Chapter 73: He Won’t Give Ji Laili a Chance to Refuse

“Let’s begin.”

Shen Yu’s cold voice pulled the medical team out of their scattered thoughts. The Beta doctor quickly responded and pushed the syringe forward.

The needle swiftly pierced the back of Ji Laili’s neck, drawing blood.

The slight sting on his nape made Ji Laili groggily open his eyes, only to see Shen Yu’s cold yet beautiful face.

For a moment, he thought he was dreaming and instinctively tried to lean in for a closer look.

A finger pressed against his forehead. Shen Yu spoke in a low voice, “Don’t move, we’re drawing blood.”

Blood draw… What blood draw? Why were they taking his blood?

Ji Laili, too sleepy to think, simply gave up on figuring it out.

Instead, he leaned comfortably against the faintly scented crook of Shen Yu’s neck.

His nose brushed against the pale, translucent skin, and he sniffed like a little puppy.

Mmm… It was the familiar scent. No mistake—it was his little butterfly!

The medical team then had the rare privilege of witnessing Shen Yu’s face turn red in a second.

His whole body stiffened, his expression flickered, and his eyelashes trembled slightly.

His lips pressed tightly together, as if trying to suppress something unbearable.

The sight was so alarming that the medical team nearly considered giving him an injection as well.

Shen Yu: “……”

Fortunately, his years of cold and distant demeanor were deeply ingrained in everyone’s perception.

Hearing that he was fine, the medical team dared not insist, only exchanging hesitant glances.

Finally, they sighed in regret.

“I knew it. You Alphas are all stubborn and refuse to receive proper treatment.”

“Seems like… that thing… what was it called?”

“Medical Room Anxiety?”

Shen Yu calmly responded, “Medical Room Shame Syndrome.”

“That’s a great term!” The Beta doctor exclaimed in delight, wanting to chat more. But when they looked up, they only caught the sight of Shen Yu helping Ji Laili out.

Shen Yu didn’t want Ji Laili to stay there any longer.

Like every Alpha with medical room shame, Shen Yu felt uncomfortable around the medical team.

After his secondary gender differentiation, he disliked these places even more.

Those cold silver needles and syringes reminded him of unpleasant things.

It was only because Ji Laili had repeatedly urged him that he would even step into a medical room.

Outside, Ji Laili was still so sleepy that he could collapse on the spot. He mumbled weakly, “This is too exhausting…”

“I just want to sleep…”

Shen Yu replied in an unreadable tone, “Hold onto my shoulder, I’ll take you back to sleep.”

Ji Laili, completely unsuspecting, blinked. “Eh? That good?”

Without a second thought, he agreed immediately. Even though he could barely keep his eyes open, he still tried his best to praise Shen Yu.

“Shen Yu, you’re such a good person.”

“It’s so great being friends with you.”

The faint curve at the corner of Shen Yu’s lips faded. “Let’s go.”

Though he said “hold onto me,” he also placed Ji Laili’s hand over his shoulder, ready to support him.

But Ji Laili was too self-conscious to put his full weight on him and tried to keep some distance.

I can’t just fall asleep like this.

Just a little longer… just a little longer…

Why is the road so winding?

Ji Laili felt his vision spinning into dizzying swirls. He was in a daze when—

Thud.

His head tilted to the left, landing right into a soft, fragrant neck.

Snuggling comfortably, he nuzzled in satisfaction and fell asleep.

Shen Yu, who had deliberately taken multiple detours, glanced down, gently stroking Ji Laili’s hair.

Without hesitation, he carried him straight back to his own dorm.

The journey was smooth—except for a small hiccup at the entrance.

With the sleeping pup still on his shoulder, Shen Yu struggled to scan his fingerprint.

In that brief pause, a trembling voice came from behind.

“Shen… Shen senior?”

Shen Yu turned back, his expression cool. Two Alphas stood frozen in place, wide-eyed.

“It really is you, Senior Shen! And on your shoulder—”

Judging by their reaction, they knew Ji Laili. They had called out to Shen Yu because of him.

Once Shen Yu turned around, they barely spared him a glance, instead staring at Ji Laili with strange, complex expressions.

“What happened to him?” One of them asked.

Shen Yu replied flatly, “He’s asleep.”

Asleep?

The two exchanged looks, both seeing the words I don’t believe it in each other’s eyes.

This position was way too suspicious.

It looked exactly like someone knocking another person unconscious before dragging them away for serious punishment.

Didn’t they see how Ji Laili’s wrist was dangling limply?!

Both Alphas took a deep breath and eyed Shen Yu warily.

“Senior Shen, violence on campus isn’t really appropriate, don’t you think?”

“Yeah, maybe you should hand Ji Laili over to us. We can take him back.”

Shen Yu’s face darkened instantly, his eyes growing icily cold.

The two Alphas swallowed nervously but didn’t back down. One of them forced a smile.

“Senior Shen, you must be very busy. There’s no need for you to trouble yourself with this.”

“So noisy.”

Shen Yu’s voice was as cool as jade, his deep black eyes unsettling.

His gaze flickered briefly to Ji Laili’s peacefully sleeping face, then back to the two frozen Alphas.

His tone softened, but still carried a sharp chill.

“I told you—he’s asleep.”

Was… was that a warning?

The two Alphas were dumbstruck.

Shen Yu clearly had no intention of explaining further.

As if even looking at them for a second longer was beneath him, he turned away arrogantly, scanning his fingerprint to unlock the door.

Without hesitation, he carried Ji Laili inside.

BAM.

The door slammed shut mercilessly.

The two Alphas stared at each other.

“Why didn’t you rush in and rescue Ji Laili? Didn’t you say he was a good guy?”

“You nodded in agreement! Why didn’t you go?”

“I would’ve gone if you did! What are you hesitating for?!”

“Hey! What’s that tone? You dare talk to me like that?!”

The two Alphas bickered, then collectively sighed in sympathy for Ji Laili.

“Poor guy. Just got out of the tiger’s den and landed straight into the wolf’s lair.”

As they spoke, they pulled up the school forum.

Someone had to step in and save Ji Laili. They owed him a favor from the last test, after all.

Alphas always repaid their debts.

Shen Yu had no interest in what those fools outside were doing.

He placed Ji Laili onto the bed.

As soon as his fluffy head sank into the soft pillow, his half-exposed face looked incredibly handsome.

Shen Yu didn’t leave.

His damp black eyes stared silently at the sleeping figure.

The air grew heavy with the cold, sweet scent of iris flowers, wrapping around the entire room.

The concentration rose higher and higher, mirroring the deepening satisfaction in Shen Yu’s gaze—

Until—

“Achoo!”

Ji Laili sniffled, barely able to breathe.

In his haze, he saw Shen Yu standing by his bed, watching him with dark eyes.

“Shen Yu… you’re still here?”

A hand gently covered his eyes, shutting out the light, leaving him in darkness.

A quiet, detached voice spoke:

“Sleep. I just want to watch you for a bit longer.”

The rich iris fragrance slowly faded, yet still lingered faintly.

Ji Laili drifted back into sleep.

In the dim room, a shadow remained by the bedside.

No one knew how long he stood there.

Then, a faint light flickered from a communicator.

【Aiger】: I swear, the way you two live together makes it seem like you’re planning a locked-room murder. Can you even hold yourself back?

【Aiger】: Never mind, I’m done meddling. But if Ji Laili doesn’t agree, I won’t step in.

Shen Yu’s gaze remained calm and steady.

He wouldn’t give Ji Laili a chance to refuse.
