Eugene curled his lips into a smirk, lifted his chin, and arrogantly declared, “That’s right, it’s me.”
He seemed quite pleased with the dramatic effect of his entrance, exuding an air of superiority while completely ignoring the others. His gaze was fixed solely on Ji Laili.
Ji Laili blinked. “Senior Eugene?”
He asked in confusion, “What are you doing here?”
“Heh.” A disdainful chuckle rolled from Eugene’s throat. Ji Laili, even more perplexed, followed his line of sight and saw it had shifted to the two standing beside him.
Eugene looked at Lei Po and Zhai Yifei with an arrogant expression. “You two… not bad.”
Lei Po, Zhai Yifei: “?”
Lei Po was the first to snap, scoffing coldly. “You trying to act like my old man or something?”
From Ji Laili’s perspective, if it weren’t for the fear of drawing too much attention, Po-ge probably would’ve already thrown a punch.
And as for why… Ji Laili recalled the last time Lei Po had been covered head to toe in those special bullets, and he had to stifle his laughter. Keeping a straight face, he nodded seriously and backed up Lei Po’s words.
“Yeah, Po-ge is right.”
“What’s with the act? You don’t even come close to my bro.”
It was a compliment with absolutely no finesse, but Lei Po still couldn’t help the smug grin tugging at his lips.
“There’s nothing impressive about that, Laili. You’re no fun at all,” Lei Po chuckled, raising an eyebrow and letting go of his anger in an instant.
Zhai Yifei didn’t even bother looking.
Ji Laili nodded along, then turned back to Eugene. “Senior Eugene, why are you here?” He glanced toward Shen Yu.
Could he still be holding a grudge over what happened before? Was he here to stir up trouble?
“Why am I here?” Eugene’s lips curled into a confident, determined smile.
“Take a guess.”
Ji Laili: “…”
The boy’s half-lidded eyes locked onto Eugene, his voice flat. “Senior, you don’t actually think you’re being funny, do you?”
“Stop changing the subject!”
Eugene’s expression screamed, I’ve already seen through you, as he scoffed in disdain. “What about you? Why are you here?”
“I’m obviously here for training.”
“Training, huh? Then why is Shen Yu here too? What are you two scheming?” Eugene’s gaze was sharp. “Wherever you are, Shen Yu is too.”
Ji Laili: “…It’s just a coincidence.”
Eugene sneered. “Coincidence? That might fool others, but someone has already figured out the truth!”
His gaze suddenly flicked to Zhai Yifei and Lei Po.
“?”
Zhai Yifei frowned. “Senior Eugene, aren’t you here as a teaching assistant?”
“So what if I am?”
Eugene chuckled arrogantly. “With my skills, securing a teaching assistant position is only natural. If it weren’t for uncovering the conspiracy between these two, you wouldn’t have had the honor of seeing me here.”
“You guys should be grateful—having me teach you Alphas is like hitting the jackpot.”
His words dripped with conceit.
Zhai Yifei replied smoothly, “Then I suggest senior put aside his savior complex and head to the medical ward to get his brain checked before coming back.”
Zhai Yifei flashed a slight smile, his gaze sweeping over Eugene with a lazy indifference, as if speaking to a particularly annoying fool.
“After all, the entire academy knows about Laili and Shen Yu’s antagonistic relationship.”
Only Eugene seemed to be in some sort of manic delusion, ranting all over the forums that they were secretly together.
“What did you say?!”
Eugene snapped his head toward Zhai Yifei, his once-arrogant expression cracking with disbelief. “You—you already suspected they were involved, didn’t you?”
Ji Laili quickly cut in. “What do you mean involved? Don’t twist things—we’re just friends!”
“Shut up!” Eugene suddenly exploded, shouting at him.
Even the instructor’s face darkened.
What the hell was going on? Were they all here just to cause trouble?
Before the instructor could step in and grab Eugene, Eugene suddenly lunged forward like a tiger pouncing on its prey—straight at Lei Po, who had been standing there with his arms crossed, watching the show.
