Chapter 48: Avenging Teammates
On the other side of the forest, Guan Yu looked at the slumped corpse before him, a look of undisguised disgust in his eyes.
The corpse’s heart had been pierced by an arrow, the blood staining a large patch of the clothes on its chest a deep red.
“My judgment failed me. Who knew that pretty boy had such impressive archery skills?” Guan Yu said to the corpse, his remaining three teammates standing silently behind him.
He raised a hand, pulled the arrow from the corpseās heart, and then kicked the body onto the ground.
At that moment, a full team approached. Their numbers were covered by their chest plates, so Guan Yu couldn’t see them.
However, seeing four people standing on Guan Yu’s side and one on the ground, they assumed this team had just experienced a fierce battle and suffered casualties.
They immediately surrounded them, only recognizing Guan Yu as the long-haired man who had suggested all teams cooperate outside the forest yesterday when they got closer.
“Oh, it’s you, Team Two?” The team leader was a greasy man with dyed blue hair.
He looked at the number on Guan Yu’s chest and then looked up at the leaderboard in the sky. “What are you doing? It’s almost dark, and you don’t even have 20,000 points. Are you just giving up?”
“May I ask what team number you are?” Guan Yu regained his previously refined demeanor.
The blue-haired man narrowed his eyes at Guan Yu. “What’s it to you? Since you’re giving up, why don’t you just give us your points!”
His team’s strength was average. They didn’t dare to mess with full teams, so they hid in the forest, avoiding five-person teams whenever they saw them.
It was finally their chance to catch a team with fewer members, how could they not take advantage of it?
“Brothers, let’s do it, take them down!” At the blue-haired man’s command, his teammates used their abilities to attack Guan Yu.
Seeing the enemies rushing towards him, Guan Yu calmly raised his hand and snapped his fingers.
The crisp “snap” sounded like a pebble suddenly dropped into a calm lake, ripples spreading out.
The blue-haired man and his teammates froze in place the moment they heard the sound.
Guan Yu walked up to him, his voice gentle, “Look into my eyes.”
The blue-haired man woodenly looked up, his gaze blankly fixed on Guan Yu’s eyes.
Guan Yu said, word by word, “Your teammate was killed by a pretty boy with a bow. After you bury the deceased, you must find that pretty boy and avenge him!”
Then, among the blue-haired man’s teammates, he picked one who was more pleasing to his eye, opened his palm towards the person’s brow, and a strand of white silk drilled into it.
He moved his slender fingers again, and that person stopped his attack posture and obediently stood beside him.
Guan Yu uncovered the number he had covered with his cloak and glanced at it, then looked at the sky. “Team Nine, don’t you only have a little over 20,000 points too?”
No one responded to him. He seemed to have long been accustomed to talking to himself.
He looked down at the number plate on his chest. This thing couldn’t be discarded. Even if he changed his clothes, it would still appear on the innermost garment. Exchanging cloaks from the mall to cover the number plate was indeed a good choice.
So he exchanged three more cloaks and helped his teammates cover their number plates. Then, he led his newly joined teammate, a total of five people, into the depths of the forest.
After their figures completely disappeared into the forest, the blue-haired man and his remaining three teammates finally moved.
They stiffly buried the Team Two member who had been pierced through the heart with an arrow. The four knelt on the ground, their eyes slowly regaining their light.
“Damn pretty boy, we’re going to find him now and avenge our teammate!” the blue-haired man said, picking up the bloody arrow from the ground.
The other teammates echoed, “Avenge him!”
After Lou Su determined that the person spying on them had run away, they stopped insisting on finding him. Seeing that it was getting dark, they decided to head deeper into the forest and kill a few Flame Gold Lions.
While clearing out the various small alien species they encountered along the way, suddenly an arrow came flying through the air, its target actually Chu Xihen, who was leisurely strolling at the rear.
Lou Su launched a wind blade, splitting the arrow in two and causing it to fall to the ground.
“That’s the arrow I shot out earlier,” Chu Xihen recognized it immediately.
The arrows from the [Arrow from Nothing] were condensed from the user’s thoughts, unlike other arrows.
Lou Su stared intently ahead. “Come out!”
As soon as he spoke, four people wearing black cloaks walked out from behind the trees in the distance, led by a man with dyed blue hair.
“You’re the one who killed our teammate?” The blue-haired man’s eyes were filled with hatred. “Brothers, let’s go! Kill him and avenge our dead teammate!”
Hearing this, Ling Yao was even angrier than the blue-haired man. “What are you? You think you’re justified for spying on us?”
However, the blue-haired man had no intention of reasoning with them. The four of them rushed up, completely in a “you die or I die” kind of posture.
Lou Su didn’t intend to kill and steal points, but since people were actively offering themselves up, they certainly didn’t need to hold back.
However, as soon as the two sides exchanged blows, Lou Su realized that their abilities weren’t that great, and with four against five, they had no chance of winning at all.
To sacrifice everyone’s life for one teammate, was that reasonable?
Lou Su felt that something was strange and quickly spoke to stop them. “Wang Heng, leave one alive!”
But he was still a step too late. Wang Heng used an earth spike to pierce the last person’s throat directly.
“Sorry, Brother Lou, I couldn’t hold back!” Wang Heng scratched the back of his head apologetically.
Lou Su shook his head. “It’s okay, I just realized something was wrong and wanted to keep someone alive to ask.”
“What’s wrong?” Ding Hui asked.
Ling Yao tore open the blue-haired man’s cloak. “Let me see what team number this is and how many points they’ll contribute to us.”
Killing to steal points wasn’t what they wanted, but being able to easily pocket a large number of points was definitely a pleasant thing.
“Team Nine…” Ling Yao looked up at the leaderboard in the sky. “20,500 points, not much more than us… Wait, wasn’t their team wiped out by us? Why is their number still lit up?”
Hearing Ling Yao’s words, the others also looked at the sky.
Team Nine’s number was indeed still lit up.
Wang Heng frowned and checked all four of them. “They’re all dead. Is the leaderboard delayed?”
“Is that what you thought was wrong?” Chu Xihen asked Lou Su.
Lou Su shook his head. “I didn’t expect that. What I thought was wrong was that they seemed to be here to die on purpose.”
“Even if they came to die on purpose, their whole team is dead, why aren’t they giving us points!” Ling Yao was going crazy. “One of their teammates was killed by Brother Chu, and there are four lying here. One plus four equals five, right?”
Chu Xihen said calmly, “What if the one I killed wasn’t a member of Team Nine?”
