Chapter 2: Just How Handsome Could He Be?
In elementary school, they were in the same class. The two families were close, and Su Tian was forced to walk to and from school with this troublesome neighbor boy every day. She was bullied so much that she cried almost daily – those years were truly her nightmare.
Her mother was strict, and her father was always very busy. She had no one to confide in. Fortunately, after a few years, the neighboring family moved abroad to settle there, and her life of oppression finally ended, welcoming a brighter future.
Still, that troublemaker’s parents were actually very kind to her. They often invited her over for meals, and especially the aunt’s sweet and sour pork was absolutely heavenly delicious.
Su Tian sighed, somewhat missing the taste of that sweet and sour pork.
When she got to school, she wasn’t late, but as soon as she entered the classroom, she heard everyone whispering, frightening her into thinking something was wrong with her.
Back at her seat, before she could ask, Zhou Ying started gossiping, “You’re finally here! Remember the transfer student I told you about this morning? He’s already at our school, in the academic affairs office. The class representative from next door went to grade test papers and saw him. She got so carried away that she tried to secretly take photos with her phone in the office, got caught on the spot, had her phone confiscated, and is still being scolded by the director.”
Su Tian clicked her tongue in amazement, “Just how handsome could he be, for someone to dare take out their phone in the academic affairs office?”
“He’s ridiculously handsome! Some blurry side profile photos are already circulating in the group chat. I just borrowed the PE representative’s phone to look. Want to see? I can borrow it again for you.”
The PE representative’s seat was almost diagonally across from theirs, and it couldn’t be farther than that. Besides, class was about to start. Su Tian shook her head, “Never mind, I’m not as boy-crazy as you. Besides, he’s going to be in our class anyway, so I’ll see him in person sooner or later.”
The first period was Chinese, but since all the teachers were grading papers now, including Teacher Gao, Chinese class was changed to self-study. Su Tian, as the class representative, was called to the academic affairs office to help teachers record grades.
Several girls who were close to Su Tian eagerly instructed her. “Remember to get a good look at the transfer student, I want a thousand-word essay describing his appearance when you come back!”
“Go for it, class rep! And check my test score while you’re at it!”
Su Tian agreed to everything and went to the academic affairs office with her notebook and pen.
The office was crowded with teachers and students, all recording grades and sorting papers. Su Tian glanced around – all familiar class representatives, no strangers, and definitely no one extraordinarily handsome.
Seems she wasn’t destined to meet this transfer student.
Su Tian stopped looking and forgot about the transfer student, joining the paper-sorting army instead.
The teachers handled the grade recording, while class representatives mainly sorted out their class’s papers from the graded pile. Su Tian spotted several familiar names and secretly noted down their scores. Unfortunately, after searching for an entire period, she couldn’t find any of her own test papers.
Out of the dozen or so papers from her class she saw, unsurprisingly, the scores were all low. No wonder Old Gao was so mad.
She wanted to find an excuse to peek at the grade sheet on Teacher Gao’s computer, but when she turned around, he wasn’t at his desk, and the computer was off.
“That kid from abroad, his grades are quite good.”
“Look at his past grades—they’re all excellent! He’s a real genius!”
“Ah, how did Teacher Gao snatch him up?”
..Two teachers were chatting.
Su Tian heard them talking about the transfer student and was surprised – were his grades really that good?
Such a top student was reportedly super handsome too?
Several students nearby also heard and started whispering to each other. “This is incredible, our school is getting such a legendary figure. I predict there’ll be a long line of girls peeking through the windows of Class 3 every day from now on.”
One of the class representatives who knew Su Tian nudged her, “Su Tian, let me teach you a money-making tip: lock your classroom windows and doors, close the curtains, and charge anyone who wants to see the transfer student. Ten yuan per minute – guaranteed to make you rich.”
“His face is worth more than ten yuan! I’d pay a hundred yuan to look at him for a minute, even a thousand yuan to touch him once!” another girl swooned.
Su Tian was astonished. “Just how handsome is he? I heard the Class 2 representative was so enchanted that she dared to take photos of him in the academic affairs office and got caught.”
“He’s devastatingly handsome, perfect from his hair down to his shoes! Handsome beyond words! Oh, I’m so jealous that you’ll be in the same class as him!”
Su Tian was about to say something else when the bell rang. The teachers, not wanting to delay their next class, clapped their hands and told them they could leave now.
So Su Tian packed up, no longer dwelling on it, and hurried back to class with her notebook to report the exam results to her classmates.
Their classroom was on the third floor. As soon as she reached the third-floor stairwell, she saw the corridor packed with people, mostly girls, with various perfumes and powder scents filling the air.
Su Tian guessed their transfer student must have arrived in class.
She looked around but didn’t see any blonde-haired, blue-eyed foreigner, which confused her. Then she entered the classroom under the envious gazes of the female students.
During the long break, the classroom was noisy. As soon as Su Tian reached the podium, several eager students asked her, “Su Tian! How did our class do?”
With the crowd outside the classroom, Su Tian felt awkward about telling the truth, so she coughed and handed over her notebook for them to pass around, “Barely passable, just getting by.”
Her seat was in the third row by the window. As Su Tian got closer, she noticed Zhou Ying wasn’t in her usual spot next to her. Instead, a male student sat there, wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, with a black baseball cap. He was looking down, the cap brim hiding his features, though she could see his beautifully curved jawline. He was leaning back in the chair, reading a test paper.
He looked like a parent attending a parent-teacher conference.
Su Tian wondered if Zhou Ying’s parents had been called, and she hesitated, unsure what to do next.
Suddenly, she realized everyone in class and even some outsiders were watching her.
The atmosphere was so strange that Su Tian froze, catching sight of Zhou Ying sitting in the last row, her expression both excited and complex as she stared at Su Tian, frantically mouthing words.
But Zhou Ying’s expression was so frenzied that Su Tian couldn’t understand a single word, so she shifted her gaze to her other classmates, “What’s…”
Before she could finish her question, the boy sitting in her deskmate’s spot suddenly lifted his head, looking at her with indifferent eyes, “Are you coming in?”
When she saw the boy’s face, Su Tian suddenly had an epiphany and understood what Zhou Ying had been trying to mouth.
Transfer student..
“But wasn’t the transfer student supposed to be a foreigner…”
Su Tian’s eyes widened as she accidentally spoke her thoughts aloud.
The transfer student seemed to be going through puberty, his voice somewhat husky, but devastatingly magnetic. Hearing her words, he let out a soft, humming sound.
This transfer student also had a face that matched his voice perfectly – phoenix eyes, double eyelids, a high nose bridge, thin lips, and a pointed chin, with skin that looked almost porcelain-perfect.
