Chapter 36: Lin Luoxie Takes Charge, and Changes Will Come Soon
“Dad, I’m sure you’ll do as promise.” Actually, having the daughter take charge of the family isn’t so bad. At the very least, with her newly assumed role, there’s meat on the table already.
If it were up to him, they might not have meat to eat for an entire year.
“From now on, let Big Sister take charge of the house!” After tasting the meat, Lin Dayou couldn’t even be bothered to spit out the chicken bones.
After swallowing the chicken meat and bones together, he made this abrupt comment, leading everyone busy eating to stop and look at him in confusion.
“What I mean is, let Big Sister be in charge!” Lin Dayou felt their gazes on him and, feeling a little embarrassed, rubbed his thumb against the tip of his nose and repeated himself.
“Oh!” Everyone finally understood his point and responded uniformly with an “oh” before returning to their meals.
The atmosphere became a bit awkward, but Lin Dayou didn’t seem to notice; after saying that, he lowered his head and focused on his rice.
The chicken soup that Lin Luoxie made tonight was simply too delicious for him to stop eating. Even the coarse grains that he usually found hard to swallow now tasted great, and he ate until grease was dripping from his mouth.
If it weren’t for the fact that his bowl of coarse grains was almost empty, he might have considered swallowing the bowl itself.
“Uh, it was just too delicious, so I accidentally ate too much,” he said, noticing everyone looking at him; he quickly got up and left.
If he didn’t leave quickly, he wasn’t sure how to face his wife and children. As a grown man, it felt quite troubling to eat meat without sharing it with the kids.
Suddenly, he realized that the fish and chicken soups from the past couple of days had been extremely satisfying. Eating them made his stomach feel warm, and he didn’t experience the usual little aches and pains.
Most importantly, he discovered that his chronic leg pain had not flared up these past few days.
Considering Lin Luoxie’s medical skills, he attributed all these changes to her.
Once Lin Dayou left, the others finally snapped out of it, shared a relieved smile, and returned to their meals.
With only a little meat on a single wild chicken, three chickens just barely sufficed for the whole family. Since everyone hadn’t had meat in a long time, they were cautious, eating slowly to avoid upsetting their stomachs.
Half an hour later—
“Mom, you all wash up first; I’ll bring some chicken soup to feed Third Brother.” With food available, she couldn’t forget that there was still a younger brother at home.
Moreover, the chicken soup contained the spirit essence she had carefully mixed in, which had great healing properties for Lin Wentao’s injuries.
“Elder Sister, I want to go too! I want to see Third Brother!” Lin Luoning exclaimed, hurriedly following behind Lin Luoxie upon hearing her words.
“Okay, after I give Third Brother acupuncture, you can try talking to him. That way, he can recover faster,” Lin Luoxie said, nodding and giving her instructions.
“Really? I have so much I want to tell Third Brother!” Lin Luoning squealed with excitement at Lin Luoxie’s words.
She wanted to tell Lin Wentao that ever since Second Sister had returned, their family had undergone tremendous changes, and now they could eat meat.
With Second Sister around, they would definitely have more delicious food in the future.
Upon hearing Lin Luoxie’s words, Lin Wenqian’s eyes sparkled with a glimmer of hope as he hastened his movements to wash the dishes.
Lin Wang was even more excited; she stopped doing any chores and left everything to Lin Dayou and his son, practically skipping behind Lin Luoxie as they all headed to the room.
Since Lin Wentao still had a blood clot on his head, it wasn’t easy to feed him soup.
Lin Luoxie had come up with a great idea; during her trip up the mountain today, she had cut a section of bamboo, and now it would be just right for feeding him soup.
“Second Sister, your method is really great,” Lin Luoning praised as she watched the unique way of feeding.
“Of course! You should consider who your Second Sister is,” Lin Luoxie boasted confidently, pointing her chin at Lin Luoning, who looked up at her in awe.
“Hehe…” Lin Luoning felt invigorated by this lively and strong Second Sister; she really liked this side of her.
“Alright, let’s get serious now.” Seeing Lin Wang’s anxious expression, Lin Luoxie immediately focused on the task at hand.
Given the conditions, she could only use Lin Wang’s embroidery needle, disinfect it, and then begin acupuncture for Lin Wentao one point at a time.
An hour later, Lin Luoxie finally finished the acupuncture.
This time, administering the needles wasn’t as painful as the first time, likely because her body had been cleansed by the spirit essence, and she had just eaten a good meal.
“Mom, you can now talk to Third Brother; he can hear you,” she said.
“Talk to him a lot; it might stimulate him, and who knows, he might wake up soon,” she added, seeing that the others behind her were eager to speak to Lin Wentao. She quickly stepped aside.
“Really?” Lin Wang exclaimed, tears of joy streaming down her face upon hearing Lin Luoxie’s words.
Every child was like a piece of flesh from her body, and as their mother, she felt their pain deeply.
Thinking that Lin Wentao might remain in a comatose state for life, she was overcome with emotion, knowing now that her child might wake up.
“Child, my child, Third Son, can you hear your mother’s voice?” As soon as Lin Luoxie got up, Lin Wang rushed over to take her spot.
“Third Brother, Third Brother, can you wake up quickly…” Lin Luoning edged closer as well, calling out sweetly to Lin Wentao while watching her mother.
The atmosphere in the room grew emotional, and Lin Luoxie couldn’t stand it. She stepped back and walked out.
Even Lin Dayou, who had enjoyed his meal and was relaxing in the courtyard, couldn’t care less about his earlier embarrassment and followed everyone into the room to check on Lin Wentao.
Standing outside in the courtyard, Lin Luoxie observed how her family crowded around Lin Wentao’s bedside, their faces filled with warm smiles.
Having felt so exhausted in her past life—where she was constantly involved in creating poisons and guarding against those around her—she never expected the betrayal of her closest people.
The unexpected merging of her spirit with that of this era’s Lin Luoxie allowed her to experience the warmth of having a family, making her wish to live the rest of her life peacefully in the countryside.
“Second Sister, what are you thinking about?” Just as Lin Luoxie was lost in her thoughts, Lin Wenqian’s voice snapped her back to reality.
“Oh, nothing much. I was just thinking about how to prepare the medicine to help Third Brother wake up faster. After all, we’re all very worried about him,” she adjusted her emotions and used Lin Wentao as an excuse.
“Mm, with you around, Third Brother will wake up soon,” Lin Wenqian knew Lin Luoxie wasn’t being entirely honest, but he simply went along with what she said.
