Chapter 33: Splitting the Dinner Table in Half with One Stroke
“Bang!” With a loud noise, the two wooden doors were forcefully kicked down by Lin Luoxi, and they fell to the ground.
The sound echoed, not only interrupting the cheerful laughter in the old Lin family’s main hall but also attracting the attention of neighbors nearby.
“Lin Jiyong, have you all had your hands and feet cut off? Instead of doing well, you just come to steal from my family every night!”
After hearing the sudden silence in the old Lin family’s house, Lin Luoxi tightened her grip on the kitchen knife as she walked towards the main hall, loudly scolding, unafraid of being overheard by the neighbors.
“Oh? Have you finally found a good time to feast? How’s the fish and meat?” Lin Luoxi moved quickly and didn’t give the old Lin family any chance to react before she burst into their main hall.
Inside, everyone from the old Lin family was neatly seated at a long table, looking out towards the door.
Even Lin Luodan and Lin Dawu, who had previously been absent, were present, with bowls of fish and meat in front of them that they hadn’t yet finished eating.
As soon as Lin Luoxi entered, her gaze fell upon the pot of fish soup at the center of the table, and her eyes instantly turned cold.
“You lowborn wretch, do you have any place here to speak? You have no upbringing at all, daring to run wild in my house.” The old matriarch of the Lin family looked at Lin Luoxi and spewed derogatory words at her with indignation.
Seeing Lin Luoxi covered in blood, a feeling of unease crept over her.
“Why are you here instead of staying at your own home, you insolent brat?” Lin Dawu also pointed at Lin Luoxi and scolded her, calling her all sorts of names.
As a self-proclaimed scholar, he hadn’t really interacted with the village since returning, so he naturally hadn’t heard about Lin Luoxi’s dangerous encounters in the mountains.
Seeing Lin Luoxi standing there blood-soaked, he treated her the same as always, disdainfully calling her an unworthy wretch.
Old Man Lin and Lin Daguang, witnessing the commotion that Lin Luoxi had caused, pretended to maintain an air of superiority, raising their chins in arrogance.
If one looked closely, they would see the cruelty and sense of superiority in their eyes.
Inwardly, they were somewhat pleased to see Lin Luoxi covered in blood. The impudent girl had been opposing them for days; if she got hurt or died, it would be the best outcome.
“Bah! No one wants a little wretch like you. Get out of my house!” Lin Dawu, having just heard that his sister was betrothed to Wang Guangrong, felt enraged that Lin Luoxi, who was supposed to be the family disgrace, dared to stand in their home, smiling mockingly at him.
This only fueled his anger further, leading him to curse at her vehemently.
Lin Luodan did not speak up to defend Lin Luoxi, nor did she stop her family from insulting her, merely sitting aside to watch the spectacle unfold.
The old matriarch, seeing Lin Luoxi’s expression, stood up in a fit of rage, grabbing the wooden stool beneath her to throw it at Lin Luoxi.
But Lin Luoxi’s reflexes were even faster. With a fierce glint in her eyes, she swung the kitchen knife with all her might towards the family of the old Lin house.
“Ah!”
“Ah!”
The Lin family members hadn’t expected Lin Luoxi to come at them for real, causing them to panic and leap up from the dining table.
Even the old matriarch, clutching her stool, raised it defensively in front of her.
The rest of the old Lin family reacted quickly, scrambling around in a chaotic attempt to escape, fearing that Lin Luoxi would turn her kitchen knife upon them.
In the midst of this chaos, Lin Dawu even shoved Lin Luodan towards Lin Luoxi, trying to use her as a shield against the knife.
Lin Luodan, pushed by Lin Wenwu, dared not resist, shooting a resentful glare at his back as she moved in the opposite direction to hide.
Old Man Lin and Lin Daguang were the fastest to flee, darting towards a corner and even covering their faces with their sleeves, as if that would make them invisible.
“Hmph!” Lin Luoxi couldn’t help but sneer at the cowardice of the old Lin family.
Striding forward, she picked up the kitchen knife that was stuck in the old Lin family’s dinner table.
With a powerful sweep, she overturned the long table. “Stealing fish from my family, this is your punishment…” Drenched in blood, her icy expression was truly terrifying.
The rice porridge, fish soup, and vegetable soup that hadn’t been eaten splashed all over the floor, while bowls and plates shattered into pieces.
Lin Luoxi, seemingly unsatisfied, stomped on the mess with her foot multiple times.
Seeing Old Man Lin glaring at her with a venomous look, Lin Luoxi pointed her finger directly at him without any hint of courtesy.
“The worst of the entire old Lin family are you two! Constantly scheming against Lin Dayou, day in and day out!” In her rage, Lin Luoxi dropped the pretense of calling him “Dad” and plainly addressed him by name.
“Crack!” Remembering how weak Lin Dayou was, an inexplicable anger flared up in her heart. Lin Luoxi swung the knife down on the old Lin family’s dining table.
The table was cleaved in two down the center by her forceful strike.
Lin Luoxi’s action completely stunned the old Lin family. They were all terrified, fearing that the kitchen knife would swing down upon them next.
Seeing them trembling in fear, Lin Luoxi slowly sheathed her knife.
“Help! Lin Luoxi is going to kill someone!” The old matriarch of the Lin family, having witnessed her family’s heirloom table split in half, couldn’t care less about her fear and began to wail on the ground.
“If I really wanted to kill your shameless people, would you still have the chance to talk back?” Initially hoping to instill fear, Lin Luoxi figured the old Lin family would be quiet for a while after her display.
However, just as she was about to turn and leave, the old matriarch’s wailing stopped her in her tracks.
With a cold smile tugging at her lips, Lin Luoxi stepped quickly over to the old matriarch.
Grabbing the old woman by her collar, she extended her slender fingers, prepared to unleash her pent-up frustration.
“Slap! Slap!” The sound of her slaps was startlingly clear and loud in the quiet night.
In fact, as they watched the old matriarch being slapped, none of the other old Lin family members dared to step forward to help, focused entirely on their own safety.
The old matriarch had never been hit like this before and tried to struggle and resist, but the strength in Lin Luoxi’s hands was too much for her. The frail, old woman who spent her days in the fields couldn’t break free and could only endure the slaps.
“Stop! Let go of my grandmother!” Lin Daguang, the cherished grandson of the old matriarch, finally found his voice when he saw her unable to fight back.
His stance was akin to a hero preparing to make a dramatic rescue.
“Hmph, just in time,” Lin Luoxi tossed the now-docile old matriarch aside and turned her attention towards Lin Wenwu.
