“What are you doing?”

“Help! Help!”

“Put down the stool!”

“Don’t run!”

In the parking lot, the nurse who had just been there screamed, doctors from other departments nearby saw the sudden situation and ran over, shouting to stop the man from taking any further action. Dong Guo’s father heard the shouts, he was dazed for a few seconds, he dropped the four-legged stool and ran away.

“Tang, Tang…” Lin Ye was so scared that the blood drained from her face, she was a little dazed, then she realized what was happening, she quickly turned her back, instinctively reaching out to lift Tang Feiwai’s clothes to check the injury on her back.

Tang Feiwai gently pushed Lin Ye’s hand away and turned around, she simply sat down on the ground. She looked up at the other party’s visible anxiety, her heart warmed slightly, she pretended to be relaxed and said, “No, I’m fine.” The man had hit her on the left shoulder, Tang Feiwai moved it, although it hurt, she was sure that she hadn’t injured any bones. She didn’t want the other party to feel guilty and concerned because she was injured, so she pursed her lips and said again, “Lin, Director Lin, if it had been another colleague, they would have rushed over to help; and vice versa, if another colleague had been in danger, I would have stepped forward to stop it immediately.”

Lin Ye understood what Tang Feiwai meant, her face was gloomy, she sighed, her voice was muffled, “Colleagues can also help check for injuries.”

“Oh.” Tang Feiwai no longer refused, she let her half-squat behind her and lift her clothes.

“Actually, my knee hurts more than my back, my back is really fine, don’t worry.” Her knee and hand were scraped.

Lin Ye gently examined her injuries, her warm fingertips occasionally touched her skin, Tang Feiwai couldn’t help but swallow, the next second the other party pressed slightly.

The closed soft tissue injury on her back was indeed not serious, but Lin Ye’s slightly furrowed brows couldn’t help but deepen, she said with concern, “We need to go to the treatment room to treat the scrapes on your knee and hand.”

“Okay.” Tang Feiwai felt the other party’s care, although the upturned corners of her lips were about to burst, she calmed down immediately when she thought about what might happen next, Lin Ye, and the hospital, might be endlessly harassed by Dong Guo’s family.

During this time, doctors from other departments also came to express their concern, and nurses from the same department helped call the police, after all, the man had run away, the police had to catch him.

Tang Feiwai stood up on her own and walked back with Lin Ye. They were both silent, they reached the elevator door, pressed the up button, Lin Ye suddenly said, “Thank you.”

“Huh?” Tang Feiwai turned her head to look at her, seeing that her face had slightly brightened, she blurted out, “Don’t say thank you, if you say thank you, I might be unhappy, I’m already in pain, and you’re making me unhappy.” Tang Feiwai finished speaking and then felt like she might have hit her head, what was she doing? This was! She quickly turned back, blushing and facing the wall to reflect on her actions.

Lin Ye heard this, she softly hummed, she didn’t say anything. They entered the elevator, it was quiet, you could hear a pin drop, Tang Feiwai bit her lip, she turned her back to Lin Ye, reached out and took her pulse.

107 beats per minute, it’s beating too fast, isn’t it?

Tang Feiwai didn’t know that Lin Ye, who was behind her, was also watching her actions, she finally relaxed her tightly furrowed brows and showed the faint smile she always had when dealing with patients.

Today, she found her cute for the second time…

The elevator door opened, the two of them were too immersed in their own worlds, they didn’t react, it was Gu Yan, who had been planning to go downstairs and was standing at the elevator entrance, who suddenly reminded them, “Director Lin, Doctor Tang, why are you back?” She saw the injury on Tang Feiwai’s knee at a glance, she asked in a flustered manner, “Doctor Tang, what happened to you?”

“Dong Guo’s father retaliated against Director Lin, and Doctor Tang acted bravely and got hurt.” Sun Qinhe, as the head nurse, was well-informed, she was also about to leave work, she stood on the right side of Gu Yan and asked Tang Feiwai, “Should we call a nurse to help with wound cleaning?”

Lin Ye said softly, “No need, I’ll do it.”

Sun Qinhe thought about it and agreed, she said a few more words of concern, the four of them exchanged positions, she pressed the down button, and the elevator door closed.

Tang Feiwai and Lin Ye walked side by side, they went around the triage desk of the department, and another 10 meters forward was the treatment room of the emergency department. Tang Feiwai went inside, she sat down on the stool specifically provided for patients in front of the treatment table, she knew all the procedures, without waiting for Lin Ye to speak, she consciously took out her phone, clicked on the app and made an appointment.

“You sit down for a while.” Lin Ye saw that Tang Feiwai had successfully made an appointment, she stared at the bleeding wound on her knee, the brows that had finally relaxed furrowed again. She quickly turned her back, she was silent for a few seconds before slowly saying, “I’ll be right back.”

Tang Feiwai looked at her back and obediently responded, “Okay.”

Lin Ye stepped out, she had to find the doctor on duty to give instructions, then take the slip to pay.

