Chapter 30: The True Culprit Behind Lin Luoxi’s Misfortune is Lin Luodan
Seeing Lin Dayou’s hesitation to speak, Lin Wencheng couldn’t help but advocate for Lin Luoxi from her perspective.
“Yes, Dad, no matter how capable our sister is, she’s still only fifteen; we need to take good care of her,” Lin Linyin chimed in, supporting her sister.
“You two children, it’s not that I’m trying to say anything negative about your sister. I’m just feeling that as your father, I can’t give you the best life, and I have to let you take these risks. I truly feel guilty towards you both…” Lin Dayou’s heart ached seeing his daughter covered in blood. It would be a lie to say he wasn’t scared.
He feared that Lin Luoxi might be devoured by a wild beast in the mountains, and if that happened, he wouldn’t find peace for the rest of his life—dying would feel more merciful.
“Yes, kids, have you ever held any resentment towards us…” Over the past few days, it had been Lin Luoxi and Lin Wencheng holding the family together, bringing warmth to Lin Wang, yet her heart ached seeing the burdens they bore.
“Mom and Dad, what are you saying? You’ve raised us, and that’s the greatest blessing of all.”
“Look around; doesn’t every family go through hardships? It’s not about holding grudges. We’re a family; we should work together, and no hurdle is insurmountable. Now we’re poor, but who can guarantee we’ll always be poor?”
Lin Wencheng noticed the guilt etched on his father’s face, feeling the same kind of helplessness as if he knew Lin Luodan was the one who harmed his sister but felt unable to do anything about it.
“Mom and Dad, you might not know… I just found out today that Lin Luodan from Uncle’s family tricked my sister to the riverbank and pushed her in…” Lin Wencheng hesitated but decided to reveal the truth he had discovered.
“What? Wencheng, who told you this?” Lin Dayou’s hands trembled violently as a wave of anger and hatred for the Lin family surged within him.
“It was Second Sister who said it. We encountered Lin Luodan in the mountains today; that’s how my sister found out,” Lin Wencheng explained again, burning with a desire to go to the old Lin family and vent his anger.
“Dad, why are Lin Luodan and the rest of the old Lin family so cruel to us if they’re also part of the same family…” Lin Wencheng couldn’t comprehend their family’s situation. There were many biased elders in the village, but why did the elders of the Lin family treat them like they were sworn enemies that needed to be eliminated?
“Damn it, how dare they lay a hand on my child? I’ll make them pay!” Lin Dayou was already seething with rage. Especially after Lin Wencheng expressed such frustration, it ignited all the pent-up anger he had held back for decades.
His eyes turned red, and he looked around, grabbing an iron rod before heading toward the door.
“Dad, what are you planning to do?” Lin Wencheng had never seen his father this furious. Seeing him reach for a weapon frightened him, so he rushed over to hold his father’s waist, trying to stop him from taking any further action.
“Calm down, Dad. If you kill someone, you’ll end up in jail. Can you bear to see me and the kids being bullied outside?”
Lin Wang was also terrified by Lin Dayou’s intent to confront the old Lin family. She quickly moved in front of him with tears in her eyes, pleading desperately.
“Wencheng, your mother is right. Let’s think this through, we can’t just act recklessly. The old Lin family has bullied us for so long; I just can’t swallow this bitter pill anymore!”
Lin Dayou felt that simply cutting ties with the old Lin family wasn’t enough punishment for their cruelty.
“Dad, what can you achieve by going now?” At that moment, Lin Luoxi, who had been washing herself in her room, heard the commotion in the main hall. She hurriedly dried herself off, quickly got dressed, and rushed over to assess the situation.
“I want to go over and take them all down. This is simply intolerable!” Lin Dayou glared at Lin Luoxi, tears streaming down his face.
He questioned himself. He had never done anything wrong to the old Lin family, so why must they constantly step on him and bully him?
It was one thing when they only targeted him; now they even laid hands on his children. For what reason?
Didn’t Heaven promise that good people are rewarded? Why was he facing such distress instead?
“Dad, the incident has already passed for two days. And with no witnesses, if you go over there and cause a scene now, it will only give them something to hold against you…” Lin Luoxi noticed her father’s emotional turmoil and calmly advised him.
“Dad, Lin Luodan wanted to harm me; I’ll take care of this myself. What you need to focus on is taking care of your health and growing stronger so you can protect us…” Lin Luoxi had no intention of letting Lin Luodan off easily.
The blunt truth in Lin Luoxi’s words made it impossible for Lin Dayou to hold onto the iron rod any longer. He sighed heavily and dropped to the ground, defeated.
“Dad, there’s no need to feel so dejected. Our family has now severed ties with them, and our lives will only get better from here on out.”
“Alright, what we need to do now is take good care of San Di. Once he wakes up, our family will be living well, eating meat every day.” To keep her family from sinking into guilt and despair, Lin Luoxi decided to change the subject.
“Okay!” At that moment, Lin Luoxi’s words had a profound influence in the Lin family; whatever she arranged, they would follow.
Lin Dayou turned away, wiped the tears from his eyes, and got up to fetch the herbs Lin Luoxi had brought back.
Lin Wang wiped her tears away, stood up, and headed towards their room. Even though Lin Wentao was still unconscious, he needed some massage to prevent muscle atrophy.
Lin Loyin quietly approached Lin Luoxi’s side, leaning into whisper, “Sister, I’ll help you deal with the big bad guys in the future!”
When Lin Loyin said this, her pupils narrowed; Lin Luodan was their common enemy, and she definitely wouldn’t let him off easily!
“Okay, I’ll be waiting for my little sister’s retaliatory strike!” Lin Luoxi felt warm at Lin Loyin’s words and playfully agreed.
However, she didn’t take it too seriously, as three-year-olds often forget such things in a matter of days and can’t be relied upon.
“Little sister, let me tell you a secret! We caught several wild chickens when we went up the mountain today!” Lin Luoxi whispered back, mimicking Lin Loyin’s secretive tone.
“Really?” Lin Loyin’s eyes widened in disbelief, her expression full of shock.
“Absolutely! When have I ever lied to you?” Lin Luoxi found her reaction amusing, and the earlier gloom lifted instantly.
“Let’s go see!” She took Lin Loyin’s small hand and headed toward the backpack where they had stored the chickens.
“Big Brother, where are the wild chickens we caught on the mountain?” Lin Luoxi looked at the empty backpack, her heart racing in alarm. Please don’t tell me the old Lin family came by and took them!
