Chapter 16
After dinner,
Lin Qing took the mugwort sticks she had made at home and lit them, fumigating herself.
She told herself to be a woman with a touch of elegance.
Then, she almost choked to death.
It was too hot to do this in the middle of summer.
She dressed neatly, carrying a small bamboo basket and her tools, and set off.
She hadn’t even walked a meter from home when she was already sweating all over.
Wiping the sweat dripping from her forehead, Lin Qing thought to herself, if it weren’t for her good physique, she might have ended it right here.
Once she entered the mountains, there were shady spots. She walked along until she found a small stream flowing gently along the mountain path.
Lin Qing saw a patch of Eclipta prostrata in the grass by the stream.
Eclipta prostrata belongs to the Asteraceae family.
It often grows by streams or in shady, damp places. Those who don’t recognize it just think it’s a wildflower.
Lin Qing walked over and plucked a leaf, rubbing it between her fingers. Black juice flowed from her fingertips, confirming that it was indeed Eclipta prostrata.
This was a good thing, it replenished the spleen and kidney, stopped bleeding, and most importantly for Lin Qing, it had therapeutic effects on gynecological diseases.
She spent the entire afternoon collecting herbs on the outskirts of the mountain.
Later, she found a shrub called “Luying.”
The stems and leaves of this plant can be used as medicine, with the effects of dispelling wind and dampness, relaxing tendons and activating blood circulation, and relieving pain.
Luying was past its flowering season and was about to bear fruit.
Lin Qing’s eyes flickered, and she decided to take the whole plant, roots and all, and transplant it to her space.
With the spiritual spring, how could it not survive?
And so, another medicinal plant was added to her medicinal field.
The afternoon passed by exceptionally fulfilling.
This mountain had nurtured countless generations, like a giant treasure trove.
Lin Qing had a rich harvest, her bamboo basket filled with medicinal herbs.
When she got tired, she would find a place to sit down and rest, drinking diluted well water, which seemed to cool the hot air.
The well water in her space had another wonderful effect, it could relieve fatigue.
After drinking the well water, Lin Qing felt like Popeye after eating spinach, feeling like she could do anything.
As the sky was tinged with orange.
She reluctantly descended the mountain and returned home.
Not far from home, she saw Wang Lanfeng.
There seemed to be a hint of anxiety in her figure.
Seeing her, Wang Lanfeng rushed over.
A slight smile curved Lin Qing’s lips.
It was good.
She had a family.
As soon as Wang Lanfeng reached her daughter’s side, she began to complain, “Why did you come back so late?”
She took the bamboo basket from Lin Qing’s back and put it on her own.
Lin Qing smiled, “If I collect more, I can sell more.”
“We still have some savings, if you really get into college, your father and I will find someone to borrow some money, we will definitely get you enough money for your tuition.”
As they spoke, they entered the courtyard. Wang Lanfeng carried the bamboo basket to the eaves and spread the herbs directly on a winnowing basket.
Only then did Lin Qing remember that she hadn’t told her family that the school she had applied to was in Shen City in the north.
“Money is still hot.” She didn’t say she didn’t need to rely on her family, “If we really need to borrow money, tell your father, the school will give out monthly subsidies, I will save money and eat frugally for a few months, I will definitely be able to repay the money.”
In this era, it was common for children to be sensible, and saving money was a virtue.
Wang Lanfeng listened calmly, “I understand.”
Although they knew the family needed money, Wang Lanfeng and Lin Dahua would not desperately think of desperate measures to raise money.
Lin Qing’s elder sister had asked her privately, and Lin Qing said it was no problem.
She didn’t dare to tell her sister that she had applied to a school so far away.
She was afraid that her sister would be overwhelmed and sell her blood again.
Every day, before the villagers woke up, Lin Qing was already on the mountain.
When the villagers finished their work, Lin Qing was already home.
Collecting herbs meant drying them.
The yard was full of herbs, there was no way to hide them.