Lei Po’s brow twitched, but before he could dodge, Eugene had already grabbed his collar and was violently shaking him.
“And you? You don’t understand me either, do you?!”
Lei Po: “?”
He couldn’t help but curse, “Damn! Let go of me, get away from me!”
Eugene was utterly shaken. “Didn’t you say that the way he looks at Shen Yu is suspicious?!”
“And that his lack of energy today has something to do with Shen Yu?!”
Lei Po scoffed, “Yeah, that’s why I told him to beat Shen Yu up. What’s the problem?”
Eugene almost lost his breath. He let go of Lei Po’s collar and turned his interrogation elsewhere, his gaze sharp and severe as he looked at Zhai Yifei.
“You! What about—‘be more restrained’?”
“‘Make your move sooner’?”
“‘Your intentions toward Shen Yu are too obvious’?”
The more Eugene spoke, the more sweat dripped down Ji Laili’s forehead.
The surrounding Alphas all had gossipy expressions, and even the instructor perked up his ears.
Damn, this is way too intense.
“What’s the problem?”
Lei Po was getting annoyed. “They just lived together and had a fight. Ji Laili’s punch on Shen Yu was too light!”
In an instant, the Alphas all turned to look at Shen Yu, their focus shifting to the dark circles under his eyes. Suddenly, everything clicked—so that’s how he got them!
They had almost been fooled into thinking they were just normal dark circles.
Come to think of it, what could Shen Yu have possibly done to stay up late enough to get dark circles?
His strength was already at the top tier. If he were still training hard enough to develop them, that would be too much of a stretch.
Shen Yu swept his gaze coldly across the Alphas. Just by looking at their expressions, he knew exactly what they were thinking.
His dark eyes turned icy, full of displeasure.
Senior Shen was about to put an end to this farce.
But then—
The gossip-hungry Alphas widened their eyes in realization.
“Damn, intense!”
“Ji Laili’s lips are even a little bruised—this is way too intense!”
“Bruised? Holy crap!” Another Alpha leaned back in shock.
“How the hell did you even notice that? Dude, that’s insane.”
“Don’t underestimate my top-tier investigation skills. A little lip bruise is nothing.”
“Pfft… stop acting all high and mighty. Move aside! Let me take a look!”
Seeing the investigator receive so much admiration, the other Alphas couldn’t sit still.
“I’m a max-level healer, a top-tier support. Based on my professional judgment, Ji Laili’s injury was definitely caused by friction. His lips are even swollen.”
“This is what you call top-tier healing? You’re trash—let me explain.”
“His lips must have gone through multiple rounds of friction. The wound is on the corner of the lower lip, and judging by the extent of the damage, Shen Yu seems really fixated on this spot. He just kept going for it.”
The competitive Alphas refused to back down, jumping in one after another.
They each took turns making their own judgments on the state of Ji Laili’s bruised lips.
Every sentence made Ji Laili’s shame levels skyrocket.
He stared, dumbfounded, touching his lips in disbelief.
He quietly licked them.
His tongue brushed over the spot, and a barely noticeable sting followed.
He sighed and spread his hands helplessly. “Guys, it’s just a little wound. I could’ve bitten myself, you know?”
The Alphas all turned their heads in unison, their gazes turning dangerous.
“So you’re saying… we were wrong?”
Ji Laili: “……”
He turned to Shen Yu, silently pleading for help, hoping the untouchable, godlike senior would step in and put an end to this nonsense.
But the moment Shen Yu met his gaze, his lips pressed together, his eyelashes fluttered slightly, and he immediately looked away.
In fact, while the Alphas had been making their observations, his expression remained calm and beautiful—but his ears were slowly turning red.
Put a stop to this?
Senior Shen Yu wasn’t stopping anything.
Instead, with the poise of a consecutive first-place champion, he was quietly absorbing all the information and reviewing it like a dedicated student.
