Chapter 42: It’s Just a Kiss, Here, Have it Back
Wen Ye and I sat cross-legged on the sofa, facing each other. He unwrapped the gauze on my wrist.
I was too busy being angry earlier to notice anything wrong with the wound, but now that I’ve calmed down, it burns fiercely, and I even feel a chill all over.
The once iodine-yellowed, bloody flesh has turned black and green, looking like a festering, venomous sore—a truly horrifying sight.
I gasped in pain several times, unable to stop myself from whimpering.
“Hmph, weren’t you eager to die just a moment ago?” Wen Ye raised his eyelids, sneering at me.
I pouted, admitting defeat: “I don’t want to anymore… How do I treat this wound? Do you know that fox spirit?”
“I don’t recognize it. It’s a fox spirit that is raised by someone. It can attach itself to living beings, feeding on their essence and blood—an evil spirit of pestilence, unlike the methods I practice.”
Wen Ye frowned as he examined my wound, then suddenly looked up at me, his gaze intense: “I’ll help you treat the wound first, but the venom needs to be extracted by a specialized doctor.”
“How are you going to trea— Ah…”
Before I could finish speaking, he lowered his head, pulled my wrist closer, and brought it to his lips. He ran his tongue over my wrist again and again, like an animal licking a companion’s wound.
Damp, warm, soft, with a tiny bit of rough texture, hooking into my blood vessels and pores, and hooking into my heart as well.
His expression was serious, even reverent, without any impure thoughts.
But my mind was filled with lewd thoughts—the white and gentle Le Xiaomai turned into a little devil, constantly urging me: Pounce on him! Pounce on him! Think about his pecs, think about his washboard abs, Le Xiaomai, you won’t be at a disadvantage!
Just as the little devil was about to take over my mind, Wen Ye’s lips left my wrist.
I lowered my head in a panic, afraid that he would see my wicked intentions.
The wound miraculously began to heal slowly, and I widened my eyes, holding back a cry of surprise.
Seeing that it wasn’t completely healed, Wen Ye frowned, looking slightly frustrated: “The human body is so troublesome! The venom has to be completely extracted, and then licked again, for the wound to heal completely.”
He tapped a few points on my arm and looked up at me: “I’ve temporarily suppressed your acupoints, so the venom will spread more slowly. I’ll take you to get it treated.”
My face flushed and my heart raced as I pulled back my hand, whispering thanks: “Where are we going to extract the venom?”
“Ghost Market.”
“Gh-Ghost Market?” I widened my eyes in disbelief.
Wen Ye nodded, took out a car key and a thin white rope from his pocket, and handed them to me as if it were nothing.
I asked in confusion, “Where did you get the car? What’s this rope?”
The car key was for a white and blue luxury car brand, with a fluffy white fox keychain attached.
“We’ll often need a car when we’re out and about, so the office bought one for me today, to save us the trouble of bothering others in the future,” Wen Ye said casually, as if buying a car was like buying groceries.
“You went to buy a car today?”
“Why didn’t you reply to my messages? I waited…” I rubbed the white car key, hesitating to speak.
He coldly snorted, explaining with a hint of pride: “The car is registered in your name, so I had to take care of some paperwork, and then the office sent some information tonight, so I went to verify it… I’m still not used to using the phone, hmph, who would be as bored as you anyway.”
“Registered in my name? I can’t accept such an expensive car…” I nervously tapped my fingers together, looking up at him shyly, “Aren’t you afraid I’ll run away with the car?”
“Run? Le Xiaomai, where can you run to?” He looked down at me with pride, warning, “If you dare to run away before things are done, I’ll catch you and break your legs!”
I smiled obsequiously: “I was just kidding, I know you’re all-powerful.”
“You can drive the car for now, it seems like there are still some formalities to complete, so troublesome!”
I was so excited I wanted to jump up and cheer. I, Le Xiaomai, am now a car owner too! And it’s a luxury brand that I would have to save for years to afford!
After the excitement came regret, as I realized I had misunderstood him leaving home without a word.
Thwack—a flash of lightning went through my head.
I suddenly looked up, moved closer to Wen Ye, narrowed my eyes, and asked, “Were you jealous yesterday when I rode in Gong Fan’s car?”
