The Villain’s Ex-Girlfriend Was Reborn Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Bending down, Shen Yan picked up the necklace from the ground and said lightly:“You can just throw it away.” After speaking, she forcefully yanked the necklace apart and threw it into a nearby trash can.

In the breeze, Shen Yan’s skirt and dark hair fluttered, and a strand of hair unknowingly blew into the collar of Meng Yi’an’s shirt, entangling with his clothes. Shen Yan continued, “After all, my feelings are cheap, and everything I gave you was insincere.”

Her tone was remarkably calm, as though she were talking about someone else’s matter. Meng Yi’an had long made Shen Yan develop a heart that couldn’t feel pain, so when he said her feelings were cheap, Shen Yan didn’t even have any emotional fluctuation.

Meng Yi’an’s gaze was cold as he watched Shen Yan walk past him. The two shoulders brushed against each other, but Shen Yan’s steps didn’t falter in the slightest.

He reached out and grabbed Shen Yan’s wrist. Narrowing his eyes, he said, “A new trick?”

Shen Yan methodically pried his fingers off one by one and rubbed her wrist as she said, “You are Mr. Meng, the future heir of the Meng family. I am a minor celebrity, an 18th-tier star. I know I don’t deserve you. It was my mistake to even think about getting back together with you.”

After saying this, Shen Yan sighed and continued walking forward.

Meng Yi’an watched as Shen Yan entered the hotel, his eyes falling on the broken necklace nearby that hadn’t been thrown into the trash.

Back in her room, Shen Yan sat cross-legged on the sofa and started reading the script. She even twisted open a bottle of mineral water to drink in her spare time.

Although Chen Fei was a palace drama, since it was a small-budget web series, the dialogue was easy to follow and not difficult to memorize.

Shen Yan quickly scanned through the lines, looking focused.

Zhou Ruo asked the driver to drive the nanny car back to find He Han. On the way, Zhou Ruo saw He Han wiping away tears as she walked back. Zhou Ruo hurriedly ordered the car to stop.

Getting out of the car, Zhou Ruo said, “Are you still in kindergarten? Do you need roll call to know when to get in the car?”

Because Zhou Ruo’s tone was too severe, He Han felt even more wronged but still replied, “Sorry, Zhou Jie, I won’t do it again next time.”

Zhou Ruo snapped, “Get in the car!”

With her nails digging into her skin, He Han smiled and followed Zhou Ruo into the car.

Zhou Ruo still had things to attend to, so she gave Shen Yan and He Han a few instructions before heading back. Once only Shen Yan and He Han were left in the room, they each focused on their own tasks, neither of them speaking.

Before dinner, the assistant director informed everyone in the crew that there would be a group dinner today, hosted by the screenwriter and director.

Shen Yan wanted to continue reading the script, but since she was new to the crew, it wouldn’t be appropriate to skip a group gathering like this. So, she put the script aside, changed into a loose, casual outfit, and tied her long hair up.

Compared to Shen Yan, He Han was much more refined, even changing into a new brand-name dress. However, when she stood in front of the casually dressed Shen Yan, she still lost out.

Shen Yan wasn’t interested in He Han’s thoughts; what she wanted was to be an actress, not a decoration.

The crew’s dinner was at a BBQ restaurant near the film city. The assistant director, thinking of himself as Shen Yan’s mentor, waited outside the restaurant for her.

The assistant director waved his hand. “Shen Yan.”

Shen Yan walked up and greeted him politely. The assistant director glanced at He Han behind Shen Yan, paused for a moment, and then said, “This must be your agent, right? Then she can join us too.”

In a film crew, many people are involved, but only key staff members can eat with the director. The rest are seated at separate tables.

He Han’s smile froze immediately. She gritted her teeth and said, “Assistant director, I…” She wanted to refuse the assistant director. She didn’t want to join this crew dinner.

The assistant director said, “Alright, no need to thank me. It’s because you’re Shen Yan’s agent. If you weren’t, I wouldn’t have helped you. If you want to thank someone, thank Shen Yan.”

Thank Shen Yan?

He Han stood there, speechless, but the assistant director was getting impatient. He Han forced a smile and turned to Shen Yan. After holding it in for a while, she finally said, “Yan Yan, thank you.”

The assistant director saw He Han had thanked Shen Yan, then turned to Shen Yan and said, “You must perform well. I think if you do well, Director Li won’t make me pass out the boxed meals.”

Shen Yan: “………”

This assistant director was nice to her, but Shen Yan was still wondering why. She didn’t expect his thinking to be so different. What did he mean by her performing well, and Director Li wouldn’t make him pass out boxed meals?

Shen Yan replied seriously, “This has nothing to do with how well I perform. It mainly depends on whether the director wants you to stop being the assistant director passing out boxed meals.”

The assistant director laughed loudly, “Hahahahahaha.”

