Helplessly, Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe and pinched her hand.
“Why are you finding problem me, little troublemaker?”
“You’re the one who wanted to argue with me,” she retorted. He knew perfectly well how much yield her rice plants would produce, so why ask such a question?
“I really hope to see the results of this year’s autumn harvest soon,” Su Yu couldn’t help but say.
“I wonder how the rice in the capital is doing. Is it as good as the rice you’ve planted here?” Su Yu couldn’t help but ask.
Wang Jinhe patted Su Yu’s shoulder and muttered, “You have to trust the agricultural experts. With them around, everything will be fine.”
“That’s true.”
Just as Su Yu was about to say something else, they heard the cry of a hawk.
Watching the hawk swoop down from the sky, Su Yu raised his arm to let the messenger hawk land on it.
Wang Jinhe stood beside Su Yu, looking at her curiously. “Is it a message from Wan Feng?”
As Su Yu nodded and opened Wan Feng’s letter, he couldn’t help but smile after reading it. “Jinhe, take a look at this.”
Hearing Su Yu’s words, Wang Jinhe became even more curious and leaned over to read the contents of the letter. After finishing, her expression became quite strange.
“Wan Feng played this move beautifully,” Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but marvel. “This way, Gu Xiruo has thoroughly provoked Qing Yukong. Now, she will have to marry, whether she wants to or not. And Lu Lingfeng definitely won’t accept seeing Gu Xiruo marry Qing Yukong. Moreover, Qing Yukong must have some reservations now. Even if Gu Xiruo marries him, it’s unknown how he will treat her in the future.”
“Su Yu, what do you think will happen to Gu Xiruo after she marries into the Qing family?” Wang Jinhe asked with great interest.
“Qing Yukong still has feelings for Gu Xiruo. No matter how angry he is, he won’t actually do anything after she marries him. Of course, this also depends on Gu Xiruo maintaining a certain relationship with Lu Lingfeng,” Su Yu replied. However, given Gu Xiruo’s current attitude, keeping her distance from Lu Lingfeng might not be feasible.
The Lu family had been waiting for Lu Lingfeng to return. As long as he apologized to the family, he would still be the esteemed young master of the Lu family, with a status and position not much lower than Qing Yukong’s. However, Lu Lingfeng was already dissatisfied with his status. Once he figured things out and returned to the Lu family, it was still uncertain who Gu Xiruo would ultimately marry.
“If Gu Xiruo were willing to distance herself from Lu Lingfeng, she wouldn’t have waited until now. It seems there will be a show to watch after she marries,” Wang Jinhe said with great interest.
Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe helplessly. “Qing Yukong may not necessarily be able to marry Gu Xiruo smoothly.”
“Why not? Isn’t he Gu Xiruo’s fiancé? Their marriage is the proper course of action,” Wang Jinhe replied. In this era, parental orders and matchmakers’ arrangements were paramount. If Gu Xiruo were to leave with Lu Lingfeng without canceling the engagement, it would be a disgrace, and Qing Yukong would have the right to bring them back.
“If Lu Lingfeng’s status is the same as Qing Yukong’s, and if he can bring enough benefits to both the Qing and Gu families, then the outcome of this marriage is still uncertain,” Su Yu said, shaking his head.
“But as you said, they are similar, and although Lu Lingfeng is slightly inferior to Qing Yukong, the outcome is already quite clear,” Wang Jinhe said thoughtfully.
“Most importantly, neither Qing Yukong nor Lu Lingfeng will marry her,” Gu Xiruo saw these two individuals as nothing more than pawns in her eyes. What she wanted was to be a person of high status, not just a lady of a prominent family. If the emperor were still willing to select a consort, Gu Xiruo might even have a chance to enter the palace.
“It all depends on the abilities of Lu Lingfeng and Qing Yukong,” Wang Jinhe said. Gu Xiruo wouldn’t marry either of them, but that didn’t stop her from having a clandestine relationship with both of them, just like the one she had hidden with Lu Lingfeng for so many years.
“Lu Lingfeng is unwilling to stay in the shadows and wants a place by Gu Xiruo’s side, but she sees him as nothing more than a pawn,” Wang Jinhe had a very unethical idea. It would be best to sow discord between Lu Lingfeng and Gu Xiruo.
“Do you know the type of man who holds a very high status, is good-looking, but is also very fickle?” Wang Jinhe asked Su Yu, her excitement already evident.
Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe in surprise, instantly understanding her thoughts.
“Do you think Gu Xiruo will fall for it?” Su Yu raised an eyebrow and asked Wang Jinhe.
“Don’t underestimate Gu Xiruo’s determination for power. She has the ability to play both sides,” Wang Jinhe said with narrowed eyes.
Once a person with a higher status could help Gu Xiruo get started, her attitude towards Qing Yukong or Lu Lingfeng would undergo a significant change.
Qing Yukong’s potential choices were unknown to Wang Jinhe, but given Lu Lingfeng’s character, once he saw Gu Xiruo’s true nature, his current infatuation would turn into ruthlessness.
“Do you know someone like that? If you do and he’s willing to listen to you, then let him play with Gu Xiruo. One is a philanderer who loves beautiful women, and the other wants to climb the ladder of power. Such a combination would be very interesting,” Wang Jinhe said with a smile in her eyes.
Su Yu, amused by her understanding, replied, “I do know someone like that, and I will have him do what you want. I will make sure you are satisfied, so you can rest assured.”
It was rare to see Wang Jinhe so eager to scheme against someone, so Su Yu naturally wanted to help.
“Let’s give him some fruits and vegetables then.” Wang Jinhe thought about it and said.
“Once our rice fish is ready, we can send him a few as a reward,” Su Yu suggested.
Since they were asking for someone’s help, they naturally had to make the benefits clear.
Su Yu couldn’t help but smile at Wang Jinhe’s enthusiasm. “Actually, it’s not necessary. After all, that guy still owes me a favor, so it’s okay if we don’t give him anything.”
Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu and said, “Regardless of your relationship with him, we can’t let him do things for us for nothing, can we?”
This exchange highlighted the importance of reciprocation in their dealings.
Their relationship was one thing, but when seeking someone’s help, it was important to provide appropriate compensation. Su Yu chuckled and shook his head. “That guy is getting off easy.”
Wang Jinhe tilted her head and looked at Su Yu, her eyes full of curiosity. “Do you have a good relationship with him?”
“It’s quite good. He still owes me a lot of favors, and I’m waiting for the right moment to ask him for help,” Su Yu replied. If it weren’t for the fact that he had asked the guy not to come over, he would have already sought him out.
Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu for a while before asking, “Who is this person you’ve found?”
