Chapter 82: Wedding
“Sister~” Shen Ping’s voice was soft and sweet, and she shyly looked up at the room. Finding that the door was already closed, and only the two of them were left, she breathed a sigh of relief. He Wanqing, sitting on the stool, listened to her coquettish voice, shuddered, and teased her, “Didn’t you just say you didn’t like him? How come you’re blushing like a monkey’s butt when you’re with him and want to talk to him?” Seeing the teasing in her eyes, Shen Ping stomped her feet, walked over to her in two steps, sat down beside her, and asked in a low voice, “Sister, what do you think of Su Zhiqing?” By the end, her voice was as low as a bee buzzing.
If He Wanqing hadn’t been staring at her, she probably wouldn’t have heard her question. “I don’t know, after all, he just arrived. But I can ask your brother-in-law. They’re from the same place, so they must know more than we do.” She didn’t dare to tell the truth, so she could only beat around the bush. But she did plan to ask him about it when no one was around tonight. If Su Benjun was a good person and his family was fine, then she could let them talk.
Looking at Shen Ping, who was blushing and looking down, she reached out and pulled her to sit down. Actually, they were the same age, but she was born in May, while Shen Ping was born in December, so she was always told that she was seventeen years old. “Sister, will this trouble brother-in-law?” Shen Ping suddenly looked up at her, her eyes filled with hope.
Seeing this, she understood. This girl must have fallen for Su Benjun, otherwise she wouldn’t be so conflicted and crying her eyes out because of what her aunt said. “No, it’s just a word. But let’s get something straight. If he doesn’t like you, you can’t hang your heart on him. Don’t be like those others, using those low-class tactics to force him to marry you.
” Thinking about those things, she frowned. Although she knew Shen Ping wasn’t like that, she still had to tell her. “Sister, you can rest assured about that. If there’s a result, it’ll be good. If there’s not, I’m not desperate for him.” She had been taught by her grandmother since she was a child not to be short-sighted and fixate on one man.
“That’s good. Okay, sit down and eat.” She patted the seat next to her, asking her to sit down. “Okay.” She smiled, stepped onto the stool, sat down, and picked up her chopsticks to eat. While they were eating, the feast outside began. As they drank the wine poured by the groom and ate the dishes, the captain raised his finger to He Dabumu, who was drinking with him. He Dabumu smiled and nodded, “Don’t say that. It’s all because of the situation. Our family originally wanted to keep our niece for another two years, but the reality doesn’t allow it.
We have no choice.” He smiled helplessly, and the captain kicked him under the table, “You’re a rascal.” If anyone knew the truth of the matter, it was him. Seeing his cousin’s shameless behavior, he couldn’t bear to look, so he turned to drink with the people next to him. After three rounds of drinking, at everyone’s request, He Wanqing was brought out of the room by Gu Cheng’an. Looking at the handsome man and beautiful woman standing together, He Dabumu’s family burst into laughter. Every corner of their mouths was turned up, and if their ears weren’t in the way, their mouths would have stretched to their ears. “Alright, everyone be quiet.
Today is the big day for my granddaughter He Wanqing and Jiang Cheng. Because my son-in-law’s family is too far away, it’s not convenient for them to come, so we’re keeping things simple. The two of you will toast everyone, and the wedding feast will be over.”
He Grandpa blushed with happiness, finished speaking, and took a cup of wine from He Jialin for the two of them. “Look carefully, it’s all white wine, not plain water!” As if he knew someone would say something, He Grandpa spoke first. “We know, hurry up. We still have to eat.” The old man, who was staring intently at the food on the table, urged them as soon as He Grandpa finished speaking. And when the child at the same table was about to pick up some food, he knocked down his raised hand with his chopsticks to prevent him from picking it up, afraid that the meat in the bowl would be gone. “Wanqing, your Grandpa Liu is in a hurry. Why don’t you take Jiang Cheng and toast everyone?” He glared at the old man, then turned to his granddaughter with a kind smile.
“Okay.” She took a cup of wine and stepped forward, pulling Gu Cheng’an along. “Grandpas, Grandmas, Uncles, Aunts, and everyone, eat well and drink well. We’ll toast you all.” After speaking, she raised her head and drank the wine in the cup. After finishing, she turned the cup over to show everyone. After two cups, they were allowed to return to their room. Sitting on the kang, watching Gu Cheng’an take away the empty bowls and chopsticks, and thinking about Shen Ping’s thoughts, she was about to ask him when she was interrupted by the sound of firecrackers outside.
“Sister, why are there firecrackers again?” Shen Ping was also curious. “I don’t know. Why don’t you go and have a look?” She looked out the window and pouted. “No, I promised to stay with you, how can I leave you alone?” She shook her head in refusal. “Then~” Before she could finish, He Dong, her nephew at the front door, shouted happily, “The firecrackers for the sedan chair are going off, Big Aunt is going to be taken away by Big Uncle!” His childish voice made them both understand what the firecrackers were for. Thinking about Gu Cheng’an’s actions, which would make He Cao and the Xu family so angry, she laughed happily. As the first round of firecrackers went off, more followed.
Until the feast ended, everyone left, and the firecrackers had just reached sixteen strings. Two more strings would be the time her second aunt had mentioned for them to leave. Just as she finished thinking about the seventeenth string, and then the eighteenth string, the sound of moving dowry outside also came. “Wanqing, don’t forget to open this box tonight. It contains your dowry money and the money from your uncle and your father-in-law.”
“I know, Mom, give it to Xiaoping!” “Of course I know who to give it to. I just want you to remember to open it tonight.” She said, placing the half-sized rosewood box in Shen Ping’s hands. Before she could finish her instructions, Shen Ping, who already knew what to do, quickly assured her, “Big Aunt, don’t worry, even if I’m gone, the box will still be here.” “What are you talking about? It’s okay if the box is gone, as long as you’re alright. Okay, everything’s ready outside, you two should get ready to go out!” He Grandma, who wanted to say a few more words, smiled and nodded as she saw her son-in-law enter the room. “Go, go, I’ve said everything I need to say.
Just live a good life from now on.” “I know, Grandma.” She got up and nodded to her grandmother, then nodded to Shen Grandma and the others before leaning on He Jiadong’s back and leaving the room to go outside. Seeing this, Gu Cheng’an, who was standing at the door to greet them, raised his stiff smile again and looked at He Mother and the others with a smile. When they reached the outer room, Gu Cheng’an spoke, pulling He Wanqing to kowtow to He Mother and the others before being carried away by someone else.
