Chapter 7

The next morning, Yu Sheng and Yu Wei set out together.

The driver, a full-time chauffeur from their family, was a young and good-looking man. Though he was just a driver, Yu Sheng took a moment to observe him and found him to be quite a handsome young man. He was respectful towards both of them and wore a warm, sunny smile that made people feel at ease.

Once in the car, Yu Sheng and Yu Wei sat in the back seats, but neither spoke a word.

The driver focused on driving, his eyes straight ahead, and the entire car was filled with a quiet, peaceful atmosphere.

Although they were technically sisters, their relationship was not as close as that of cousins in other families. After all, relationships like these are built over years of companionship. Yu Sheng and Yu Wei, despite being related by blood, were not much closer than strangers.

When Yu Wei wasn’t pretending to be well-behaved in front of their mother, she was unusually cold towards Yu Sheng. Given how well Yu Sheng understood Yu Wei’s character, she naturally wouldn’t try to start a conversation with her.

So, in this silent and somewhat oppressive atmosphere, after half an hour of driving, they arrived at the largest shopping mall in China.

The driver went to park the car. After getting out, Yu Wei walked ahead, leaving Yu Sheng to leisurely follow behind her.

As they entered the mall, the cool air conditioning hit them immediately, bringing relief from the sweltering heat outside.

It was the peak of summer, and the temperature had soared to a scorching forty degrees. The ground outside was likely hot enough to fry an egg. If it hadn’t been for their mother insisting that Yu Sheng go out to buy clothes, she would have preferred staying in her room until sunset before stepping outside.

Not long after entering the mall, Yu Sheng suddenly felt the urge to use the restroom. The breakfast at the Yu family that morning had been light, possibly because last night’s supper had been too rich to digest, so today’s breakfast was especially mild.

The table was filled with different types of porridge. Even the simplest porridge had been made with a variety of flavors, such as shrimp porridge, lobster porridge, abalone porridge, pigeon porridge, and eel porridge, among others. Whether from the sky or the sea, there was something for everyone.

Yu Sheng had indulged in all the varieties of porridge. She couldn’t deny that each one was delicious, with its own unique flavor. But her favorite was the seafood porridge.

The seafood porridge contained squid, pork, large shrimp, clams, bamboo shoots, and cabbage. Just looking at it made her mouth water, and the aroma was so appetizing that it made her salivate.

The porridge was packed with ingredients, and it was so tasty that she ended up drinking three large bowls in one sitting.

At the time, Yu Sheng thought porridge was easy to digest and low in calories, so she didn’t mind having a little more. She figured she could simply eat less at lunch and dinner. But now, after drinking so much porridge, the urge to use the restroom was particularly strong.

Fortunately, in such a large shopping mall, there were restrooms everywhere. She told Yu Wei she was going to the restroom and went on her way.

As expected from the largest shopping mall in China, even the restrooms were luxuriously decorated.

The sinks inside were sparkling, and after Yu Sheng took a closer look, she couldn’t help but be amazed— the sinks were made of solid gold. After a quick glance, she didn’t linger and walked inside, only to find the restroom incredibly clean, with the floor spotless. It was clear the cleaning staff was doing their job well.

Yu Sheng spent only about five minutes in the restroom, and when she washed her hands and came out, Yu Wei was nowhere to be seen.

Yu Sheng didn’t consider the possibility that Yu Wei was in danger. The only explanation that came to her mind was that Yu Wei had intentionally left without waiting for her.

Yu Wei’s departure, on the other hand, made Yu Sheng feel more at ease.

Anyway, the card that her mother gave her was in her hands. Even if Yu Wei wasn’t around, it wouldn’t affect her shopping in the slightest.

No matter the era, shopping has always been a woman’s favorite pastime. Once she was in the mall, Yu Sheng could happily browse around all day on her own.
