Gu Xiruo looked at Gu Yanqi with a face full of grievances and disappointment. “Brother, don’t you trust me?”
“It’s not that. It’s just that I heard the person you found, who is now a county princess and even an imperial princess because she was already Su Yu’s wife when you sought her out. Su Yu is not short of money, so why would he agree to use her blood to save you?” Gu Yanqi looked at Gu Xiruo, waiting to see how she would respond.
Gu Xiruo’s expression turned somewhat unpleasant. Was her brother here today to pick a fight with her?
“What do you mean by that?” Gu Xiruo’s voice turned colder, and her eyes lost their previous look.
Gu Yanqi looked at Gu Xiruo, feeling disappointed with her attitude. “What? Now you’re not even willing to put on a show?”
“Since you’ve already decided that I’m the one behind all this, what else is there for me to say?” Gu Xiruo lowered her eyes, choosing to retreat.
Inwardly, she kept wondering how Gu Yanqi had found out about this. Did he know something? If he didn’t know anything, why would he come back and cause trouble for her?
The old Gu Yanqi, although not particularly fond of her, wouldn’t have acted like this.
Gu Yanqi observed Gu Xiruo, realizing that his once carefree sister had become such a heavy-hearted person.
“Why did you target Wang Jinhe?” Gu Yanqi asked directly, without beating around the bush.
Would Gu Xiruo admit to targeting Wang Jinhe? Of course not. She looked at Gu Yanqi with disappointment and said, “So this is how you see me, Brother.”
“Gu Xiruo, you don’t need to tell me anything else. Just answer my question,” Gu Yanqi refused to be swayed.
“What are you doing, Gu Yanqi? You come back and immediately start bullying your sister?” Gu Sheng, upon hearing that his son had come back and sought out his daughter, was worried that the siblings might get into a dispute, so he came to check on them.
To his surprise, he found Gu Yanqi confronting Gu Xiruo in an aggressive manner.
Seeing Gu Sheng’s arrival, Gu Yanqi was not surprised at all. In fact, he had something to ask Gu Sheng.
“Father, your timing is perfect. I have something to ask you,” Gu Yanqi said directly.
Gu Xiruo’s eyes flickered slightly. She had a feeling that Gu Yanqi’s return this time would bring her more trouble.
“Brother, what do you want to ask Father? Can I listen?” Gu Xiruo asked curiously.
She needed to quickly figure out the purpose of Gu Yanqi’s return.
“Of course, after all, this matter concerns you too,” Gu Yanqi said indifferently.
This statement made Gu Xiruo’s heart skip a beat. Frowning, she said, “Brother, I’m your sister. Why are you helping Wang Jinhe?”
Upon hearing that the dispute between the siblings was related to Wang Jinhe, Gu Sheng frowned. “What’s going on, Yanqi? Why are you questioning your sister for the sake of an outsider?”
Seeing Gu Sheng’s disapproving expression, Gu Yanqi seemed to understand why Wang Jinhe was reluctant to associate with him.
“Dad, I want to know why you needed Wang Jinhe’s heart blood,” Gu Yanqi asked Gu Sheng coldly.
Gu Sheng frowned. How did he know about this? But he didn’t think he had done anything wrong.
“Your sister was seriously ill and needed her heart blood to save her life. Is there anything wrong with what I did?” Was there anything wrong with saving his own daughter?
Gu Yanqi couldn’t help but laugh at Gu Sheng’s nonchalant attitude.
“Someday you will regret this,” Gu Yanqi said, disappointed as he looked at Gu Sheng. Suddenly, he didn’t want to know who Wang Jinhe was anymore. If Wang Jinhe was really as he had thought, her return might not be a good thing.
“What are you talking about, Yanqi? Your sister was seriously ill, and you’re worried about someone unrelated? Besides, in the end, we didn’t succeed, so what’s the point of being so cryptic?” Gu Sheng said, looking displeased.
Gu Yanqi laughed. “It seems that you didn’t do anything, or is it because of Wang Jinhe’s status that you didn’t dare to do anything?”
“You can’t afford the charge of murdering a royal relative,” Gu Yanqi said, looking at Gu Sheng and his daughter with a grim expression.
Hit where it hurt, Gu Sheng became somewhat angry and embarrassed. “Yanqi, shut up. Instead of worrying about other people’s affairs, you should think about how to bring glory to the Gu family, rather than thinking about these things.”
Gu Yanqi was the heir of the Gu family and a capable person. The family recognized him as the future head of the Gu family. However, hearing Gu Yanqi’s words made Gu Sheng somewhat dissatisfied.
Gu Yanqi looked deeply at Gu Sheng and suddenly laughed.
“This kind of family indeed doesn’t deserve it,” he said, then glanced at Gu Xiruo with a very indifferent look, devoid of any warmth, as if Gu Xiruo was a stranger to him.
Gu Xiruo’s expression turned sour after hearing Gu Sheng’s words. What about being his most beloved daughter? What did she mean compared to his son? Everything in the family was still going to be inherited by him. She, the favored daughter, couldn’t get anything.
“Why are you looking at me like that? And what makes you say that the Gu family doesn’t deserve it when the Gu family is so good?” Gu Xiruo’s face turned red with anger, seemingly very displeased with Gu Yanqi’s words.
Gu Sheng frowned, also becoming somewhat displeased with Gu Yanqi’s attitude.
Seeing Gu Sheng’s displeased expression, Gu Yanqi laughed, his eyes filled with sarcasm.
“Father, you’ve spent your whole life building a good reputation, only to be played by a little girl in the end,” Gu Yanqi said, shaking his head in disappointment.
“Enough, she’s your sister. Don’t come back and treat your sister like this,” Gu Sheng said impatiently, frowning.
But Gu Yanqi just laughed. “I can’t afford such a treacherous sister. And let me remind you, don’t let your own beloved daughter turn against you one day. That would be truly embarrassing.”
Gu Xiruo was present when Gu Yanqi said this, and she felt a sense of guilt and unease. It seemed that everything she had done was laid bare in front of Gu Yanqi.
“What are you talking about, Gu Yanqi? She’s your sister. Why are you being so cryptic since you came back?” Gu Sheng asked, frowning unhappily.
What had this child picked up while he was away?
