Chapter 24: The Wise Jinshi x The Obsessed Emperor 03
A moment later.
Zhou Dehai hurried back and informed Qin Jingchuan of the information he had gathered.
“Your Majesty, that young master is the eldest illegitimate son of Yun Ai, the Left Deputy Grand Censor of the Censorate.”
“His name is Yun Huai, and he is only twenty years old. He must have gone to the imperial examination hall.”
He paused and continued, “Today is the day the palace exams begin. Yun Gongzi must have gone to the imperial examination hall to take the exams.”
Qin Jingchuan pursed his lips, his eyes deep and sharp, his voice low and husky. “Yun Ai, Yun Huai…”
He remembered Yun Ai. He was still useful, so he had given him the position of Left Deputy Grand Censor, a rank of third-grade official. But he hadn’t expected him to have such a good son.
Yun Huai, he liked him!
Zhou Dehai cautiously observed the Emperor. “Your Majesty, do you want to summon Lord Yun?”
Qin Jingchuan waved his hand. “No. We’ll talk after I meet Yun Huai.”
If that young man with bright eyes and pearly teeth stayed, his life would no longer be lonely.
Thinking of the fleeting glimpse of the young man, Qin Jingchuan’s eyes gradually darkened.
“Prepare the carriage to return to the palace.”
“Also, summon the Minister of Rites to the palace.” He was getting old. It was time to choose an empress. And now that he had found someone he liked, he didn’t want to be alone any longer.
Zhou Dehai bowed slightly. “This servant obeys.”
It seemed like the palace would soon have a new mistress, and His Majesty would finally be getting married.
Thinking of the fleeting glimpse of Yun Gongzi, Zhou Dehai’s face held a knowing smile.
It had to be said, His Majesty’s taste was indeed excellent. That young master with such outstanding features was truly a gem.
As expected of His Majesty, his skills in snagging a good catch were unmatched!
Qin Jingchuan lowered his gaze, staring at his fingers. His black eyes were like a dark and stormy sea under the night sky. His heart beat so fast it felt like it would burst out of his chest.
Yun Huai, I want you to be my Empress!
Yun Mansion, Yingshue Ge (Reflecting Snow Pavilion).
The woman in pink, leaning against a couch, slowly scowled after hearing her maid’s report. A dark malice spread across her bright face.
“Yun Huai left the mansion?!”
“Are you all useless? You let a weak scholar slip out of the mansion!”
The maid fell to her knees with a thud.
“Miss, this servant had people watching the movements at Lin Feng Yuan (Wind-Blowing Courtyard). The eldest young master had been staying at home all this time. Who knew he would climb over the wall and escape today?”
“By the time this servant realized, it was too late.”
She never imagined that the meek and gentle eldest young master could climb over the wall.
They had been watching all the gates these past few days, absolutely not allowing the eldest young master to leave. Who knew he wouldn’t use the gates and would just climb over the wall!
Yun Shu said coldly, “It’s too late now. He must have already reached the imperial examination hall.”
“I underestimated him.”
She lazily stared at her hand, the red nail polish on her fingernails particularly vibrant.
“This time, I couldn’t stop him, but there will be next time. He’s just a helpless illegitimate son. He can’t surpass me and Brother Cheng. He’s nothing but dirt under my feet.”
The maid flattered her. “Yes, how could the eldest young master compare to you and the third young master? Even if he passes the palace exams, he’s still a lump of clay in your hands, for you to mold as you please.”
Yun Shu snorted coldly. “Don’t worry about him for now. He won’t be able to do anything.”
He wasn’t even in the mansion. Even if she wanted to torment him, she had no way to do so!
The maid suggested, “Miss, should we bring the people from Lin Feng Yuan to be interrogated?”
Yun Shu waved her hand. “No.”
“An old hag and a useless servant are not worth my effort. I’ll deal with them when Yun Huai returns.”
She raised her hand with its red nails. “Yun Huai, his good days are over.”
Leaving the mansion without permission, defying his father’s orders. These two offenses alone were enough to make Yun Huai suffer.
If she just lifted a finger, she was sure to make his life even worse!
Three days later.
Yun Huai, with a calm expression and a confident air, walked out of the imperial examination hall. His tall figure was like a pine or a bamboo, his loose white shirt enveloping his slender frame.
Broad shoulders, narrow waist, elegant and graceful.
They had all taken the exams for three days and two nights, but he still looked impeccable.
Only the weariness in his brows revealed the same fatigue as the other candidates, but it didn’t detract from his appearance. It even added a touch of fragility.
The moment Yun Huai stepped out of the imperial examination hall, Qin Jingchuan in the palace received the news.
The noble Emperor, who had been thinking of Yun Huai for nearly three days, immediately decided to go see him tonight, and to get to know him better.
Unaware of anything, Yun Huai left the imperial examination hall and returned to the back courtyard of the Yun Mansion.
He had Zhang Ping boil some water, changed clothes, and took a hot bath.
After his bath, he was too tired to even eat. He went straight back to bed to rest.
He had no idea that Qin Jingchuan in the palace was already on his way to the Yun Mansion, nor did he know that his return had been noticed by his sister, Yun Shu.
The former was the Emperor who longed to see him, while the latter was the transmigrated woman who wanted to kill him.
The Emperor was eager to see him, while the transmigrated woman was waiting until tomorrow to strike, to completely destroy him.
However, the transmigrated woman, Yun Shu, didn’t know that just one night later, Yun Huai would become someone she couldn’t afford to provoke. She would no longer be able to use him.
