Chapter 134: I Brought the Fire Extinguisher!

The explosion of the lie detector helmet was part of the plan. All it took was modifying some programming before they touched the helmet.

None of the five-member team had the skills for this, but luckily, Ji Laili had a cheat code!

“Brother System, I’ve taken everything apart. What do I do next?”

Sneaking into the lab in the dead of night with his companions, Ji Laili obediently waited for further instructions after dismantling the helmet into a pile of components under the system’s guidance.

The system scanned the scattered pieces on the ground, streams of blue data flashing as it calculated the optimal solution.

【I’ll tell you, and you follow my instructions.】

Ji Laili nodded and began adjusting the components under the system’s guidance. He really had no talent in this area—it took him half a day just to distinguish parts that the system found easily recognizable.

Once he confirmed that the lie detector helmet was now rigged to explode if someone told the truth, Ji Laili breathed a sigh of relief, thanked the system, and turned to get everyone to start working.

“Never knew you had this skill,” Eugene commented, overwhelmed by the components.

Ji Laili’s eyes curved in a smile. “A teacher once taught me a little.”

“Thanks to it, actually.”

“Who?” Eugene asked absentmindedly.

“Hmm, you guys can just call it Brother System.”

Shen Yu glanced over. “Have I met him?”

Ji Laili chuckled. “No, but it knows you’re my favorite person.”

Shen Yu relaxed at that and said no more, focusing on assembling the helmet.

Alpha types had little patience—tiny components, intricate wiring, all of it made Eugene’s head hurt. Suddenly, he had a newfound respect for Ji Laili. No wonder Omega and Beta handled this kind of work.

Not to belittle them, but for the first time, Eugene felt they were truly amazing.

If he got it wrong one more time, he’d crush the whole thing to dust.

Lei Po felt the same, assembling the helmet with a face full of soot. He cursed, “Damn Imperial scum.”

Fearing they’d mess things up further, Ji Laili, Shen Yu, and another companion took over assembling the remaining helmets. They pulled an all-nighter, even adjusting the angles for the most effective explosion and fire spread.

Knowing what would happen in advance, Shen Yu had already prepared small fire extinguishers before entering the lab, ensuring that none of their people inside would be harmed.

The initial explosion had already thrown the researchers into chaos, and the sudden fire only made things worse.

With the sabotage to the sprinkler system, there was no automatic assistance. Smoke, flames, and their injured colleagues pushed them into a complete breakdown.

Shen Yu effortlessly knocked them out and used a fingerprint scanner to unlock the silver cages, freeing the prisoners.

“Put these on,” he said, tossing stripped lab coats at Chi Fei with a hint of disdain. Removing his gloves, he took a new pair from an unburned area and put them on.

Chi Fei, handing out the lab coats to those behind him, glanced at Shen Yu and smirked.

“You always like this? Never get your hands dirty with rough missions?”

Shen Yu shot him a look. “Hurry up. And…” He said coolly, with no shortage of arrogance, “I don’t need to do those missions myself.”

Chi Fei chuckled. “That kind of confidence… You’re starting to look like the Federation’s future admiral.”

Shen Yu: “…”

Admiral? Yeah, right. That was just a joke.

After all, he was just a military academy student.

Still, Chi Fei seemed to enjoy teasing. He remembered the wary, fierce gaze the man had first given him—like a wounded wolf, refusing to show weakness.

With the lab coats on, they somewhat resembled researchers, except for Chi Fei, whose tall frame made him stand out.

“When do we leave?”

Shen Yu calculated the time. “We have enough.”

At his words, Chi Fei, who had been staring at the unconscious researchers, smirked coldly. “Can I beat them up?”

Shen Yu looked at him. “Why do you think I only knocked them out?”

Chi Fei understood. His face was still pale, but his expression darkened as he stepped toward the fallen researchers, a dangerous air around him.

“If you’re giving me this chance, I won’t hold back.”

“You guys don’t want to hit them too?”

Chi Fei clenched his fists, a flash of viciousness in his eyes. His punch came down hard.

“Ugh!” The researcher groaned awake, but before he could fully open his eyes, another punch knocked him back into unconsciousness.

Fist after fist rained down. Each researcher who woke up was immediately beaten unconscious again, their bodies trembling in agony.

Chi Fei flexed his hand, casually dropping one of them, then grabbed another, his voice dark and menacing.

“I’d kill them if I could!”

A small girl suddenly rushed forward, mimicking Chi Fei’s punch. The pain in her hand was nothing compared to what she had endured.

Tears welled up and spilled over, but she gritted her teeth, landing more blows on the researchers.

One by one, the other former “test subjects” followed suit, throwing themselves at the researchers.

The fire spread, flames reflecting in their eyes, burning as fiercely as their hatred.

Screams and pleas for mercy mingled with the crackling blaze.

The portable fire extinguishers worked, suppressing the flames in key areas.

Some people wept silently, but no amount of tears could quench the fire in their hearts.

“To hell with you! I’m not a test subject!”

Chi Fei’s furious roar seemed to pierce through his enemies, tearing them apart.

Exhaling a breath of pent-up rage, he finally said, “Let’s go.”

“You done?” Shen Yu asked.

“What’s the point of just one beating? I’ll come back one day and lock them up so I can beat them every damn day!” Chi Fei growled.

Shen Yu seemed to smile faintly—or maybe not.

He walked toward the worst of the fire, distant shouts filtering through the chaos.

Then, a familiar voice suddenly rang out—

“Move aside, I brought the fire extinguisher!”

It was Ji Laili.

The moment the guards heard that a fire extinguisher had arrived, their captain’s face lit up with relief, as if salvation had come.

Seeing the curly-haired youth running over like a divine savior, he quickly directed his men to clear the way:

“Move to the sides! Make way, quickly!”

The guards surrounding the area stepped aside, instantly widening the path. Ji Laili activated the fire extinguisher and sprayed it upwards. A cloud of white powder scattered like falling petals.

Everyone instinctively raised their hands to shield themselves. The captain coughed, squeezed his eyes shut, and shouted in frustration:

“If you don’t know how to use it, let me do it!”

Ji Laili caught sight of Shen Yu and the researchers in lab coats slipping out through the door in that brief moment. Their eyes met.

With a playful smile, Ji Laili raised his voice, unable to hide the amusement in his tone.

“Sorry, it’s my first time using this!”

“Brother, I’ve got it now—watch me put out the fire properly.”

Yet the so-called “learner” continued spraying wildly into the air, drawing a chorus of complaints.

Through the narrow slits of their squinting eyes, all they could see was a blinding white haze—completely unaware that someone was boldly walking right past them.
