Chapter 27: Get Out
“Mom, Dad, is this how you see me? Am I really that terrible?”
Wu Zhiqiu was both angry and amused, “Are you that terrible? Don’t you know what you’ve done? Tomorrow your disgraceful actions will spread throughout the entire neighborhood; the one who has always clung to her deceased husband’s sister’s money and house almost pushed her niece to the brink! What I said is definitely worth listening to; you should go listen to how people evaluate you tomorrow! Then come back and say that we are speaking harshly!”
The third son… he was finished, completely finished! His mother was right; what they said was likely worth listening to!
“Mom, what should I do?” The third son was truly anxious; he cared about his reputation. When he did this, he thought at most his parents would know, but he didn’t expect that neighbors would know everything.
“What you’ve done, do you still care what others say? What to do? Just listen and see how everyone praises you! Maybe we, as mothers, are saying you’re too extreme; what if others think you did the right thing?”
The third son… he wasn’t stupid; he couldn’t take this matter lightly.
“Mom, I’m embarrassed; doesn’t our whole family lose face because of this? Please help me think of a solution!” The third son saw his mother as his last straw.
“I didn’t teach you well, so you deserve to be criticized! I admit my mistake! Hurry up and pack your things, get out of this house! This house doesn’t allow someone as heartless as you to take a single step in!”
“Mom, are you really going to be this harsh?”
“You’re the one who’s harsh! I don’t even come close to being as ruthless as you!” Wu Zhiqiu sarcastically replied.
“I won’t go!” Where could he go? His pockets were emptier than his face.
“That’s not up to you!” Li Mancang said in a deep voice, turning directly back into the house!
“Dad, Mom, I was wrong! Give me another chance, please! I really messed up! I beg you!” The third son saw his parents were serious and suddenly knelt down in front of Wu Zhiqiu.
Li Fengchun trembled all over, pulling herself in to feel less noticeable.
When the eldest daughter came, she didn’t show up either, so their parents definitely noted that down!
Now she didn’t dare to speak up, fearing she would also be kicked out.
Wu Zhiqiu’s expression was cold, “What good is it for a murderer to admit his mistakes? People are already dead; that’s just crocodile tears! If you really know you were wrong, don’t just say it here to me and your dad! You’re old enough; we’ve fulfilled our duty as parents, so take care of your own future!”
The third son knelt on the ground, crying with snot and tears; he really knew he was wrong!
Li Mancang and Wu Zhiqiu went back to their room, neither of them could sleep, both worrying about how their child had ended up this way.
The eldest daughter was okay with outsiders, but when it came to her own matters, she became indecisive and timid, afraid of offending one while neglecting the other.
The eldest son was maximally selfish, treating the whole family like leeches, eager to get as far away as possible, but when it came to money, he was eager to draw out every last bit from them!
The youngest son was the most cunning, fearing he would suffer losses, worrying that everything at home would be taken by the eldest, desperately trying to pry things from their hands, wanting to suck them dry.
The youngest daughter wanted nothing more than to escape this family, wishing she could get into college immediately and distance herself from them!
Neither of them understood how their children had changed so drastically.
When they were younger, they were quite understanding. They knew how to care for their parents, bringing the younger ones back from school, gathering wild vegetables, collecting firewood, doing chores, cooking, and needing not worry their parents at all.
When did the children begin to change?
Wu Zhiqiu also recalled various events from her past, realizing the issues were not just about family property; the earlier children had indeed already changed.
She was just immersed in her own world, not realizing it and unwilling to acknowledge it!
Wu Zhiqiu, unable to make sense of it, decided not to think about it anymore. In this life, she didn’t want to be entangled with her children anymore.
Let them be who they want to be; she wouldn’t exhaust herself over it.
Whoever crossed her, she’d use her position to make them unhappy as well.
For the sake of her own well-being, she vowed never to compromise herself for others again!
Waking up at six o’clock, Wu Zhiqiu got out of bed, boiled the last six eggs in the house, and made some millet porridge. She ate a bowl for herself and left a bowl and an egg for Li Mancang.
She packed everything else to take with her and grabbed her toiletries before heading to the hospital.
The hospital was bustling with activity, but no matter how Fenglan spoke to her, she remained silent.
Wu Zhiqiu entered the ward, took out the millet porridge and eggs, and said, “Hurry and eat while it’s hot; it’ll get cold soon!”
Fenglan wiped her tears and took the lunch box.
Wu Zhiqiu felt annoyed; when problems can’t be solved, she just cried, her tears flowing freely.
Seeing her congested breast, she felt a bit blocked again!
“The child is gone; why are you crying!”
“Manman won’t pay attention to me!” Fenglan continued to cry.
“Where’s that strength of yours when you hit someone? Others get beaten, and you act like you’re the one who’s been wronged! Who are you crying for? Just because you shed a few tears, does that mean others have to forgive you? If your tears are that powerful, you should apply for a patent and use them as a weapon!”
Wu Zhiqiu scolded Fenglan fiercely.
Fenglan was stunned by the scolding, and she forgot to cry.
“If you don’t recognize your mistakes, then don’t come to the hospital; the child feels upset seeing you!” Wu Zhiqiu urged Fenglan to leave.
“Where would I go? Manman needs someone to take care of her; she can’t be without me!” Fenglan quickly said.
“Mom, you should go back; my grandma is here to take care of me!” Before Wu Zhiqiu could speak, Manman chimed in.
Fenglan was taken aback, “Manman, you don’t want your mother anymore?” Tears streamed down her face again.
Manman felt sad seeing her mother upset, but yesterday, her mother had hit her without reason, which hurt her even more.
“Mom, can you give me some space? You’ve been crying since last night, and I’m really tired; I can’t rest with you here, and you’re disturbing others too!” There was another middle-aged woman in the ward who was frowning and lying down, clearly having not rested well because of them.
Fenglan looked hurt; she didn’t mean to hit her child. After hitting her, she regretted it. Yesterday, when Manman went missing, she was almost scared to death!
Why couldn’t Manman understand her? After all, that was her uncle! If she had any grievances, couldn’t she just tell her uncle instead of making a fuss?
Wu Zhiqiu saw that Fenglan didn’t realize her mistakes and was making everyone unhappy, which was delaying the child’s recovery. She decided to send her home; she hadn’t rested well either, and she could return when the child’s emotions stabilized.
Reluctantly, Fenglan left.
Manman secretly breathed a sigh of relief, “Thank you, Grandma!”
“Rest well and don’t think too much!” Wu Zhiqiu peeled the egg for Manman, who took small sips of porridge.
The ward quieted down; the middle-aged woman in the adjacent bed also relaxed her frown. Last night, Fenglan had been crying all night, and she hadn’t said anything, which had kept her awake all night.
It was this old lady who was making a fuss; the child was fine, but the woman didn’t understand what Fenglan was crying about! It disturbed everyone’s sleep!
After breakfast, the doctor came for rounds. Manman still had a slight fever and felt weak, so she needed another injection.
The doctor advised Wu Zhiqiu to strengthen the child’s nutrition so she could recover quickly.
Wu Zhiqiu quickly agreed! At this time, there were rarely any chubby children; most were thin and frail! So, a skinny Manman looked quite normal.
