Forced to Marry by Her Stepmother, the Lucky Koi Delicate Wife Brings Prosperity to the Whole Family Chapter 32

Chapter 32: The Vegetables in the Field Are Growing Wild

Master Meng resented Madam Zhou, believing she looked down on him. In this, he and Madam Meng shared the same opinion. Together, they made their way to the Zhou family’s field.

Zhao Zhou had just returned home with Feng Zhou. Over the past few days, the two had taken excellent care of the crops, resulting in a lush, vibrant green field.

Madam Meng stood with her hands on her hips, visibly displeased. “That little widow is quite capable of farming. I heard from the Chen family that their crops were ruined by pests, yet these are growing perfectly fine?!”

Master Meng was equally surprised. He crouched down, touched the vegetable leaves, and remarked, “These crops are growing really well—even better than ours!”

Madam Meng snorted coldly. “They just got lucky and bought a good piece of land.”

A scheming look flashed across Master Meng’s eyes. He pulled Madam Meng over to their carriage. “I bet the Chen family doesn’t know about this yet. If they find out that the land they just gave away is now yielding such a harvest, won’t they cause trouble for the Zhous?”

Madam Meng narrowed her sharp, mean-spirited eyes and said, “Let’s go tell those two from the Chen family right away.”

“Good idea. Let’s go now,” Master Meng agreed.

The two quickly climbed into the carriage and rushed to the Chen family’s house.

When Chen Tieniu and his wife, Jiang Shi, heard the news, they were stunned.

“Are you sure about this?” Jiang Shi asked sternly.

Master Meng and Madam Meng both nodded in confirmation.

Jiang Shi suddenly shot to her feet and scolded Chen Tieniu, “I told you not to return that land, but you insisted! Now look! We’ve just handed them a harvest on a silver platter!”

Chen Tieniu took a deep drag from his pipe, his face dark with frustration. It was clear he was fuming inside.

Seeing that their words had taken effect, Master Meng and Madam Meng left immediately.

The more Jiang Shi thought about it, the angrier she became. “Why should we just give this to them for free?! Chen Tieniu, I’m telling you, this isn’t over! I’m going to the field right now!”

This time, Chen Tieniu fully sided with his wife, completely forgetting that they had originally taken the Zhou family’s land by force after uprooting their crops.

“I’ll go with you!”

The two stormed toward the Zhou family’s field.

Upon arriving, they were utterly shocked. The lush, green crops were thriving, and in just another ten days or so, many of the vegetables would be ready for harvest—a truly bountiful yield!

Jiang Shi strode into the field, pointing at the flourishing crops as she shouted, “Chen Tieniu! Look at this! Just look at how well these crops are growing!”

Chen Tieniu was equally dumbfounded by the sight before him.

Jiang Shi glanced around, making sure no one was watching, then stepped into the field. She yanked a vegetable from the ground and crushed it under her foot. “Chen Yue’e, if we can’t have a good life, neither can you!”

Chen Tieniu strode forward and stopped her, demanding, “What do you think you’re doing?!”

Jiang Shi snorted coldly. “You’re a useless man! You deserve to be poor! They’re practically stepping all over you, and you don’t even realize it!”

With that, she shoved Chen Tieniu aside and continued yanking the vegetables from the ground. As she pulled, she muttered under her breath, “Hmph! Let’s see what you’ll eat now! Starve to death, you little widow!”

Chen Tieniu hesitated for a moment, then stopped trying to stop her and just stood there, watching blankly.

Jiang Shi became more aggressive, pulling with even greater force. She ran further into the field and uprooted all the tall seedlings. As she worked, she cursed, “Let’s see what you have left to eat! Starve to death, you wretched little wench!”

For farming families, the crops in their fields were their lifeline.

Jiang Shi’s actions were meant to ruin the Zhou family completely.

After her rampage, the entire vegetable garden and field were left in ruins—all by her hands alone.

She looked at the devastation with a triumphant expression and sneered, “Chen Yue’e, you filthy widow! Let’s see what you do now!”

Chen Tieniu finally couldn’t bear to watch any longer. “Enough! Let’s go home now!”

Jiang Shi wiped the sweat from her forehead and prepared to leave the field. “Alright, alright! Why are you rushing me like a death god?!”

However, just then, a black snake suddenly appeared at her feet.

The snake had a triangular head, a clear sign that it was highly venomous.

“Ah! A snake!” Jiang Shi shrieked in terror and bolted toward Chen Tieniu.

Chen Tieniu also panicked at the sight of the snake and turned to run in the opposite direction.

The snake slithered swiftly after them, lunging at Jiang Shi’s arm and sinking its fangs deep into her flesh.

“Ah! A snake! Help!” She collapsed onto the ground, flailing her arm and wailing in agony.

The venomous snake clamped down tightly, refusing to let go, as if determined to tear a chunk of flesh from her arm.

Chen Tieniu, frozen in fear, dared not step forward. He stumbled backward in terror, falling onto the ground and scrambling away.

When he finally looked up again, he was utterly dumbfounded by what he saw.

The vegetables that had been uprooted had all miraculously grown back—taller and lusher than before. Their leaves were broad, deep green, and full of life.

Even the rice plants in the field stood proudly, completely unharmed. In fact, they looked even more abundant than before.

“You wretched woman! Look!” Chen Tieniu shouted frantically at Jiang Shi.

Jiang Shi, still writhing in pain from the snake bite, whimpered, “Hurry, hurry! Help me!”

Chen Tieniu, trembling, rushed over and helped her up. He pointed ahead and shouted, “Look! Just look!”

Jiang Shi, gritting her teeth through the pain, squinted in the direction he pointed.

What she saw made her gasp and stumble backward in shock—the crops were standing tall and thriving as if nothing had happened.

“How… How is this possible? Everything is still perfectly fine?!” she stammered, her face drained of color.

Chen Tieniu could only shake his head, equally bewildered.

Jiang Shi’s expression twisted in horror. Suddenly, she let out a terrified shriek. “A ghost! This place is haunted!”

Without another word, she clutched her arm—where the snake was still latched on—and sprinted home in blind panic.

Chen Tieniu, equally terrified, scrambled after her, tripping and stumbling as he fled.
