Chapter 19: This Is Not For You.
Lu Yunting paced back and forth in the living room, furious about the news.
This woman was something else!
On one hand, she asked him to come back and handle the divorce, but on the other, she stood him up and went to the media to announce the termination of her contract with Lu Corporation!
She was playing him for a fool!
What was she trying to do?
Was she trying to completely break things off and never work with him again?
Or was there another purpose?
Lu Yunting stopped pacing abruptly.
Before, she used the contract renewal as leverage to get him to divorce her.
Now that she didn’t want to renew the contract, did that mean she didn’t want a divorce?
Lu Yunting pondered for a moment, becoming increasingly convinced that he was right. He snorted.
“She’s quite the schemer.”
He suddenly understood Su Yiren’s “little trick”:
She didn’t ask for any property when she signed the divorce agreement, and she must have regretted it.
But she had already spoken, so how could she have the face to go back on her word?
She could only use other means to make him voluntarily give her the property, so she kept hinting at it.
Heh…
Just for a moment of pride, she actually wanted to leave with nothing. What kind of fool would do such a thing?
Besides, Su Corporation had been losing money for years and was in dire need of funds. It was understandable that she wanted a share of the property.
But she actually used this method to “threaten” him, and he didn’t like it.
After figuring it out, Lu Yunting felt even more uncomfortable.
He immediately picked up his phone and called Su Yiren again.
Unexpectedly, she actually answered this time!
The phone rang a few times before being picked up.
Lu Yunting said bluntly:
“Su Yiren, how much property do you want from the divorce? Just say it. Don’t play games with me!”
The other side was silent for two seconds before replying slowly:
“She’s not here. If you have anything else to say, I can pass it on to her.”
“Who are you?” Lu Yunting stopped abruptly, a flash of Si Hong’s gentle and harmless face appearing in his mind. He felt very displeased.
“I’m her… assistant,” Si Hong leaned against the window in the corridor, looking at the sleeping face on the bed through the door, a smile playing on his lips.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up.”
“Wait!” Lu Yunting felt anxious, his tone laced with warning and command.
“Tell Su Yiren that she owes me an explanation for what happened today. Also, tell her to come back to the ancestral home as soon as possible.”
Si Hong had just put the phone on the bedside table when Su Yiren opened her eyes.
Her voice was soft, with a hint of hoarseness.
“Who were you talking to?”
“Lu Yunting.” Si Hong didn’t hide it. He pulled up a chair and sat in front of her, looking at her with a smile.
“You suddenly announced such big news. He didn’t rush over to strangle you, so he must be pretty calm.”
Su Yiren knew he was teasing her, so she smiled.
“What did he say?”
“He wants an explanation from you, and he wants you to go back to the ancestral home.”
“Explanation?” Su Yiren scoffed.
“I would love to explain to him, but he didn’t give me the chance. He blocked me directly.”
Si Hong was also a little puzzled by this. They weren’t even divorced yet. Was it necessary to block her on WeChat?
It was a bit childish.
“Then are you going back to the Lu family ancestral home?” he asked again.
Su Yiren remembered receiving a WeChat message from Lu Yunting’s mother earlier that day, asking if she could go home.
“I’ll go after I’m discharged,” she sighed. What had to come would come.
—
After being discharged from the hospital, Su Yiren arranged her work and then returned to Jiang City, going directly to the Lu family ancestral home.
Lu Yunting hadn’t come back yet when she arrived.
Su Yiren adjusted her mood and greeted them cheerfully, as she always did.
“Mom, I’m back.”
Jiang Jinyun immediately came out of the kitchen, deliberately putting on a stern face and scolding her.
“You little rascal, you had such a serious car accident and didn’t even tell the family! If your assistant hadn’t told me the truth, I would have thought you took over the company, became a big boss, and didn’t want to acknowledge me as your mother!”
Su Yiren knew she was pretending to be angry, so she hurried over to hug Jiang Jinyun’s arm and act cute.
“I was just afraid you would worry! Don’t be angry!”
“You all use being afraid I’ll worry as an excuse!” Jiang Jinyun poked Su Yiren’s forehead.
“Yunting is the same. His arm was so badly injured, and he didn’t say anything!”
Speaking of Lu Yunting’s injury, Su Yiren suddenly felt uncomfortable and said in a low voice:
“Mom, I’m sorry. He got hurt because of me.”
“That’s what he should do!” Jiang Jinyun said without a hint of sympathy.
“I know his temper better than anyone. He’s made you suffer so much over the years! This time, he finally protected you once. Consider it as making up for it! But after this injury, I actually find him more likable!”
Su Yiren chuckled awkwardly, but her heart felt heavy.
She felt like she must have done something great in her previous life to have such a good mother-in-law in this life.
Five years ago, she married into the Lu family alone, without any support, and didn’t even have a place to cry when she was wronged.
She was anxious at the time.
Lu Yunting didn’t like her and didn’t take her to the Lu family. He always left her alone in the villa.
Until one day, Jiang Jinyun personally called her and asked her to go back to the ancestral home with Lu Yunting. That was when she had the chance to meet the Lu family.
From that point on, even if Lu Yunting was cold and indifferent to her, her heart was still warm when she faced Jiang Jinyun and the rest of the Lu family.
Seeing Su Yiren looking down and silent, with a layer of melancholy between her brows, Jiang Jinyun changed the subject.
“By the way, I asked Aunt Liu to make West Lake Vinegar Fish, Dragon Well Shrimp, Crab Roe Soup Dumplings, all your favorites!”
Aunt Liu poked her head out of the kitchen and said with a smile:
“Young Madam! There’s also Dongpo Pork!”
Su Yiren’s heart relaxed, and she smiled.
“Thank you, Aunt Liu!”
Jiang Jinyun pulled Su Yiren to sit on the sofa and showed her her new nail polish.
Just as the two of them were whispering about whether white or pink daisies were prettier, Lu Yunting pushed the door open and walked in.
Su Yiren looked up at him, her lips pursed slightly. She wanted to say something but felt like nothing was right, so she lowered her eyes and pretended not to see him.
Lu Yunting’s anger flared up instantly, and he raised his voice.
“Don’t you see me coming in?”
Su Yiren was about to answer when Jiang Jinyun threw a pillow at him, asking back:
“Can you speak properly? Is it a big deal if you come in or not? Do we need to kneel and kowtow to welcome you?”
Lu Yunting’s gaze was fixed on Su Yiren. He didn’t expect his mother to suddenly throw a pillow. He didn’t dodge in time and was hit directly on the head.
“Mom! What are you doing?” He adjusted his hair in frustration and threw a bouquet of roses he was holding on the coffee table.
Jiang Jinyun immediately picked it up and examined it carefully, laughing.
“Oh! You’ve finally been hit with a bolt of lightning! You even know to buy flowers for your wife?” She handed it to Su Yiren.
“Take it!”
Su Yiren didn’t want to take it, but the other party had already stuffed it into her hand, so she had to reluctantly take it.
But Lu Yunting took two steps forward, snatched the bouquet back, and frowned.
“This is not for you.”
