Chapter 89: I Really Don’t Know How to Release Pheromones
“That’s it!” He clapped his palm, his eyes lighting up with joy as if he had just found the answer. “That must be the reason!”
Beta young lady: Something about this feels… off.
Ji Laili squinted his eyes and grinned. “So it’s just heatiness! No wonder my self-healing ability isn’t working. This is an illness!”
Just like his rhinitis.
Speaking of which, he originally thought his rhinitis would improve after coming here.
But it didn’t.
His body’s genes had been enhanced, but some ailments seemed to have been strengthened as well, stubbornly lingering inside him.
Which is why, no matter where you are, doctors are indispensable.
No wonder the domineering CEO always befriends doctors—it really is foresight.
As expected of a capitalist.
Ji Laili clasped his hands together, his eyes sparkling. “Can you help me find some medicine to reduce the heatiness?”
Beta young lady (who just got hit right in the heart): !!!
I finally understand why Alphas love sweet Omegas so much.
The Beta young lady beamed like a flower, rubbing Ji Laili’s curly hair. “Of course! Wait here, I’ll go find some for you.”
She completely forgot that something felt off, fully indulging in the sweetness of this Alpha’s request.
But before she could find the medicine, someone grabbed Ji Laili and dragged him away, muttering anxiously, “Quick, quick! I can’t believe I forgot about this!”
“X-Xishan Instructor?”
Ji Laili’s eyes widened.
“It’s me!”
Xishan panted heavily.
“Wait, hold on! Laili’s medicine!” The Beta young lady shouted from behind. Ji Laili’s pupils shrank. “Oh right, my medicine!”
Before he could even turn around, he was being dragged into a full sprint.
“You can get it later! Right now, there’s something important happening. The meeting is about to start! If you don’t show up, both of us are doomed!”
“…What meeting?”
As he was being dragged at high speed, Ji Laili looked utterly confused.
After running all the way there, Xishan finally stopped, panting so hard he could barely speak. “You’ll… huff… huff… know once we get there…”
Ji Laili: “……”
How unreliable.
The two of them finally arrived at the meeting room. Xishan shoved Ji Laili into the last seat, then pulled out a chair for himself across from him, finally breathing a sigh of relief.
“Uh, Instructor, are you okay?”
Ji Laili glanced at the long conference table filled with instructors, lowering his voice to ask Xishan.
“Huff… I’m fine… we made it just in time.”
Xishan patted his chest.
“Then can you tell me what this meeting is about?” Ji Laili looked around the room with curiosity—there were so many instructors.
A lot of familiar faces too. Ji Laili had seen many of them during various training sessions.
Suddenly, his gaze met Ferro’s, who smiled slightly at him. Ji Laili hesitated for a moment before returning the smile and turning his head away.
Philo is here too…
Which means this must be an advanced-level meeting.
Xishan confirmed his suspicion. “Yeah, it’s something big—about the Alpha gland incident.”
Ji Laili’s expression grew serious. “There’s been progress?”
Xishan nodded.
“That’s great.” Ji Laili was genuinely happy. But halfway through, he realized something was off.
“What does this have to do with me? I mean, I know a bit about it, but this seems way above my level?”
He raised his doubts. After all, everyone around him was an instructor.
Under his questioning gaze, Xishan’s expression became a bit… strange.
He looked at Ji Laili with a mix of sympathy and regret.
Ji Laili was completely baffled.
“Is everyone here?”
The conference room doors opened automatically, and an elderly yet firm voice echoed in the room. Ji Laili turned his head instinctively.
He saw Aiger walking in, accompanied by an elderly man dressed in a black-and-gold uniform. The man’s hair was graying, but his presence was sharp and commanding.
Ji Laili froze for a moment. His gaze met Aiger’s, but Aiger quickly looked away, his expression still somewhat irritated. “Looks like we’re all here. You can start now, old man.”
The elderly man chuckled and followed Aiger’s gaze, also looking at Ji Laili.
“Looks like the real protagonist has arrived.”
He strode forward, with Aiger following behind, not sparing Ji Laili another glance.
Ji Laili was completely lost.
Wait… am I an important figure in this meeting?
But I haven’t done anything recently…
The Empire hasn’t attacked him.
Other than his lips still aching, nothing unexpected had happened.
Which means… something unexpected is about to happen.
The elderly man smiled warmly at him. “Allow me to introduce myself—I’m Les, the principal of the Federation Military Academy.”
“And the key figure in today’s meeting—”
“Is you.”
Before the meeting starts, there are some things I need to ask you so we can properly supplement the information.
Ji Laili blinked and nodded solemnly. “Alright, I’ll answer seriously.”
Principal Les smiled kindly. “What a good child.”
“Then let’s begin with the first question. When was the last time you… stood up?”
…What?
Ji Laili’s dog-like expression froze in shock. Stood up? Did they mean what he was thinking?
No, no, no, that couldn’t be it. He couldn’t let his mind go there. Recalling his past failures, Ji Laili forced himself to suppress the thought and earnestly asked, “Could you clarify that a bit more?”
Principal Les was momentarily stunned, then shook his head in deep sorrow.
“This is tragic. The Federation’s Alphas have truly suffered. At an age when your blood should be running hot, you can’t even get what I’m saying? This is a disaster!”
“Principal! I told you the report couldn’t be wrong! That data was tested twice—it can’t be mistaken!”
A nearby instructor suddenly slammed the table, startling Ji Laili so much that his curly fur fluffed up. His clear eyes widened in alarm.
“An Alpha who can’t even respond to pheromones—doesn’t that mean he’s frigid?! How is he supposed to live like this?!”
“The Empire bastards! They’re trying to ruin his entire life!”
Another instructor slammed the table and stood up, sending another gust of air that ruffled Ji Laili’s brown curls.
Ji Laili: “…”
“That’s right. An Alpha who can’t even sense pheromones and is unable to mark anyone—can they even be considered an Alpha?”
Philo sighed lightly, looking at Ji Laili with a gaze full of pity. “For an Alpha, this is too cruel.”
The surrounding Alpha instructors all wore faces of deep sympathy.
Ji Laili’s expression gradually turned numb. He… he seemed to have figured out what this meeting was about.
In the next moment, he heard Xishan awkwardly say, “Actually, during your last blood test, your pheromone response showed abnormalities.”
“We tested multiple times, and the results were always the same. We suspect the Empire did something to you, causing your glands to malfunction, preventing you from releasing pheromones.”
Xishan’s voice carried a trace of reluctance and sorrow:
“This is too cruel for an Alpha, which is why I hesitated to tell you.”
Ji Laili: “…”
The little dog was speechless.
You guys are mistaken. I really just don’t know how to release pheromones.