Only the neighbors in front and behind Lin’s house could notice the herbs drying in their courtyard.
But in their eyes, the herbs all looked the same.
After seeing so many, they were too lazy to look.
The careless ones didn’t even notice that the herbs had changed again.
The Lin family wasn’t new to drying herbs.
No one thought much of it.
Those who did think about it wouldn’t say anything. Lin Dahua and Wang Lanfeng were honest and simple, and their relationships with their neighbors were good.
The Zhao family was going to break off the engagement anyway, and they were afraid of being gossipy and causing trouble.
Lin Qing had been collecting herbs for several days, and barely anyone in the village knew about it.
At first, Wang Lanfeng and Lin Yu were a little worried,
After watching Lin Qing collect herbs for a few days without anything happening, they were no longer worried.
They thought, it was just a stroll around the mountain, nothing could happen.
Little did they know that the outskirts of the mountain were no longer enough for Lin Qing.
She had already gone deeper into the mountains.
Lin Qing had her space and her system, and her courage grew little by little.
Collecting herbs seemed to be addictive, every time she discovered a new medicinal plant, she felt like she had unlocked something.
It was like playing a game.
You always want to light up all the icons in the collection category.
Zhao Laopo was cured, but she was still fuming.
When had she ever suffered such a loss in her life?
And it was from a girl she looked down upon the most.
This revenge had to be taken.
Since she had talked to her son on the phone, Zhao Laopo had vaguely had some evil thoughts.
But the girl didn’t come out all day, so there was no way to harm her.
Besides, she hadn’t figured out how to harm her, how to break off the engagement in a way that would make sense.
The most resourceful person in the Zhao family was Zhao Huizhou.
Before Zhao Laopo could figure it out, her son’s letter arrived.
At work,
Zhao Huizhou didn’t dare to say much on the phone, a letter was much more discreet.
Now that he and Zhang Hong had confirmed their relationship, Lin Qing had to be kicked out.
Zhao Huizhou’s meaning was, if they could break off the engagement, then break it off, if they couldn’t, then simply ignore the Lin family and go ahead and get engaged to Cui Cuihua.
Once the two families were engaged, the villagers would naturally assume that they had broken off the engagement.
At that time, the Lin family would have no way to argue, they would have to swallow their pride and accept it.
Zhao Huoyan stumbled through the letter, and Zhao Laopo was a little troubled…
Her son didn’t know the real situation.
If she had known, she shouldn’t have taken the Lin family’s dowry, she should have gotten engaged to the Cui family first, then there wouldn’t have been so much trouble.
With things developing like this, Zhao Laopo didn’t know who to blame.
Cui Cuihua, that stupid fool!
Lin Qing was no good either.
The Lin family’s third daughter didn’t go to school, why didn’t she go to work?
She was so lazy, she didn’t care about the brigade at all.
A strange wind suddenly blew through Shanglin Village, carrying a demonic aura.
It was as if Lin Qing was a heinous criminal for not going to work.
The brigade leader, under pressure, found Lin Dahua, “Your third daughter doesn’t go to work, the members are dissatisfied.”
Here it comes, here it comes, Lin Dahua was actually quite excited,
He lowered his head,
With a look of honesty and simplicity,
He said in a muffled voice, “The Zhao family and her aunt made such a fuss, how can the child come out to face people?”
“The child has been depressed ever since, she’s getting thinner and thinner, her mother and I are worried, we’re afraid that one day she’ll lose her mind and jump into the river again.”
“Captain, how dare I let the child go to work, what if the village women say something and stimulate my child, what if she loses her mind and something happens, who will compensate me for my daughter?”
Can you compensate?
In the brigade leader’s eyes, Lin Dahua was a silent gourd, only speaking a word today, and Lin Dahua had spoken a long string.
It was clear that he was anxious.
Put yourself in his shoes, if your own child encountered this, you would definitely hide at home first.
Why are you picking on a girl?
She’s so delicate, how much work can she do?
Something’s not right.
There’s a demonic aura.
