Philo immediately saw through Garna’s intentions but had no interest in what Garna planned to do with Eugene.
That self-important fool—dead or alive—it didn’t matter.
What irked Philo was still Garna’s attitude. His expression remained indifferent, but there was a hint of displeasure in his brows. “Don’t forget, I can’t just contact you at will.”
With the Federation Military Academy conducting strict investigations, it was impossible for him to risk contacting Garna on Nagano Star at a critical moment.
Hearing this, Garna sneered. “Since exposure is inevitable, it would’ve been better to send me the list earlier.”
Then they wouldn’t have been played for fools by Ji Laili, suffering such a devastating blow to their base. Anger surged in his chest as Garna mocked, “Federation people truly are useless.”
Philo’s expression turned cold. He wasn’t going to indulge Garna’s arrogance. “Useless? A man who couldn’t even root out a mole should consider getting a new pair of eyes.”
The two locked eyes through the blue screen, both filled with undisguised disgust.
Disgust aside, business still needed to be handled. Philo suppressed his irritation and said flatly:
“Aiger has been hunting me down lately. That day, I managed to escape his sight thanks to Lei Po.”
“But this ‘protective talisman’ is really stubborn and disobedient.”
That arrogant and reckless Alpha made Philo want to crush him in his hands.
That was his real reason for contacting Garna.
“Come pick me up. The Federation files I sent you are encrypted. Only I know the password.”
“Inside, there’s everything I gathered during my time in the Federation. Given the current situation, the Federation is bound to make a move against the Empire. With this intel, the Empire will have an easier time in future battles.”
Seeing Garna’s face grow colder at the threat, Philo was certain he would send someone to retrieve him.
His foul mood finally improved slightly. With a small smile, he added, “In advance, let me congratulate the Empire on its inevitable victory.”
“Consider that Alpha named Eugene a gift for you to vent your anger.”
Garna stared at him coldly and, right in front of Philo, opened the file he had transmitted. As expected, it required a password.
Scheming Federation rat.
Garna would kill him sooner or later.
As he exited the file, Garna accidentally clicked into the list of undercover agents.
His sinister gaze lingered on the name “Ji Laili” for a moment before moving on. His voice was dark and menacing.
“I’ll retrieve you.”
“As for this Ji Laili—within one minute, I want all his information.”
Philo paused for a second. Rarely acting like a competent secretary, he sent the file within thirty seconds—clearly having prepared it in advance.
Seeing this, Garna sensed something and sneered, “You want him dead too?”
Philo smiled. “Garna, your foresight is truly remarkable.”
Disgusted by Philo’s flattery, Garna’s killing intent surged. He even released his pheromones despite knowing Philo couldn’t smell them through the screen.
With a low growl, he snapped, “Shut up!”
His deep eyes glowed with dangerous light as he warned, “His life is mine to take.”
Philo chuckled. “Looks like we’ve both set our sights on the same target.”
Garna didn’t take him seriously. If one looked closely, they’d see the lingering contempt in his eyes.
“With your strength?”
Philo raised a brow. “And what’s wrong with my strength?”
Having never personally fought Ji Laili, Philo had no clue about his abilities. He only smiled and said, “Just a military academy student, after all.”
“Seems like you’re regressing, if you’ve actually suffered losses at the hands of a student.”
Holding a position as an instructor at the Federation Military Academy, Philo used this as an excuse to mock Garna for a good while before finally dropping the topic.
Garna truly wanted to cut Philo down with a blade. But remembering that encrypted file, he clenched his jaw and dragged out a completely bewildered Lauri.
“Prepare a team. I’ll send you a location—bring back the person there.”
Lauri: “Y-Yes, my lord.”
He hesitated for a moment before tentatively guessing, “Is this person… Ji Laili?”
At that name, Garna’s face instantly darkened, exuding a terrifying aura.
Lauri immediately regretted mentioning it. The next second, he was yanked forward by his collar.
Garna grasped his shirt tightly, his voice dripping with menace. “Lauri, you better understand—he’s a Federation rat.”
“You know the price of betraying the Empire. If I find out you have any lingering ties with Ji Laili, don’t blame me for killing you.”
Cold sweat dripped down Lauri’s forehead. He dared not wipe it away. Forcing himself to remain calm, he opened his mouth and promised, “My lord, I wouldn’t dare.”
“I know what I must do.”
Garna studied him for a moment before releasing him and ordering coldly, “Get it done.”
As he spoke, his gaze swept across the room and landed on Eugene, who had been sneaking glances at him.
When their eyes met, Eugene immediately looked away, feigning innocence, as if nothing had happened.
Garna sneered inwardly.
Philo clearly didn’t care about this Alpha’s life.
In fact, it seemed like he was hoping Garna would deal with him.
The thought disgusted Garna. Forget it. He’d kill him in a few days.
—
Unaware that he had narrowly escaped death, Eugene was also pondering ways to kill Garna.
But the moment that thought formed, Shen Yu and Zhai Yifei simultaneously crushed it.
Shen Yu: “What, are you planning to frighten him to death by crawling at him with your twisted limbs?”
Zhai Yifei: “Regrettable. You’d probably die of carbon monoxide poisoning before you even got halfway.”
Eugene: … Would licking your boots kill you guys faster?
But after taking such a verbal beating, Eugene obediently quieted down, no longer daring to cause trouble for them.
Now that his identity was definitely exposed, anyone who had been in close contact with him was in danger.
To ease their situation, Ji Laili had deliberately staged his self-destruction, allowing Shen Yu to “take him down” in front of everyone. This would boost “Lance’s” status within the base.
As for Zhai Yifei, he just had to remain hidden.
This made it much harder for the three of them to find a chance to discuss their next steps.
“Has there been any word from Laili?”
Shen Yu hesitated slightly before replying, “Not yet.”
Zhai Yifei glanced at him.
Everyone knew about Shen Yu’s possessiveness toward Ji Laili.
But Zhai Yifei had also noticed something even Eugene hadn’t.
Beyond possessiveness, Shen Yu had a peculiar sense of protectiveness toward Ji Laili.
Ji Laili wasn’t an Omega, nor was he weak in the slightest, yet Shen Yu’s need to shield him was blatant.
It was as if a single storm, a sky-darkening cloud, could completely erase the sun from existence.
That day, when Ji Laili laid out his plan, Shen Yu had gone silent for a moment.
Zhai Yifei hesitated, debating whether to offer some words of comfort.
After all, this was… his future sister-in-law, right?
“You…”
“No news is the best news.”
Shen Yu knew what Zhai Yifei was about to say.
He thought that, perhaps in the past, he would have been anxious—unsettled whenever he couldn’t see Ji Laili, desperate to find him.
But at some point, that feeling stopped making him restless.
It wasn’t that his feelings had lessened—on the contrary, they had grown even stronger. He was certain that Laili would never lie to him.
More importantly…
Shen Yu’s gaze shifted slightly, his eyes turning cold. “The internal troubles have already been left to Laili.”
“As for the external threats—we’ll take care of them.”
Zhai Yifei smirked. “And your plan?”
Shen Yu replied, “Blow it up.”
Eugene’s eyes widened. “That’s even an option?!”
This idea had come to him during their last mission. Instead of wasting time searching for data, deleting files, or copying them, this was much faster and far more efficient.
His expression was calm, his presence sharp and unwavering—cold yet undeniably powerful.
“If it turns to ash, won’t that solve everything?”
