Chapter 7
Before dawn,
Lin Qing got up,
She had to go to school.
Wang Lan-feng had already cooked rice noodles early in the morning. She put a small piece of fermented tofu and a spoonful of chili sauce in a bowl.
Lin Qing stirred the fermented tofu, chili sauce, and rice noodles together, turning the plain water noodle soup into a spicy red soup noodle soup.
The soft and glutinous rice noodles were wrapped in fermented tofu. One bite, and her mouth burned with spiciness.
It was incredibly satisfying.
After eating her fill, she put on her small cloth satchel and set off with a full stomach.
The few days of fasting coincided with the time when the team was spraying pesticides on the cotton fields, and many students from the school took leave to go back to the village to work.
Going to school now wouldn’t be too out of place.
The sun was still lazy,
hiding on the horizon, not rising, not shining.
The hazy morning was still shrouded in mist,
On the road, the grass was lush,
There wasn’t a single soul in sight,
Just mounds of graves.
Lin Qing stepped on the dewdrops, silently chanting, they are all ancestors, there’s nothing to be afraid of.
But,
The problem was,
These didn’t seem to be her ancestors.
This morning was truly terrifying.
Just then, a figure suddenly darted out from behind a tombstone.
Lin Qing was so startled that she almost instinctively kicked out.
She focused her gaze,
It was Cui Cui-hua.
Lin Qing wished she could curse right then and there. You really know how to hide, don’t you?
Aren’t you afraid of the people lying in these mounds getting upset?
Cui Cui-hua was now practically seething with hatred for Lin Qing. If it weren’t for her going to their house and saying all those things, how would her mother not care about breaking off the engagement?
Now, it was fine, she wasn’t allowed to go to the Lin family.
Fine, she wouldn’t go, she could still block Lin Qing’s path and let her know that this marriage had to be broken off, whether she liked it or not.
“Lin Qing, I don’t believe that Hui-zhou has someone else. Mrs. Zhao doesn’t like you, it’s no use clinging on. Mrs. Zhao said I’m Hui-zhou’s perfect match.”
Lin Qing gritted her teeth and stared at Cui Cui-hua for a while. This girl really was…
“I don’t believe that Hui-zhou has someone else~~”
“Believe it or not.”
You’re copying me?
What’s your attitude!
Cui Cui-hua was so angry she wanted to bite Lin Qing. “I’m telling you, my mother doesn’t believe a word of what you said. You better agree to break off the engagement quickly, don’t end up with nothing good to show for it.”
Even a clay figure has three points of temper. Lin Qing also got angry. Anyone can say hurtful things,
“Cui Cui-hua, I’ll tell you the truth. The things I told your mother were all made up. What can you do to me? I won’t break off the engagement, come and bite me!”
“Get out of the way, good dogs don’t block the road.”
There’s no point in talking to a pig-headed person like her.
Just go along with her.
What do you think I am? Yes, yes, exactly what you think.
So what?
What can you do?
Lin Qing shoved Cui Cui-hua aside and ran off, taking advantage of the fact that someone was coming to quickly pass through the mounds of graves.
From another perspective,
It was kind of good that Cui Cui-hua was here…
“Ah” Cui Cui-hua shouted in anger.
She knew that this little b*tch was lying. Why wasn’t her mother here to hear it properly?
Cui Cui-hua stomped her feet in anger.
No, she had to make her mother go to the Lin family today and force her uncle to agree to break off the engagement.
Let’s see how Lin Qing can still be smug.
Cui Cui-hua rushed home in a huff, shouting as she entered, “Mom, you’ve been tricked. Lin Qing admitted it, Hui-zhou doesn’t have anyone else, she made it all up.”
She thought that after saying this, her mother would be furious and go to the Lin family to settle the score. Unexpectedly, her mother just gave her a disdainful look.
What was her mother doing? She was disdainful of her, she wasn’t disdainful of her being senile.
“Mom, did you hear what I said? You go to my uncle’s house and make them break off the engagement.”
“Did all the things I told you last night go in one ear and out the other?” Lin Er-gu glared coldly at her.
She thought she had calmed down, but she was just holding back until dawn to block her?
She would do anything to get married.
All she could think about was Zhao Hui-zhou, Zhao Hui-zhou.
She wanted to beat Zhao Hui-zhou up.
“What are you in such a hurry for? If the Zhao family really wants to marry you, they’ll come and marry you without us doing anything.”
“Mom!” Cui Cui-hua couldn’t understand how she could be so calm.
“So many people are waiting for the Zhao family to break off the engagement. Hui-zhou is such a good man, who wouldn’t want him? There are probably a lot of people eyeing him now. If you don’t hurry, others will, and then what will our family have to do with it?”
“Where else can you find such a good son-in-law?”
Cui Cui-hua had a certain degree of self-awareness.
There were many girls in the village who were more capable than her, and she wasn’t the only one who could take care of Hui-zhou.
Why did the Zhao family want her? Wasn’t it because her mother could force her uncle to agree to break off the engagement?
You know what, that hit the nail on the head for Lin Er-gu.
She was also afraid that a Cheng Yaojin would come in and steal the show.
Her heart was wavering again.
She definitely couldn’t go to the Lin family to cause trouble anymore, but her daughter…
Lin Qing arrived at the school according to the original owner’s memory. The sixty-year-old school was a bit dilapidated.
But the students’ energetic faces and pure, honest eyes were enough to make up for the school’s age.
The moment she entered the school, her heart felt relaxed and comfortable.
Lin Qing went to her class with ease.
Her deskmate was a thin and small girl, with a slightly sallow complexion, looking weak.
She must not eat enough.
Seeing her arrive, the little girl stood up and offered her seat.
After Lin Qing entered and they both sat down, the little girl paused, remembering something, “Lin Qing, the head teacher said if you came, you should go see her first.”
“……!”
Why didn’t she say so earlier?
She was already sitting down.
The head teacher was a middle-aged woman with a standard cadre hairstyle, stern and unsmiling, with a sense of solemnity about her.
Lin Qing felt a sense of dread, as if she had been sent back to school to be dominated by the head teacher.
She said obediently, “Teacher Qi, our team has been busy with farming these past two days, I had to contribute my strength.”
In an era without advanced communication, it was common for some students to miss school due to family matters.
Teacher Qi didn’t think much of it, she nodded, “Labor is a great and glorious thing, Lin Qing, you’ve done well. I called you here to ask you, are you going to take the college entrance examination?”
“If you are, I have the registration form and application form for you, fill them out first.”
“Teacher, I will participate.”
