Chapter 34: Brother-in-law
Zhao Xiaoning felt invincible because she believed she was reborn.
She never considered Song Shengsheng as a rival, but it was truly worrying that Song Shengsheng hadn’t divorced Fu Cheng yet.
Zhao Xiaoning adjusted her mood and walked to the pastry counter. She put on an impeccable smile. “Cousin, I know it’s your first day at work, so I specially took a day off to see you.”
She asked cautiously and with concern, “Cousin, are you getting used to it?”
Song Shengsheng had long seen through Zhao Xiaoning. She never visited without a purpose, and every time she came to see her, it was to scheme against her.
Trying to trick her into doing something bad!
She thought Song Shengsheng couldn’t see through her.
Actually, Song Shengsheng thought Zhao Xiaoning didn’t need to do this, because she wasn’t a good person anyway.
Song Shengsheng smiled. “It’s okay, this work isn’t tiring at all, and it helps pass the time.” She pretended to sigh. “This is much better than staying at home and being a lonely wife, it’s not boring, at least I have something to do to pass the time.”
Zhao Xiaoning, whose hands were sore from working in the textile factory, felt even more resentful when she heard this. She forced a smile. “Cousin, is anyone making things difficult for you? If they are, you have to tell me, our family can’t be bullied for no reason.”
Song Shengsheng blinked. “No, I brought them all some brittle candy I made this morning, and they’re all praising me! Our relationship got a lot better right away.”
Then, Song Shengsheng deliberately asked, “Xiaoning, how are you doing at the factory?”
Zhao Xiaoning forced a smile. “The factory’s treatment is good, and the work isn’t tiring.”
Song Shengsheng nodded and then gestured to her at the counter. “See if there’s anything you want to eat, these are all the master’s specialty pastries, if you like them, buy some to take home.”
Zhao Xiaoning thought she was going to give her some!
It turned out she had to pay for it herself. For the sake of her foolish cousin’s unwavering trust, she had to pretend to choose.
Zhao Xiaoning’s current salary was not enough to cover her expenses.
She had to rent a house, pay for food, and what was worse, she had to send money home.
She had been living a tight budget these days.
Zhao Xiaoning picked two pieces, and Song Shengsheng exclaimed, “Two pieces won’t be enough.”
Then, she kindly added five or six more pastries for her.
She weighed them on the scale.
“Five yuan and eighty six.”
Zhao Xiaoning couldn’t believe that such a small amount of pastries cost over five yuan!! It was enough for her food for several days!
She felt a pang of pain in her heart, but she had to put on a brave face in front of Song Shengsheng. She gritted her teeth and paid.
Song Shengsheng couldn’t help but feel smug after doing something bad. Seeing Zhao Xiaoning’s pained expression as she paid, the corners of her lips slowly curled up, and she felt very comfortable inside.
Song Shengsheng pursed her lips and smiled, adding fuel to the fire. “Xiaoning, you don’t have a sugar ration, do you? I have some here, I’ll lend them to you. You can return them to me next month.”
Zhao Xiaoning: “…”
Lend? She actually said that.
How could Song Shengsheng be so stingy? She didn’t know how to be a person at all, she was truly brainless.
Otherwise, Zhao Xiaoning couldn’t understand how someone could be so annoying.
Zhao Xiaoning felt heartbroken for the money and tickets she had painstakingly saved. She had to swallow her teeth, she said, “Cousin, you’re so kind to me.”
“What are you being polite to me for? Our relationship is better than mine with my younger sister. You’re the sister I care about the most.”
Zhao Xiaoning’s painful heart gradually eased, and she felt satisfied when she heard these words.
Song Shengsheng’s way of speaking hadn’t changed at all.
She was still the same fool as before.
This made Zhao Xiaoning feel that she could easily manipulate her, whatever she asked her to do, she would foolishly do it.
Zhao Xiaoning glanced at the clock on the wall. “Cousin, you’re about to get off work, I’ll wait for you to get off work and go home with you.”
The corners of Song Shengsheng’s lips curled slightly, she had a plan.
Zhao Xiaoning was already starting to flirt with Fu Cheng? She was really impatient.
Unfortunately.
Fu Cheng, this stubborn stone, only he knew what it was like to hold him.
He was heavy, cold, and hard.
Zhao Xiaoning thought she would readily agree.
Who knew that Song Shengsheng just lowered her head shyly in front of her and said, “Your brother-in-law is worried, it’s my first day at work, he said he would come to pick me up.”
“I won’t waste your time.”
“Xiaoning, you should go back early too, you have to go to the factory to work tomorrow.”
Zhao Xiaoning’s smile froze, her chest felt stuffy, she said, “Sister, is there something you want to say? We’re sisters, there’s no need to hide anything.”
Zhao Xiaoning suddenly got excited, thinking she had some embarrassing secret.
Song Shengsheng stammered, and under her urging, she sighed. “You should go back.”
She said, “Your brother-in-law doesn’t like you very much. He might be unhappy if he sees you.”
When Song Shengsheng said this, her eyes were as innocent as they could be, and her innocence was beyond reproach.
She didn’t care anymore whether Zhao Xiaoning and Fu Cheng were destined to be together, or whether they would be the loving male and female leads in the future.
She wouldn’t let them have it easy.
Zhao Xiaoning’s face turned an ugly shade of red and white when she heard this. “Sister, could there be some misunderstanding? I’ll talk to brother-in-law myself.”
Song Shengsheng blinked, not hesitating to pour dirty water on Fu Cheng, her expression unchanged as she spread rumors. “He said you’re not up to any good, you’re trying to make me not live a good life with him, and he wants me to stay away from you.”
Zhao Xiaoning’s face turned red and white, a colorful display of emotions.
Zhao Xiaoning couldn’t help but think back to her previous life, it really wasn’t easy for her to get close to Fu Cheng. At that time, Fu Cheng had already returned to the capital and held a high position. Their social classes were like a chasm.
She was only able to get close to her former brother-in-law because of her relationship as Song Shengsheng’s cousin.
At that time, Zhao Xiaoning heard that Song Shengsheng had already gone to Hong Kong with Shen Zhishu. Shen Zhishu was a genius in scientific research and technology, and he was treated very well in Hong Kong.
Every time Zhao Xiaoning saw Fu Cheng, she could only start the conversation by talking about Song Shengsheng’s childhood.
Fu Cheng seemed to only want to hear her talk about that.
He would faintly smile when she mentioned how Song Shengsheng, as a child, had hidden the meat that her neighbors had given her in the chimney to get back at her parents for favoring her younger siblings.
She took the opportunity to talk about all the bad things Song Shengsheng had done as a child.
She also said that Song Shengsheng had secretly given her younger brother a cold bath behind her parents’ backs, which caused him to catch a cold and have a fever in the middle of the night.
Every time Fu Cheng heard this, he didn’t seem to think Song Shengsheng was bad at all, and he seemed to think she was right. He would say softly, “How pitiful, how stupid.”