Shen Yan: “………” This assistant director was something else.

He Han, following behind them, watched them laugh and chat, walking forward with a stiff back.

The crew members had all arrived, and there were several tables, but Shen Yan and the others were eating in a private room. It was lively with so many people, but also a bit noisy. Shen Yan barely ate, as the assistant director kept chatting with her, telling her how he thought she would become famous in the entertainment industry.

While Shen Yan wanted to eat, she ended up eating little. But He Han didn’t care for eating. She wanted someone to pamper her, or for her to pamper someone else. However, the main leads, both male and female, along with the supporting cast, had already bonded and were chatting together. He Han could only sit there and eat.

Shen Yan was different from He Han. Although Shen Yan was also new to the crew, people thought she had a close relationship with the assistant director, so other crew members greeted her.

The female lead of “Chen Fei,” Xia Qin, was a complete newcomer, professionally trained. She got the role of the female lead because she had auditioned for the web drama “Chen Fei.”

She squeezed beside Shen Yan and raised an eyebrow, “Shen Yan, in the drama, I’ve exiled you to the frontier, but outside the drama, we can’t hate each other because of that, okay?”

After saying that, Xia Qin turned to He Han and said, “Let’s switch seats. You go to mine.”

He Han stood up abruptly. She wanted to leave.

Xia Qin sat down. “Thanks.”

Shen Yan smiled, and Xia Qin next to her froze because when Shen Yan smiled, her eyes sparkled, as if they contained starlight.

Xia Qin: “Shen Yan, you have such a beautiful smile.”

Shen Yan was taken aback.

Yan Yan, you have such a beautiful smile.

This was something Meng Yi’an once told Shen Yan.

Soon, Shen Yan started chatting with Xia Qin. When Shen Yan spoke, she was calm and composed, making people feel very comfortable.

He Han sat next to the male lead and tried to build a connection with him, even managing to have a few conversations.

By the time they finished dinner and returned, it was already past 9 PM. If it weren’t for needing to shoot the next day, they could have stayed longer.

The BBQ restaurant was close to the hotel, and since Shen Yan and He Han had walked there, they planned to walk back as well since it was so close and didn’t need a taxi.

The assistant director said, “Shen Yan, get in the car. I’ll give you a ride back to the hotel. It’s better than walking back…”

Inside the car were the assistant director, the director, and some other staff who had all come in the same vehicle.

Shen Yan replied, “No need. I can walk back myself. It’s close, and I need to buy a few things.” After turning down the assistant director, Shen Yan continued walking toward the hotel.

Many of the film sets at the film city shoot overnight, so the roads were filled with people, especially extras.

Shen Yan walked while mentally reviewing the lines she had memorized earlier. Thankfully, she could still recall them. When she got back, she’d look over the script again before going to bed.

He Han ran in front of Shen Yan, pushed her, and then snarled, “Shen Yan, do you know how annoying you are?”

Shen Yan clearly had the same status as her in the entertainment industry, but why did it feel like everyone was helping Shen Yan deal with her?

Shen Yan stumbled a few steps before steadying herself. She smiled and said, “I really like myself. Besides, why should I care whether an insignificant person likes me or not?”

“You did it on purpose, letting the assistant director take your side, right?” He Han sneered, “I only told you I was the pre-chosen one, but you played the role of Lan Fei. Why are you treating me like this?”

Shen Yan asked, “What if I hadn’t come to the audition?”

This question left He Han speechless. If Shen Yan hadn’t come to the audition, she wouldn’t have been able to play the role of Lan Fei. But soon, He Han snapped back to reality and replied, “But there’s no ‘what if.’ You came to the audition, and when we were on set, you acted like you didn’t know me.”

Shen Yan said, “Wait a minute.” She walked a few steps forward, then directly pushed He Han. He Han fell to the ground, and Shen Yan gave her a quick glance before continuing to walk forward.

Having a second chance at life meant living it well. She couldn’t let people bully her or make her feel wronged. She couldn’t waste this opportunity to be reborn.

He Han: “Ahhh, Shen Yan!”

Outside the meeting room at the Meng Group.

Assistant Wu paced back and forth, holding a box with a necklace inside. This was the necklace that Meng Yi’an had thrown away. He was worried that Meng Yi’an might want to find it later and take it out on him, so he had picked it up and had it repaired.

Now, the problem was how to return the necklace to Meng Yi’an. Should he just give it to him and say with a smile, “Mr. Meng, I found your necklace”?

Assistant Wu feared that Meng Yi’an might ask him to resign over this.

As the meeting was about to wrap up, Assistant Wu thought it over and then rushed to Meng Yi’an’s office. He placed the necklace, still in its box, on Meng Yi’an’s desk.

Now, it was no longer his concern if Meng Yi’an decided to throw the necklace away or keep it. If Meng Yi’an asked, he could just pretend not to know anything.
