Chapter 28: Boyfriend and Girlfriend, Discussing Matters Together
Lin Qingyou looked speechlessly at her little aunt, who was grinning mischievously and had completely forgotten to open the door for Yin Hanyu.
Lin Qingyou sighed, then went to open the door herself.
As soon as Yin Hanyu stepped inside, she saw her little aunt’s grin grow even more suggestive.
“……” Yin Hanyu was a little confused and looked at Lin Qingyou.
What was going on?
Lin Qingyou shrugged, indicating that she didn’t understand either.
“Little Aunt…” Yin Hanyu greeted first.
Xiao Xue nodded but quickly resumed her teasing expression.
The next second, she chuckled slyly and said, “Brat, what are you doing here in the middle of the night to see my precious girl?”
Yin Hanyu glanced at Lin Qingyou, then at Xiao Xue. He opened his mouth to speak but then hesitated and stayed silent.
Seeing Yin Hanyu’s serious yet hesitant expression, Xiao Xue realized it must be something important. She said, “Since you two have something serious to discuss, I’ll step out for a bit.”
“Little Aunt, there’s no need…” Yin Hanyu stopped Xiao Xue. She was Lin Qingyou’s most trusted elder—almost like a mother to her.
So, there was no need for her to leave.
However, he worried that once she heard the truth, she might get so angry that she’d storm off to the Jiang family with a knife.
Even more than that, he feared she would be devastated…
“Qingyou, I want to talk to you about Jiang Zhuocheng.”
“Jiang Zhuocheng? What trouble has he caused now?”
Lin Qingyou frowned, suddenly having a bad feeling. “Don’t tell me he’s still causing problems from inside prison? Didn’t we already give our statements to the police? They took him into custody, didn’t they?”
“Yes, they did. But he’s the only heir of the Jiang family. They’re willing to throw everything they have to save him. They’ve hired multiple legal teams to take you to court.”
Lin Qingyou felt a surge of anger. “Fine, let them sue! Do they think their lawyers can turn black into white?”
She had both witnesses and physical evidence. How could she lose?
“That’s not what I meant…” Yin Hanyu hesitated, then said, “Qingyou, with so many lawyers involved, this case will gain a lot of public attention. When that happens…”
“When that happens, the fact that Jiang Zhuocheng attempted to rape me will become public knowledge. The whole city will be talking about it, right?”
“Oh, it’ll be worse than that. With the media exaggerating the story, ‘attempted rape’ will turn into ‘successful rape.’ Then, rumors will spread, one after another, until the whole world hears about it. In the end, people will mock me, humiliate me… They’ll even shame my father and the entire Lin family.”
Yin Hanyu didn’t deny it—because it was true.
Time and time again, real-world cases had proven that this was how society worked. Human nature could be disgusting and cruel.
“So, I want to propose another solution. I can—”
“I don’t want your other solution.”
Lin Qingyou interrupted him. She instantly understood what Yin Hanyu was suggesting.
Ming Yu was one of the top assassins.
And Yin Hanyu—his partner and teammate—what did that make him?
During those years when he had disappeared without a trace… what had he learned? What had he done?
She didn’t know. She knew nothing at all.
But she did know one thing:
If Yin Hanyu wanted to silently kill someone to avenge her, it would be incredibly easy.
But she didn’t want that.
She didn’t want Yin Hanyu to stain his hands with blood for her sake.
Because she knew he didn’t like that kind of life.
“Yin Hanyu, I know you want to protect my reputation—to keep me from being slandered, humiliated, and attacked by others.”
“But when I decided to call the police, it wasn’t a moment of impulse. When I made that choice, I was already prepared for the consequences.”
Xiao Xue had been listening to their conversation. By now, she had pieced everything together.
Furious, she rushed into the kitchen, grabbed a cleaver, and stormed toward the door.
She moved so fast that Lin Qingyou didn’t even have time to stop her.
“Little Aunt—!”
“Yin Hanyu, stop my aunt!”
“Little Aunt—” Yin Hanyu immediately blocked the door, preventing Xiao Xue from leaving.
“Get out of my way!” Xiao Xue’s beautiful eyes were filled with fury and killing intent. “Yin Hanyu, if you don’t move, I’ll cut you down first!”
“Little Aunt, please calm down…” Yin Hanyu said. “I came here tonight because I wanted to discuss the best solution with Qingyou.”
The truth was, he had really, really wanted to just kill Jiang Zhuocheng.
But Lin Qingyou had told him something the other day.
“Yin Hanyu, even though you haven’t agreed to marry me yet, we’re already in a relationship. So, there’s something very important I have to tell you.”
“Relationship?” Yin Hanyu had been momentarily stunned, but the corners of his lips curled up involuntarily.
“Yes! You’re my boyfriend now, and I’m your girlfriend.” Lin Qingyou said happily, blushing slightly. “After all, we’re getting married soon.”
Yin Hanyu asked, “What was that important thing you needed to tell me?”
“It’s very, very important.”
“I’m listening.”
“In the future, we have to trust each other. Whatever we do, we have to discuss it together. You absolutely cannot make decisions behind my back, even if you think it’s for my own good.”
He had agreed.
And that’s why he came to discuss it with her tonight.
If it were before, he probably would have already killed Jiang Zhuocheng.
“Little Aunt, can you put the knife down first?” Yin Hanyu tried to take the cleaver from her hands.
“No!” Xiao Xue roared in anger.
“Yin Hanyu, didn’t you say you would protect her? Is this how you protect her? What do you mean, ‘attempted rape’? How could you let something so horrifying happen to her right under your nose?”
Her emotions collapsed entirely. Tears streamed down her face as she sank to the ground.
Yin Hanyu lowered his head, silent, his deep eyes filled with guilt.
Xiao Xue was right—it was his fault. He had failed to protect her.
“Little Aunt…” Lin Qingyou hurried to help her up.
Xiao Xue, however, clung tightly to Lin Qingyou. “Qingyou, I’m sorry… This is my fault. I failed to protect you.”
“Little Aunt, don’t say that. I’m fine, really. Yin Hanyu arrived in time. I wasn’t hurt at all. In fact, I even slapped that bastard several times myself.”
But Xiao Xue still held her tightly. “Qingyou, I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have left you.”
“I won’t leave you ever again…”
“Little Aunt…” Lin Qingyou gently wiped away Xiao Xue’s tears. “Please don’t cry. You look the best when you smile. I love seeing you smile the most.”
“Alright… Then I’ll smile for you.” Xiao Xue forced a smile.
At the same time, she made a silent decision in her heart.
After a long time, Xiao Xue finally calmed down.
“My dear Qingyou, you must have been terrified, right?”
Lin Qingyou nodded.
Yes, she had been terrified.
That’s why she had screamed for help.
Fortunately, her savior had arrived.
And now… she wanted to save others, too.