Tang Feiwai watched Lin Ye leave the treatment room, she hugged her phone and watched funny videos to distract herself, after all, the scrapes had already passed the numb stage, now she felt the pain, it made her gasp, let alone the fact that she would have to get stitches later.

It was almost 11 pm, there were fewer patients coming to the emergency room at night than during the day, so it only took 10 minutes for Lin Ye to pay and come back. She walked to the treatment table, reached out and opened the cabinet to take out hydrogen peroxide, cotton balls, gauze, and other wound cleaning supplies, and placed them on the table.

“It will hurt, I’ll try to be gentle.” Lin Ye pulled up a low stool and sat in front of her, she leaned forward slightly, looked at the wound on her knee, and said softly.

“Or, I’ll do it myself?”

Lin Ye’s right hand, which was holding the hemostatic forceps, paused, she didn’t look up, nor did she answer her.

Tang Feiwai was afraid that Lin Ye would misunderstand, she quickly explained, “No, I’m not trying to avoid troubling you, it’s just that I can control the force, so…”

“I understand.” Lin Ye lightly curled her lips, handed the hemostatic forceps to Tang Feiwai, then sat back a little, watching her clean the wound.

Time passed, Tang Feiwai winced in pain, but because she was afraid of worrying her, she held back her cries. Fortunately, a phone call suddenly came in, Lin Ye went out to answer the phone.

“Hello, yes. Yeah, we’re in the treatment room of the emergency department.” Lin Ye looked in and said, “The police are here, they’re coming to take our statements.”

Tang Feiwai couldn’t speak because of the pain, she nodded.

Three minutes later, two policemen knocked on the door and came in one after the other. The policeman in front was responsible for asking, “You’re the ones who called the police, right?”

The two of them said in unison, “Yes.”

“According to the phone number you provided, we contacted Cao Yangqiao, she is also willing to file a police report and get a medical examination, she’s on her way from home now.” The policeman introduced, “She’s our forensic doctor, she’ll help you get a medical examination.”

Tang Feiwai thanked them, “Thank you.”

The policeman motioned for Lin Ye to go out and talk to them, the two of them stood in the corridor outside, the policeman said, “We have other colleagues investigating the scene, and we have already obtained the weapon used to hurt you.”

Lin Ye nodded, she continued, “The assailant’s phone is off, the police are trying their best to track him down. His family is still dealing with the aftermath of their deceased relative, we will contact them later to find out what happened.” The policeman paused for two seconds, then continued, “From your perspective, tell us about the assailant’s motive.”

Lin Ye spoke slowly and calmly, the policeman took notes. Before she finished speaking, Cao Yangqiao arrived at the hospital, waiting for the police to question her and give her a medical examination. Later, through taking statements, Lin Ye learned that Cao Yangqiao and Dong Guo had known each other for four years and had been together for two years. Three months ago, Dong Guo introduced Cao Yangqiao to his family, but Dong Guo’s father didn’t agree, he obstructed them in every way, so Cao Yangqiao broke up with him.

It turned out that Dong Guo’s father was from a peasant background, he made a fortune in the coal mining business a few years ago, earning tens of millions, now he lived off rent, so he felt deep down that Dong Guo and Cao Yangqiao were not a good match.

The policeman complained, “Wasn’t he also from a peasant background? Why is he looking down on you for coming from the countryside? Besides, you’re a graduate student, you’re more educated than his son.”

“So I figured this out and decided to break up sooner rather than later to get out of it.” Cao Yangqiao recalled, “Dong Guo’s dad has a violent temper, he often beats and scolds Dong Guo’s mom and sister, but he’s sexist, he never lays a hand on Dong Guo.”

The policeman asked, “Didn’t his mother call the police?”

“Never, she’s probably used to it. But Dong Guo’s sister doesn’t tolerate her dad, she got a master’s degree in law. Dong Guo said that his sister will find a way to get his mom out of the fire pit.”

The policeman cursed Dong Guo’s father as a scum while taking notes, he said that this time they couldn’t tolerate it anymore, and he also told them not to settle it privately, he would have him detained for two days to teach him a lesson.

Cao Yangqiao agreed readily.

Over there, Tang Feiwai had finished her medical examination, she briefly made a statement, and then took the elevator downstairs with Lin Ye.

“Take my car, the motorcycle is at the hospital.” Lin Ye lowered her head, her tone returned to its usual calmness.

“I have to go home tonight, my dad’s birthday is tomorrow, we’re having a family dinner at noon.” Tang Feiwai was carrying the  that Lin Ye had bought, because of the other party’s concerned words, the corners of her lips were upturned, her eyes were like gems, sparkling.

“Then I’ll drive you home.”

“Okay.” Tang Feiwai felt like she was in another world, she slightly tilted her head, her peripheral vision caught a glimpse of Lin Ye lowering her head, her black hair covering most of her face, but it couldn’t hide the long-lost tenderness in her brows.
