Lin Qingxu hadn’t been standing there long when a sharp-eyed child noticed her.
“Sister Qingwan, your sister’s here?” a little boy asked, pulling on Lin Qingwan’s sleeve and whispering to her, taking advantage of her paused slingshot.
‘Lin Qingxu’ had asked Lin Qingwan to come home for dinner many times, and all the children in the village knew that ‘Lin Qingxu’ was considered a fool.
They used to secretly mock Lin Qingwan for having a foolish sister. However, Lin Qingwan put a stop to the teasing by beating up the kids who mocked her, to the point that their parents couldn’t recognize them. Since then, no one dared to publicly mock Lin Qingxu.
Now that Lin Qingxu had arrived, the children, who had been trained to be obedient, were too scared to even move.
Upon hearing this, Lin Qingwan was overjoyed. Her bright smile spread instantly as she turned to see Lin Qingxu. “Sister!” she shouted loudly.
After shouting, she shoved the slingshot in her hand into the boy’s arms next to her and jumped out of the field like an excited monkey.
Lin Qingxu watched as Lin Qingwan jumped up to her, happily grabbing one of her arms. With her dirty face, Lin Qingwan asked what their mother was cooking for lunch. Lin Qingxu couldn’t help but exclaim to herself once again, “Damn it!”
The future female lead was her own younger sister, and the future villain was the man she was about to marry.
Could she handle this setup?
“Sister, why aren’t you talking?” Lin Qingwan asked, noticing her sister’s distracted gaze. She waved her hand twice in front of Lin Qingxu’s eyes, her voice tense.
Lin Qingxu had only been clear-headed for two days, and Lin Qingwan didn’t want her to regress.
Lin Qingxu snapped out of her thoughts and chuckled. “Oh, it’s nothing. I was just thinking about something. Mom has already prepared lunch. Let’s go back quickly.”
Seeing that her sister was speaking smoothly and no longer appearing foolish, Lin Qingwan relaxed. She walked affectionately along the path, chatting about the interesting things that had happened in the morning.
Lin Qingxu listened and nodded, but her mind was frantically recalling the plot about Lin Qingwan in the novel.
<<The Legend of the Village Female Cultivator>> was written from the perspective of the female protagonist Lin Qingwan, starting from her tenth year in the Lingyun Sect of the Immortal Cultivation Sect.
Lin Qingwan, a pure grassroots heroine born in Lotus Village in the Human Realm, was known for her diligence and fortuitous opportunities in the path of cultivating immortality.
With both water and wood spiritual roots and excellent qualifications, combined with her hardworking and determined spirit, the female protagonist quickly surpassed her peers in the Lingyun Sect within ten years. She demonstrated her prowess in the cultivation test held once every thirty years.
Although small sects for cultivating immortals could produce talents, most were eventually overwhelmed by the power and longevity of the larger sects. To further her cultivation, Lin Qingwan’s master recommended her to the Xuanqian Sect, one of the three major sects for cultivating immortals.
As a renowned major sect in the cultivation world, Xuanqian Sect had countless disciples, many with superior qualifications. In the early stages, Lin Qingwan, having no power or influence, was often excluded.
Fortunately, the female protagonist has a determined personality and manages to established herself in the sect despite the challenges. During this period, she also has the opportunity to interact with the male protagonist, Chu Jue.
Lin Qingxu quickly recalled the twists and turns that the female protagonist experienced in the cultivation world, focusing on the narrative of the female protagonist’s family in the novel.
If the person who marries Su Yan in the novel was really the protagonist’s sister, “Lin Qingxu,” then there should be a description in the narrative about the protagonist’s family.
Unfortunately, the scumbag author has once again deprived the cannon fodder of any detailed backstory!
In the later stages of the novel, when the relationship between the male and female protagonists progresses, “Lin Qingwan” briefly mentions her family to the male protagonist. She reveals that she was from Lotus Village, where her father was a storyteller and her mother an embroiderer. Unfortunately, her father passed away early, leaving only her, her mother, and one sister at home.
Details about her sister’s name and age were left blank, and there’s no mention of whether her sister ever married a man named “Su Yan.”
The only overlap with the demon king Li Yuan’s story was that her sister also met a tragic end…
In the seventh year after joining the Lingyun Sect, Lin Qingwan returned to her village, only to find it in ruins. It was said that a few years earlier, the demon tribe had raided the human world, causing chaos that spread for dozens of miles around.
All her relatives and neighbors had perished in the catastrophe.
As Lin Qingxu thought of this, she couldn’t control the ferocious expression on her face, and her teeth were clenched tightly in anger.
“Sister? What’s wrong with you?” Lin Qingwan noticed that Lin Qingxu seemed distracted and stopped talking. When her sister didn’t snap out of it for a long time, she couldn’t help but nudge her elbow.
“Ah!” Lin Qingxu cried out in pain, suddenly jolted back to reality.
She quickly shook off Lin Qingwan’s small hands, rolled up her sleeve, and saw a large red mark, visibly swollen in the center. “Ah Wan, why did you pinch me so hard?” Lin Qingxu asked. Why did she pinched her so hard?
Lin Qingxu was baffled.
