Chapter 69: You Seem to Have Forgotten Something Important

Fortunately, things weren’t completely doomed—at most, just forty percent doomed. What a relief.

Both sides, after mistakenly attacking the wrong people, fought fiercely. But the more they fought, the more they realized something was off.

Wait, this guy is predicting my moves?!

What the—he even predicted that I’d predict his moves and dodged again?!

No, something’s wrong. This feels too familiar. My attack just now was like I was predicting that he’d predict me, but I failed to predict it correctly?!

An entire battle of preemptive predictions unfolded.

At last, both sides recognized each other.

At that moment, the Beta instructor wished he could go back a few minutes and slap that Imperial Alpha who had disguised himself as a Federation soldier to death!

As expected of the Empire—cunning, deceitful!

“Ahem.” The Beta instructor cleared his throat and put on a serious face. “Of course, I noticed this earlier. I was merely testing you all.”

“It seems you still have a lot to learn—you couldn’t even identify a real spy.”

The freshman Alphas: “……”

Just because you’re an instructor doesn’t mean we’ll believe everything you say.

After the misunderstanding was resolved, the instructors and students joined forces, along with the excited freshmen Alphas eager to prove themselves.

One after another, the Imperial soldiers were eliminated.

Outside, the Federation military academy instructors quickly sealed off all exits, capturing the remaining Imperial infiltrators.

The virtual battlefield gradually returned to order.

Earlier, after the Imperials were exposed, the entry channels into the virtual environment were locked. Soon after, the system was hit by an unknown magnetic disturbance, disrupting signals and disabling surveillance entirely.

Now that some Imperial soldiers had been dealt with, the Beta instructors deployed several mini-broadcasting devices, projecting the battlefield onto the surveillance screens outside.

The Alpha instructors, who had been anxiously downing water to calm their nerves, finally breathed a sigh of relief.

“Have 03 and 04 been secured?”

“Reporting! All Imperial infiltrators in the 03 and 04 mental link rooms have been restrained!”

“Notify the medical team—administer the second recovery injection to the Alphas with mental strain!”

“Understood! Executing immediately!”

As the instructors calmly issued orders, something unexpected happened on one of the broadcasting devices.

A face suddenly appeared on screen—zoomed in.

A young Alpha with curly chestnut-colored hair curiously leaned in, crescent-shaped eyes blinking, as he picked up the broadcasting device and began examining it.

The operator: “……”

This Alpha scared him half to death.

“Is there a data error again?”

One instructor, noticing the operator’s reaction, immediately sensed something was off. His words drew the attention of the other instructors.

“No, no! Just a minor situation—the data is fine!” the operator quickly reassured.

But one of the instructors recognized the face on the screen.

“Oh? It’s that kid.”

Instructor Xishan leaned over, curious. “What’s he doing with the broadcasting device?”

“The military’s equipment got upgraded, right? Maybe he’s just curious,” another instructor chuckled. “It’s just a broadcasting device. If he’s that interested in tech, why not join my unit and study nuclear weapons? Imagine how cool—just one shot and—”

“Wait, no—he looks like he’s trying to say something!”

Xishan interrupted, pointing at the screen, his face surprised.

The curly-haired Alpha glanced around, making sure it was safe. Then he tapped the screen with his finger—as if he had something important to say.

The instructors tensed up.

Could it be…? Were there still spies hiding in the area?!

A sudden realization struck them, and the entire monitoring room fell silent.

Instructor Aiger’s expression turned grim. He raised his hand and ordered with a stern voice, “Stop all current actions! Do not make a sound! Patrol units in 03 and 04, stand by! If anything seems off, immediately neutralize any Imperial infiltrators still resisting!”

In an instant, you could hear a pin drop.

Everyone held their breath, staring at Ji Laili on the screen.

They watched with intense focus, hearts pounding.

The Alpha moved his lips—the instructors strained to listen.

Ji Laili finally spoke.

“Hey, hey, instructors, can you hear me?”

“The Imperials who broke in have already been taken care of, but… it seems like you guys forgot something important.”

The instructors’ faces grew even more serious.

Something important…?

The next second, Ji Laili’s calm and crisp voice came through the broadcast.

“Instructors, did you forget… we’re still in the middle of an exam?”

“Now that the enemy is gone, shouldn’t the exam continue?”

He sighed dramatically.

“If it doesn’t continue, what’s going to happen to my first place?”

The instructors: “……”

At that moment, even as Alphas, they desperately wanted to cuss.

Why are Alphas like this?!

Is first place the only thing in your damn head?!

Ji Laili, satisfied with his message, let go of the broadcasting device and returned to the group.

“What’s up? Why are you grinning so much?”

“Zhai-ge.” Ji Laili’s eyes curved into a smile. “I was just thinking… maybe we’ll get another battle soon.”

He winked playfully, flashing a bright white smile.

“What else would he be smiling about? Have you ever seen him not smiling?”

Lei Po walked over with his hands in his pockets, chin raised slightly.

He wasn’t interested in the conversation and stretched his sore arms, bored. “Those Alphas aren’t even strong enough to take one of my punches.”

But Zhai Yifei seemed thoughtful. He analyzed Ji Laili’s words and his eyes gleamed with amusement. “I thought you didn’t care about rankings.”

Ji Laili muttered, “I usually don’t… but this time is an exception.”

He tilted his head toward Shen Yu’s direction.

The young man stood alone, his cold and distant demeanor unapproachable.

His navy-blue visor concealed most of his face, revealing only his well-shaped red lips and sharp, delicate jawline.

Perhaps because of this, some Alphas thought they had a chance—a few even boldly approached him.

Ji Laili snorted quietly.

Hah. These Alphas just don’t get it—his little butterfly wouldn’t give them the time of day.

Sure enough, Shen Yu coldly rejected their advances, his expression frosty.

Ji Laili’s lips curled into a smirk.

“Told you so. You guys didn’t stand a chance.”

Seriously, why even try?

And…

He mumbled, “Why haven’t the instructors started yet? This makes it look like I abandoned him over there, just standing there watching from afar…”

So well-behaved. So pitiful.

“Start what?” Lei Po asked, confused.

Soon, Ji Laili didn’t need to explain.

The Beta instructor’s voice boomed through the area.

“Since the Imperial soldiers have been dealt with, the exam will now continue!”

“All 236 remaining Alphas—elimination round begins in one minute!”

Lei Po finally understood.

The real battle was about to begin.

Now that the mutant setting was gone, every remaining Alpha—still high on adrenaline—had fire in their eyes.

“For the next ten minutes, this battlefield is yours.”