Wen Ye’s expression froze, he crossed his arms, tilted his head, and refused to meet my gaze: “Le Xiaomai, you’re so full of yourself! Who would be jealous of you!”
I was secretly delighted, not angry at all, deliberately using my hand to turn his face straight, waving the white rope in my hand, and said smugly: “Isn’t this the rope that goes on the safety amulet? Why is it white? Is it made of your fox fur!”
The rope was braided very coarsely, with some prickly hairs, but it was white with a shimmering luster, and the texture was very similar to the fur on his fox ears, it must be braided with his hair!
Wen Ye’s ears began to turn red, and he leaned back, slapping his hand on my face to push me away.
He snatched the rope from my hand and hid it behind his back, angrily saying, “Le Xiaomai! I really can’t be too nice to you, you’re taking advantage of me again! Go buy one yourself!”
I broke free from his clutches, reaching out to snatch it back: “You already gave it to me, it’s mine now, give it back.”
“When did I say I was giving it to you!” He frowned, denying it.
“You handed it to me, that means you tacitly gave it to me!” I knelt on the sofa, put my hands on my hips, and glared at him, planning to take the opportunity to snatch it back.
As I lunged forward, he suddenly fell backward, his left hand on my shoulder, losing his balance.
I fell directly into his arms, and he subconsciously raised one hand to prevent me from getting the rope, and the other hand protected my back.
And my forehead rested right against his lips.
Thump-thump—thump-thump—
I didn’t know if it was my heartbeat or Wen Ye’s heartbeat, or both of ours. All the surrounding sounds disappeared, with only the thumping sound about to jump out of my throat.
After a few seconds of silence, I heard Wen Ye grinding his teeth, and he seemed about to push me away.
“Le! Xiao! Mai!”
This was the time to display my thick-skinned qualities.
So, I quickly cupped his face, gave him a light kiss on his forehead, and said lightly, “It’s just a kiss, I don’t care for it, here, have it back.”
Before he could react, I hooked the rope from his hand and quickly escaped the eye of the storm.
My heart was bursting with joy, and I skipped and jumped to the walk-in closet, using the fastest speed of my life to put on the rope and wear the safety amulet around my neck.
Phew—now you can’t take it back!
——————
Because of my pure Yang blood, I naturally have some resistance to venom. An ordinary person would easily die from such a deep scratch from a fox spirit if not treated in time.
But some venom still invaded my body, and it had to be extracted as soon as possible, otherwise it would attack my internal organs and seven souls.
The car was white. Zhao Yanzu said that we should be low-key when we go out and shouldn’t drive too expensive a car, so he let Wen Ye choose a car for around four hundred thousand.
Listen to that, four hundred thousand is low-key in his eyes!
When will I be able to speak so grandly!
Wen Ye sneered at my statement: “Although the office makes money quickly, but mages always intervene in Yin and Yang, interfering with other people’s karma, this kind of money should not be kept on oneself. Spending money and giving away wealth in the Yin and Yang circle is also a way to eliminate sins.”
This is the same as businessmen making a lot of money and doing public welfare donations.
Since ancient times, coins have passed through countless hands and carry strong Yang energy and power. Once money quickly flows into a person’s hands, it is easy to be backfired if it is not distributed or circulated.
And donating money, doing public welfare, and helping others are acts of merit, and such distribution of wealth is accumulating good fortune.
“Cultivators don’t value money, they neither covet enjoyment nor act as hoarders… Le Xiaomai, with your money-grubbing personality, you’re really not suitable for cultivation.” He sat leisurely in the passenger seat, glancing at me with disdain.
The car was crawling along the road to the Ghost Market.
Wen Ye was sitting next to me, and I was a little nervous and flustered, but I didn’t forget to retort, “That’s because I was penniless for four years in college and suffered a lot of snobbery, I’m afraid of being poor.”
“By the way, I’ve always had a question I wanted to ask you,” I changed the subject, eagerly seeking knowledge.
“Speak.”
“What exactly are the dragon spirit, cat spirit from my great-grandmother’s house, and the fox spirit that appeared today? Are they different from monsters?”