Lin Qingwan saw the injury and sheepishly stuck out her tongue, saying, “I thought you were possessed by an evil spirit! You didn’t respond even after I called you for a while.” Noticing Lin Qingxu’s irritated expression, she quickly chuckled and jumped a few steps ahead, saying, “Sister, let’s hurry up! I’m starving!”
Lin Qingxu gritted her teeth and decided to let go of her frustration with Lin Qingwan.
As soon as the two stepped through the courtyard door, Fang Xiu roared loudly.
“Lin A’wan, where have you been fooling around?” Fang Xiu’s voice rang out, teeth gritted in frustration.
Lin Qingxu chuckled to herself, recognizing the familiar tone of Fang Xiu’s irritation.
Although Lin Qingwan was mischievous, she was very afraid of Fang Xiu. Twisting her dusty dress, her plan to sneak into the house undetected fell through. She had no choice but to bury her head and walk obediently through the courtyard door.
The talkative red-haired rooster in the yard strutted over from the corner, seemingly mocking Lin Qingwan as it approached.
Fang Xiu was present, knowing that anyone who got too close would receive a harsh scolding, the rooster didn’t dare come forward, keeping a two-meter distance from the two girls. It scratched the ground here and there, intermittently clucking.
Lin Qingxu didn’t hesitate. She walked past Lin Qingwan, who had her head down in guilt and sat confidently at the dining table set in front of the room.
As she sat down, Lin Qingwan grudgingly sneaked a glance at her, silently accusing her of not helping. Lin Qingxu pretended not to notice and ignored her sister’s look.
Aside from being the future heroine, Lin Qingwan was just a jumpy, skinny little kid. Lin Qingxu had memories of living with her for nine years and felt both envious and a bit relieved that Lin Qingwan would ascend to the Immortal Realm in the future.
“Mother, I’m hungry,” Lin Qingwan pouted quietly, trying her best to keep her tone within Fang Xiu’s acceptable range.
“Hungry? You still know how to be hungry?” Fang Xiu snapped, taking the wooden chopsticks and sharply poking the porcelain bowl filled with rice, making a crisp “clang” sound. Lin Qingwan immediately lowered her head in submission.
Her expression of admitting her mistake was one hundred percent sincere.
Fang Xiu knew exactly what was going through Lin Qingwan’s mind, but considering her age, it wasn’t right to beat or scold her. Feeling annoyed, she finally waved her hand as she said. “Don’t stand there like a dog. Go back and change your clothes. Next time you come back like this, you won’t be able to go out for ten days!”
Lin Qingxu curled her lips as she watched Lin Qingwan quickly run back to her room after replying.
When Fang Xiu tapped the bowl again, Ling Qingxu’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly hid her smile and buried her head in her food, not wanting to invite any unnecessary trouble.
Lin Qingwan emerged from the house in less than two minutes, not only having changed into clean clothes but also having wiped her face. She now had dotted with crystal beads, looking innocent and lovely.
Lin Qingxu watched as she sat down and began eating hungrily, shoveling rice into her mouth like she hadn’t eaten in days. Sure enough, the next moment, Fang Xiu’s light cough broke the silence.
Upon hearing the sound, Lin Qingwan’s hand, which was about to fork a large portion of vegetables, trembled. She paused and slowed her actions, picking up a small piece of green vegetable and placing it in her rice bowl. She chewed slowly and swallowed, only then did Fang Xiu stop her light cough.
Lin Qingxu remained mostly silent. The original Lin Qingxu had been demented and slow-witted, so it was usually up to Lin Qingwan to keep the conversation going at the dinner table. Now, having been coldly reprimanded by Fang Xiu, Lin Qingwan hesitated for half a bowl of rice before giving in to her desire to speak.
“Mother, I heard from Black Bull that the Cui family, who moved to the village two days ago, has a girl of marriageable age who is particularly good-looking?” Lin Qingwan’s curiosity was piqued, and despite her young age, she had a strong gossip mentality. Since Fang Xiu had visited the Cui family two days ago, Lin Qingwan eagerly sought answers.
Lotus Village consists of only a few dozen families, and news travels fast in the countryside. Lin Qingxu, also eagerly awaited Fang Xiu’s reply, her curiosity piqued by the gossip.
Fang Xiu gave the two of them a disapproving look, but her eating didn’t stop. “With you two looking like this, of course, all the other girls seem good-looking.”
Lin Qingwan instantly jumped up and retorted, “No way ah! Sister is the best-looking person in the village, she’s not ugly!”
“Good looking? All ugly!” Fang Xiu retorted sharply, giving Lin Qingwan a sidelong glance. Lin Qingwan instantly fell silent. After a nervous giggle, she sat down quickly.
Fang Xiu’s authority was unrivaled!
Even by the end of their meal, Lin Qingwan couldn’t extract any information about the Cui family’s girl from Fang Xiu.
Frustrated like a little puffer fish, she helped Lin Qingxu finish cleaning up the dishes, then zipped off to her room, ready to turn her grief and anger into a nap.
By the time Lin Qingxu finished washing the dishes, Lin Qingwan had already fallen asleep like a little pig.
Lin Qingxu chuckled softly as she looked at her sister sprawled out, then gently covered her with the thin blanket that had fallen beside her. With an inner struggle, she walked out of the room.
Thinking about what she was about to do, Lin Qingxu’s heart couldn’t help but skip a beat.
