang, who looked a bit uneasy.
“Sister-in-law, don’t worry. Everything will be fine.”
“For the next couple of days, try not to go out alone. It’s best if your sister or someone else accompanies you.”
Xiaofang smiled reassuringly. “I know. Don’t worry.”
After saying their goodbyes, they headed toward the road to wait for Cha Baiwan’s car.
Cha Jiuzhang was silent for a long time before turning to Jiang Tiantian with a serious expression.
“In a few days, I need to come back to town. If we don’t deal with that scumbag, he’ll remain a threat. Sister-in-law and Chunni won’t have peace.”
Cha Jiuzhang briefly explained how that man, known as Er laizi (Erlaizi), had harassed Xiaofang before and how he and Xiaoliu had once taught him a lesson.
Since he and Jiang Tiantian were husband and wife, he didn’t want any secrets between them. It was better to be upfront and avoid misunderstandings.
Besides, he had realized over the past few days that this woman was even more strong-willed than he was.
So, he couldn’t keep things from her.
Husbands and wives should be honest with each other!
Jiang Tiantian asked, “How do you plan to deal with him?”
Cha Jiuzhang’s eyes turned cold. “I’ll find an opportunity to trap him in a sack and beat him until he’s crippled. Let’s see if he still has the energy to harm others.”
“What kind of person is Erlaizi?”
A look of disgust flashed across Cha Jiuzhang’s face.
“He’s a scumbag. A petty thief who does all kinds of despicable things. I heard that two girls from nearby villages were assaulted by him, but he’s slippery and never gets caught. The girls didn’t want to make a fuss, so no one could do anything about it.”
Jiang Tiantian nodded. If he was truly scum, then she had no moral burden.
She looked at Cha Jiuzhang seriously. “Do you trust me?”
Cha Jiuzhang was confused but nodded. “Of course. You’re my wife. If I don’t trust you, who else would I trust?”
“Good. Then leave this matter to me.”
“You have a bright future ahead of you. I don’t want you to get involved in something dirty. If you get exposed, it’ll only hurt you.”
Cha Jiuzhang was touched by her concern.
But after hesitating for a moment, he firmly said, “If we let Erlaizi go, Sister-in-law and Chunni will never have peace. I can’t just stand by and do nothing.”
Jiang Tiantian spoke gently. “Violence won’t solve the problem. We are civilized people—we should use a civilized approach.”
She gave him a mysterious smile. “Trust me. I have a strong feeling that Erlaizi is going to suffer soon.”
Cha Jiuzhang was taken aback. He reached out to touch her forehead. “No fever. Why are you talking so mysteriously?”
Jiang Tiantian brushed his hand away and gave him a smug look. “I’m telling you, my instincts are always spot on. Just wait and see—this will be resolved soon.”
Cha Jiuzhang: ?!
“You don’t believe me? Let’s bet. Loser is a puppy.”
Cha Jiuzhang: “You can’t insult mop dogs.”
“Hmph~ We’ll see in a few days. If you don’t believe me, suit yourself.”
Cha Jiuzhang shut his mouth.
Fine. He wouldn’t dampen her enthusiasm. If she said to wait a few days, then so be it.
Earlier, when Jiang Tiantian was trying on clothes in Xiaofang’s shop, she had overheard the conversation between Cha Jiuzhang and Xiaofang.
She immediately asked Xiao Qi, “Is there a potion in the system that can slow someone down and make them mentally impaired?”
Xiao Qi: “Yes.”
“How can I get it?”
Xiao Qi replied, “I know what you want to do. The system offers a remote injection service, but it costs 200,000 gold coins per use. Do you want it?”
Damn!
Such a rip-off!
Gold coins drained too fast!
Gritting her teeth, Jiang Tiantian said, “Yes!”
Getting rid of scum was an act of justice.
She was also helping Xiaofang get rid of a problem—for Cha Jiuzhang’s sake, preserving his loyalty to his brother Songzi.
Otherwise, he’d keep worrying about this situation.
And no matter the reason, she didn’t want Cha Jiuzhang constantly thinking about another woman.
Soon, Jiang Tiantian saw Xiao Qi release a small, lifelike robotic bee. It carried a light-yellow liquid in its abdomen and had a needle at its tail.
Xiao Qi: “Once it stings the target, the neurotoxin will be injected into their body. In twelve hours, it will completely damage their nervous system, causing permanent impairment. The hospital will only detect it as a toxic bee sting.”
Whoa!
This was some advanced technology!
A perfect assassination tool.
The future was terrifying.
Jiang Tiantian shivered. She was better off staying in this era.
While waiting for the car at the roadside, Xiao Qi reported back, “The bee has successfully completed the mission and is returning.”
On the way back to the village—
The two men sat in the front, chatting.
Jiang Tiantian, holding the sleeping Chunni, sat in the back.
Now that the robotic bee had completed its mission, she relaxed and had Xiao Qi edit and upload a video of the lunchtime scene at the noodle shop.
Warm, everyday moments between couples were comforting to watch.
A short while later, as Chunni slept soundly, Jiang Tiantian also drifted off.
Cha Jiuzhang glanced back at the peaceful scene, a smile forming on his lips. His eyes were full of warmth.
“Drive steadily. They’re asleep.”
Cha Baiwan chuckled silently. It was rare to see Cha Jiuzhang like this.
He glanced at him. “You’ve made up your mind about her?”
“Mm. It’s her.” Cha Jiuzhang replied with certainty.
Cha Baiwan said no more. Cha Jiuzhang was smart—he knew what he wanted, and no one could change his mind.
