“She’s not here. What’s it to you?” Someone nearby looked at the person talking with disdain.
“What’s the point of you speaking up for her? She won’t treat you like she treats the village chief and the others.” After all, it was just dozens of watermelon seedlings. They were acting as if they owed her a great debt.
The person being scolded chuckled, “Whether it can be the same as the village chief’s family or not, at least Wang Jinhe gave us the opportunity to make money. You guys want to make money from her and still badmouth her. Aren’t you afraid you won’t be able to buy melon seedlings from her in the future?”
“In the future, you won’t get any good things from Wang Jinhe’s place.”
“Do you think we’re fools? We kept the seeds. We know how to grow watermelons, and we can grow as many as we want.” The woman spoke with a triumphant expression.
People around suddenly understood what they were plotting.
“Don’t regret it.”
“Do you think we’re like you? Foolish.” They kept their seeds and dared to say they would regret it.
Someone wanted to say more but was pulled away by others. “Wang Jinhe’s fruits are sold at such high prices for a reason. I heard that the fruits grown from her seeds can have various health benefits.”
“That’s right. Lin Shi got pregnant because she often ate vegetables grown from Wang Jinhe’s seeds. And look at those elderly people in their family—they seem to be getting younger. Those who have a good relationship with them and often get vegetables are also like that.”
“Listening to what you’re saying, it seems true. I’ve heard about it before, but I didn’t take it seriously. Now it seems to be the case.”
“Wang Jinhe’s seeds have effects as well. Haven’t you noticed? Those who follow Wang Jinhe’s family in planting vegetables and eat their own vegetables seem to be in better spirits and look a bit younger.”
“That’s right. If there weren’t any special effects, why would they charge such high prices?”
The person who claimed to have kept the seeds sneered, “You guys really know how to flatter Wang Jinhe. Healing the body? You’re just talking nonsense.”
She simply didn’t believe such a thing.
“Believe it or not, it’s up to you. Wait until this year when your melons come out, and you’ll see.”
“Let’s not waste time talking to her. We’ll go find the village chief and ask if we can buy more melon seedlings and vegetable seeds from Wang Jinhe’s family this year. We’ll plant some too.”
Those who sincerely thanked Wang Jinhe left together to find the village chief.
After learning about their purpose, Xie Kui said, “I don’t know if this can be done. I’ll go and ask Wang Jinhe.”
“When you ask Wang Jinhe, let her know that those who spoke ill of her in the village have kept seeds themselves, thinking of planting their own crops this year.”
Xie Kui had expected someone to do this, but he didn’t expect it to happen so soon.
“I’ll talk to Wang Jinhe about it.”
After sending them away, Xie Kui went to Wang Jinhe to discuss the matter.
“This year, you can give them an additional two hundred seedlings. As for vegetable seeds, they can come and buy them. If they’re willing to sell the vegetables to us later, we’re also willing to buy them.” Wang Jinhe considered and agreed.
In the second half of last year, she could feel that these people were sincerely apologizing to her and were making efforts to make amends. Since that was the case, she was willing to give them a chance to improve their lives.
“Thank you, Xiao He. Those people in the village, who spoke ill of you these days, even refused the fifty seedlings you offered earlier. They kept the seeds themselves, which emboldened them to speak ill of you so recklessly,” the village chief said, frustrated.
Wang Jinhe was taken aback. So, that was the case.
“I understand, Uncle. However, if they want to plant on their own, they’ll be in for a loss this year.” Wang Jinhe sneered. All her seeds were cultivated using the spiritual spring water, and they thought they could simply keep some seeds from the melons they planted themselves?
If it were true, her produce wouldn’t be so valuable.
Hearing this, Xie Kui nodded in understanding. “Okay, I’ll go back for now and inform the villagers about this good news.”
“Sure.”
Qiuyi stood behind Wang Jinhe, frowned, and said, “Miss, these people really don’t know how to be grateful.”
“It doesn’t matter. Just a few of them. I’m just waiting for them to suffer losses this year,” Wang Jinhe said, leaning on her chin, mocking.
Qiuyi nodded happily, “Exactly. Otherwise, they’ll think everyone owes them.”
“If I’m not angry, why should you be angry?” Wang Jinhe said with a smile.
“I’m just upset for Miss. Miss considered them, but they turned out to be such people,” Qiuyi said, getting angrier the more she thought about it.
“It won’t happen again.”
Xie Kui went back and told the other villagers about what Wang Jinhe had said. As for those who kept seeds for themselves, none of them were notified.
The people who had earned a lot of money by buying fifty melon seedlings last year were thrilled. At the same time, they used the money to buy vegetable seeds from Wang Jinhe.
After buying the seeds, everyone began planting vegetables. For a while, except for those few families, the entire village was harmonious and happy.
The families who had initially considered buying seeds from Wang Jinhe, thinking about the vegetables she grew, also became interested. Consequently, they came with money to purchase seeds.
“We won’t sell.”
Hearing the words of Wang Jinhe’s maidservant, those who came to buy seeds widened their eyes, staring angrily at them. “You sell to others, why won’t you sell to us?!”
“Because you insulted our Miss, you insulted our Miss and still want to buy seeds from us? Forget about it. Let me tell you, since you kept seeds for yourselves, go plant them on your own. No one cares about you,” Qiuyi said disdainfully, her face cold.
Several people looked embarrassed, not daring to meet the maidservant’s eyes. They never expected her to know.
These maidservants all knew what kind of mistress Wang Jinhe was…
“It’s all a misunderstanding. Who’s spreading rumors? They should be afraid of divine punishment.”
“Rest assured, even if there’s punishment, it will be for hypocrites like you who forget kindness. Since you haven’t been punished by the heavens, why would others be?” Qiuyi sneered and spoke.
This woman was good at pretending, but she genuinely believed that they knew nothing? Did she think she could say anything, and they would believe it?
“You… How dare a servant like you speak like this? Let Wang Jinhe come out!”
“Our Miss is busy and doesn’t have time to come out and deal with you,” Qiuyi said. Why would she let Wang Jinhe see the faces of these people?
“You…”
“Are you leaving or not? If you don’t, I’ll release the dogs, and our dogs bite to death. Do you want to try?” Qiuyi looked at the speaking woman disdainfully.
So what if she was a servant? She knew how to repay kindness, unlike these ungrateful people.
“Since you say you’ve kept your seeds, have the courage not to come to our Miss to buy seeds. Even if you come, we won’t sell,” Qiuyi added with pride.
(Qiuyi still uses miss to address Wang Jinhe probably because they were taken in by her when she was still single, while Su Yu’s servants addresses her as our lady or madam)
