Chapter 113: Everyone Acting Against Each Other
This move was too wild—Ji Laili was momentarily at a loss for words.
He could only quickly release Lei Po’s hand, give him a slight push, and raise both hands in innocence, speaking righteously, “We’re both Alphas, don’t get so close.”
Lei Po took a few steps forward with the momentum, furrowing his brows and mocking him, “So what if we’re both Alphas? You think I’m gonna do something to you?”
He glanced back at Ji Laili with a provocative look. “Scared like this?”
Ji Laili thought to himself, Po-ge, your acting isn’t bad either, so why are you so suspicious of Little Butterfly?
Catching the script Lei Po had thrown at him, he smoothed out his previously arched brows and restrained his smile. His expression became stern and composed.
“It’s best not to push your luck. Just because I haven’t done anything to you doesn’t mean I’m afraid of you.”
“Want to test it out?”
His sharp gaze swept over, making Lowry, who had just escaped trouble, shudder.
For some reason, he suddenly thought of the Interstellar Police Department, feeling guilty without knowing why. He unconsciously took a step away from Ji Laili.
That uneasy feeling quickly disappeared, though, as the curly-haired man turned to Garna with a bright smile.
“Lord Garna, I didn’t disturb you, did I?”
Garna’s cold and oppressive gaze fell on him, yet Ji Laili didn’t seem affected at all. He smiled innocently and said, “I’ve been observing the whole time. It was this Alpha who came too close first.”
Before Garna could speak, a mocking voice rang out, instantly throwing the scene into chaos.
“Observing? Maybe you two actually know each other?”
Zhai Yifei smirked. “Were you exchanging some kind of secret signal just now?”
“Hah, a secret signal?” Lei Po snorted, as if he had just heard the biggest joke. He scoffed disdainfully, “Me and this curly-haired guy?”
“You must be joking.”
“This guy doesn’t even have a trace of Alpha scent. Why would I know him?”
Lowry: Tsk tsk, that’s some impressive bluffing. Gotta learn from that.
Lei Po, ever the showman, flicked his small ponytail with an air of arrogance. “As an Alpha, I don’t give others the chance to recognize me. They can only see the back of my head.”
Ji Laili’s lips curled up slightly, then he struck back without hesitation.
“Oh? You mean that feather duster sticking up at the back of your head?”
Lowry: Tsk tsk, that’s some impressive trash talk. Gotta learn from that too.
Shen Yu coldly observed the scene. “Can’t even stand properly. Maybe breaking his legs would be better.”
“Huh?” Ji Laili suggested, “That might be a bit much.”
Lowry internally sneered, Oh, so this curly-haired guy actually has a conscience? Guess I was wrong about him before.
“Besides, he hasn’t even started working yet. If we break his legs now, wouldn’t that be a waste of resources? Lord Garna, why not have him work twenty hours a day first? Once he’s completely exhausted, then break his legs. How about that?”
Lowry’s eyes widened as if he were staring at a devil.
“Lord Lance, you agree, don’t you?” Ji Laili turned to Shen Yu and winked.
Shen Yu pressed his lips together, suppressing a smile, and impatiently turned his head away. “Don’t bring me into this.”
Eugene, who had been silent the whole time, was dumbfounded: “…”
Wait… Everyone’s just acting against each other?
I didn’t know you guys were this good at acting—wait a second…!
Eugene suddenly realized something major. His expression turned serious as he glanced left and right. In this chaotic group battle, there was no place for him!
This was unacceptable!
How could they exclude him, Eugene, from the drama?
Determined to join in, Eugene opened his mouth and dropped a bombshell.
“I think he’s into AA romance! He likes Ji—likes Ji Laili!”
“He fell on him on purpose to take advantage! Absolutely disgusting!”
After delivering his line, Eugene smiled smugly, watching Lei Po and Shen Yu’s expressions darken.
There, that should really stir the pot and highlight their bad relationships, right?
Even though Lei Po and Shen Yu now wanted to beat Eugene up, his words had undeniably thrown the scene into even greater chaos.
Garna never expected that such a simple fall would lead to this mess. He had barely started questioning, and these Alphas were already at each other’s throats, looking like they were about to kill each other.
It even wasted his time interrogating Lance.
Annoyed, Garna put out his cigarette. Wen Qiu Shui should really study this helmet better. One minute, and it’s already useless.
He glanced at the Alphas still arguing, then at Lowry, who was just standing there watching the show. Irritated, he barked, “Shut up!”
As soon as he spoke, the Alphas reluctantly (but actually very willingly) fell silent, ending the farce.
It had been too noisy—his brain felt like a bunch of clucking chickens had run through it.
Even with the silence, Garna had completely forgotten what he was supposed to be doing. Absolutely absurd. He exhaled sharply in frustration, his chest rising and falling.
Lowry, who had been waiting for an order all this time, felt odd and spoke eagerly, “Lord Garna, what should we do next?”
Garna shot him a terrifying glare, leaving Lowry baffled.
What now?
“Useless.” Garna spat coldly before his gaze landed on the remaining unused black helmets. “Continue the tests. Next—”
Ji Laili immediately volunteered. “I’ll go, Lord Garna.” His smile deepened. “There’s an annoying person here making me even more disgusted.”
“So I might as well clear my name.”
Garna gave a nonchalant nod. “Get on with it.”
Mission accomplished, Ji Laili’s smile widened as he subtly signaled reassurance to his worried companions.
As he picked up the helmet, he spoke to the system in his mind.
“Brother System, all these helmets are connected to one data source. Can I use my interface to cut off the entire mental link?”
【You can give it a try.】
With that confirmation, Ji Laili put on the helmet. He felt the mental link trying to connect with him, but the next second, something blocked it.
His expression didn’t change, and he curved his lips. “Lord Garna, do you have any questions for me?”
Now that he had severed the mental link, eliminating the risk of exposure, Ji Laili intended to make the most of this interrogation.
Garna seemed to trust the lie-detecting helmet quite a bit. If Ji Laili played his cards right, he might be able to reduce some of their suspicions.
“Why did you join the Empire? Were you sent by the Federation?”
Ji Laili’s tone was light. “Of course not. I have no attachment to the Federation. I joined the Empire because I had nowhere else to go.”
Garna glanced at the helmet’s display—no reaction. He decided to believe him. “Why?”
“…Do I have to say?” Ji Laili cast a glance at Lei Po, his expression turning somber. “Because people always say I don’t have an Alpha presence. That I don’t seem like one.”
“It’s a little depressing, that’s all.”
Lei Po froze. Damn it, Lai Lai, what the hell? I was just talking nonsense, and now you’re using it as an excuse? Wait—the helmet!
His heart pounded as he glanced at the helmet, afraid something had gone wrong.
The black helmet’s central display was still blank—no indication of deception.
Lei Po was stunned. What the hell? Isn’t it supposed to detect lies? Was Garna just bluffing?
No—that didn’t make sense.
Which meant… Ji Laili was telling the truth.
Lei Po stiffened.
